He spoke about the standing meditation posture and how it helps to dissolve tension, promotes smooth uninterrupted energy flow and also helps to understand and develop the internal power. We need only four ounces of strength to topple a weight of one thousand pounds, according to a T'ai Chi saying. This can be accomplished by the 'pull and push effect', which only rotation can produce. Circle is the basic alphabet of T'ai Chi. It is perhaps the most symmetrical and hence the most interesting of all shapes. Any point on it can be considered as a beginning or an end. T'ai Chi regards the circle as the most potent way to exert force. Circles are all about learning the alignment, opening the joints and relaxing the muscles. They give an insight of how T'ai Chi functions as a martial art.

Circles contain long term health benefits and they teach the principles and concepts of yin and yang energy separation. As the Taoist masters put it, 'To separate the two energies is to unite them'. That is, one must not try to coordinate the upper parts of the body with the lower parts; treat them separately. When the upper body rotates, the lower body holds itself rock solid. If the right side of the body rotates, the left side remains stationary. In T'ai Chi, this is called de-synchronized synchronization. In the T'ai Chi symbol, the yin and the yang are opposing parts of the circle; yet they complement each other. The opposition - complementation brings about unity in the T'ai Chi circle. In practice, these two energies are represented by positive and negative circles which form the core of the whole 'Form'.

To perform the circle, we have to get our act together. The ability to differentiate between movement and rotation is the first among many steps. While the former is easy, the latter comes with much practice. To the untrained eye, movement and rotation look the same, whereas there is nothing remotely similar between them to the trained eye. The most effective point in a circle is the centre, which shouldn't get lost or broken; it remains undisturbed only when the body rotates and doesn't 'toss'. During ordinary movement, the centre can easily get lost. The rotation takes into account the foot-waist-hand coordination. If this is lacking, the circle comes off as a disjointed effort.

The circle also has a lateral spiritual dimension, which is manifested during physical interactions with an opponent. When an opponent tries to get the better of us, we lower our centre of gravity and look to sink beneath his centre. This allows us to break his root while retaining our own groundedness. It shows that true strength doesn't come from physical force but from the willingness to take a lower position and be humble. “Form” is an indispensable part of T'ai Chi. It is supposed to be the greatest teacher. It contains the ancient wisdom of China. It can be extremely effective at staving off chronic health problems and developing excellent self defense schemes. When we practice something like T'ai Chi, where the goal is shunning an aggressive mind and cultivating a calm yet alert mind, we find it easier to become who we really are. Then we can naturally gravitate towards humility and selflessness, two attributes that can help us become a deeply spiritual person.

He also performed some basic fighting applications of the movement of the “Form”.

Sensei Sandeep Desai has been a full-time teacher of the martial arts for over three decades. He currently teaches the Chinese martial art T'ai Chi, to students all over the country. He imparts training in the art of 'Meditation in Action' to students of the 5,000-year-old tradition, which is a unique blend of martial art principles, physical and emotional healing and spiritual practice. He has been authorized by world renowned grandmaster, Zhu Tian Cai, to teach the martial art in India. With his pedigree and intense involvement with T'ai Chi, he is the only one of his kind in the country to offer a window to the exotic and sublime art.

Sensei Desai's interest in the martial arts goes beyond the rigors of physical and mental conditioning and extends to the subtler, deeper levels. His journey began with karate in the 1970s, when he was in his teens. In his pursuit of perfection and purity in the martial arts, the Sensei has traveled to Japan, Germany and China to learn directly from grandmasters. His teachers were known not only for their exacting standards but were also part of a lineage - keepers of the highest traditions in their respective arts. In his own way, Sensei Desai has broken new ground. He is the first Indian to be authorized by Chinese Grandmaster Zhu Tian Cai to teach the original Chen Style T'ai Chi in India. He has also trained under Sen-sei Katherine Baxter, world champion in Okinawan Weaponry, and invited her and two Japanese teachers to impart training to Indian students. He has also won the silver medal in the First International Chen Style T'ai Chi Tournament at Singapore in December 2005. He also won the bronze medal in the First World Traditional Wushu Tournament in 2004 held at Zhengzhou city, China, under the 30-45 year category.

Sensei Desai is the author of 'The Small Book of T'ai Chi', and writes regularly for the popular 'Speaking Tree' column in The Times of India. He has featured on BBC World, Star Plus, Zoom, CNBC TV18, Zee TV, Doordarshan, Channel V & Times Now. The Mumbai-based Sensei has a vision of promoting the lesser known but immensely beneficial martial art among a wider mass of people. Using his strong foundation and years of rigorous practice in the art, the Sensei hopes, through his teaching, to bring more balance to a frenzied world. Eventually, he hopes to give the art the recall value it so richly deserves.

MR RADHAKRISHNAN PILLAI - “CHANAKYA'S SEVEN MAGIC MANTRAS”18thFEB

Chanakya, the greatest political thinker of all times, was born in Third Century BC. He was known by the following names - Vishnugupta, Kautilya and Chanakya. The eternal political principles of Chanakya are enshrined in his books Kautilya Arthashastra and Chanakya Niti. Arthashastra is a book of economics, management, state craft punishments and warfare. It is a book on “Total Management”, written in Sanskrit and contains 6000 sutras in 150 chapters. It covers the following topics economics, law, fundamentals of management, war, foreign policies and human psychology. Management is nothing but managing the minds of an individual and includes principles of management, management of education, accounting system, time management, leadership skills, contracts, selection of employees, consulting, strategic management and handling competition.

Chanakya's Seven Magic Mantras are:(1) Wealth is not only what is with you but also what is in you - our knowledge, experience and thinking. God has not made

everyone equal but everybody unique.(2) Be always active, without activity current and future prosperity are destroyed being involved in continuous activity

keeps our mind focused and sharp. (3) Invest to produce more try and save money, invest it, manage it well and the investment will grow(4) Chanakya on power Power is of four types (a) Intellectual Power (b) Money Power (c) Manpower (d) Power of

Enthusiasm which is said to be contagious and linked to the oratory skills of a person.(5) Attitude of a leader The objective of a king is to make his people happy. Similarly, customer is always the king

and it is important to make him happy.(6) Do your financial calculations All undertakings are dependent first on the treasury. Therefore, the leader should look

to the treasury first - how much wealth he has.(7) First spirituality then politics The king should first study philosophy and then he will be able to understand politics.

“Corporate Chanakya: Successful Management The Chanakya Way” by Radhakrishnan Pillai simplifies the age-old formula of success for leaders of the corporate world. Divided into 3 sections of Leadership, Management and Training Corporate Chanakya includes tips on various topics like organizing and conducting effective meetings, dealing with tricky situations, managing time, decision making and responsibilities and powers of a leader. Call it our guide for corporate success or a book that brings back ancient Indian management wisdom in a modern format. We cannot let go the Chanakya wisdom contained on each page. This book has been on the "best-seller" list since its launch in 2010 and used as a text book in various Business schools in India and abroad. The book has the unique distinction of being made into an audio book, a training film and translated into 10 regional languages.

“Chanakya Speaks” The Seven Pillars for Business Success is a film by Shemaroo Entertainment Ltd and directed by Mr Vasudevan Srinivasan. It is the world's first business management film based on Chanakya's teachings. To give back to the world, our long lost Indian culture, heritage and knowledge was the core belief which helped 'Chanakya Speaks” to take birth.

The story revolves around the quest of a young business executive trying to rediscover Chanakya's Teachings. Mentored by his quirky “boss”, he discovers Chanakya's Seven Pillars Construct (Model) and sets upon a journey to apply the learnings, for the growth of his organization and betterment of his own life. In this interesting journey he makes opportunity to meet face to face with some of India's most successful leaders in business and otherwise: Mr. Narayana Murthy; Dr. Santrupt Misra; Vinita Bali; Subroto Bagchi; Raamdeo Agrawal; D. Sivanandhan. He realizes, that Chanakyas teachings are still very relevant and pertinent in the current business context both in letter and spirit, helping him to set a new direction for himself and for his company. It is an interesting blend of fiction with fact of how real life people who have attained success in their businesses and careers and knowingly or unknowingly have practiced some of Chanakya's teachings in the contemporary context.

The Chanakya Institute of Public Leadership is a school of governance based on the management ideas espoused by the greatest political thinker of all times Chanakya. Based on the eternal political principles of Chanakya, it equips the students in the 'Art of Thinking' besides training them to apply modern technology and specialized management techniques in governance. Radhakrishnan Pillai from the University of Mumbai, Department of Philosophy is the founder-director of Chanakya Institute of Public leadership (CIPL) a research based organization that is working to promote Indian concepts in management. He has done an extensive research on "Kautilya's Arthashastra", the well known book on management written in 4th BC from Chinmaya International Foundation (CIF), Kerala under the guidance of Dr Gangadharan Nair, the dean of Adi Shankara Samskrit University. He later proceeded to do his MA in Sanskrit and a PhD. in the subject. He is a certified management consultant from the International Institute of Management consultants. He is the director at SPM Foundation and founder Director of Atma Darshan a spiritual tourism company.

Dr Gita Piramal elucidated with examples the “10 World Class Indian Innovations” in a PPT giving the Impact of each Innovation and the Critical Success Factors.

Supply Chain Kheda (Amul)Total Quality Management (TQN) - 2.6m outpatient visits. 315,000 ophthalmic procedures (Aravind Eye Hospital)Hot Spots - 1989: Knowledge Management Program Trinidad (Arcelor Mittal)Business Process Outsourcing - 1991: e-Serve (Citibank)Disruptive Innovation - 1996: Technology Savvy Customer Friendly Bank (ICICI Bank)Learnability - 2007: 1.3 million job applications. 1% accepted (Infosys)Value Chain - 2000: Bridging The Digital Divide (ITC)First Time Right - 1981: Democratizing Computer Literacy (NIIT)Calamity Management - June 1998 - 16 hour warning, Jamnagar (Reliance)Offshoring - 1985: first satellite dish arrives in India via bullock cart (Texas Instruments (India)

A Supply Chain is a system of organizations, people, technology, activities, information and resources involved in moving a product or service from supplier to customer. Supply chain activities transform natural resources, raw materials and components into a finished product that is delivered to the end customer. The term "supply chain management" was introduced by Keith Oliver in 1982.

Calamity Management involves project management skills, constant vigilance, speed, swift decision making, careful planning to quantify tasks accurately, saturation of resources, correctly setting the value of time, coordinating vertically, clarity of vision over the long term, empowerment of the workforce, and spotting the best talent for a particular project.

P.T.O.

Total Quality Management (TQM) is an integrative philosophy of management for continuously improving the quality of products and processes. The TQM concept was developed based on the teachings of American management consultants, including W. Edwards Deming, Joseph M. Juran, and Armand V. Feigenbaum. Total quality management is

defined as management philosophy and company practices that aim to harness the human and material resources of an organization in the most effective way to achieve the objectives of the organization.

A Hotspot is a site that offers Internet access over a wireless local area network through the use of a router connected to a link to an Internet service provider. Hotspots typically use Wi-Fi technology. Hotspots may be found in public establishments in many developed urban areas throughout the world. Public access wireless local area networks (LANs) were first proposed by Henrik Sjödin in August 1993. The term HotSpot may have first been advanced by Nokia about five years after Sjödin first proposed the concept.

Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) is a subset of outsourcing that involves the contracting of the operations and responsibilities of specific business functions (or processes) to a third-party service provider. BPO is typically categorized into back office outsourcing - which includes internal business functions such as human resources or finance and accounting, and front office outsourcing - which includes customer-related services such as contact centre services.

A Disruptive Innovation is an innovation that helps create a new market and value network, and eventually goes on to disrupt an existing market and value network (over a few years or decades), displacing an earlier technology. The term is used in business and technology literature to describe innovations that improve a product or service in ways that the market does not expect, typically first by designing for a different set of consumers in the new market and later by lowering prices in the existing market. The term disruptive innovation was coined by Clayton M. Christensen and introduced in 1995.

Learnability is to gain knowledge, comprehension, or mastery of through experience or study.

A Value Chain is a chain of activities that a firm operating in a specific industry performs in order to deliver a valuable product or service for the market. The concept was popularized by Michael Porter in 1985.

Do It Right The First Time (DRIFT) is a theory from managerial accounting that relates to just-in-time (JIT) inventory (where a company only receives goods as they are needed to cut down on inventory costs) and production management. The idea behind DRIFT is that management wants all of the processes that make up the JIT philosophy to be done correctly and efficiently so

there are no delays in the production process.

World on the brink of ending polio, needs resolve, says Independent Monitoring Board.Rotary International and the other

spearheading partners of the Global Polio Eradication Initiative have received a letter from the Independent Monitoring Board

(IMB), reporting on the effort's progress as of the end of 2012. The IMB, which met by teleconference on 18 January,

independently verifies progress toward the achievement of a polio-free world.

Rotary Foundation Trustee Chair Wilfrid J. Wilkinson received the letter sent to Rotary. Identical to the letter to the World

Health Organization that appears on the global initiative's website, it states that "The world is on the brink of eradicating polio.

This goal absolutely must be seen through to completion.” Noting that the global initiative has performed well but citing

challenges that remain, the IMB concludes that, "If the right things are done and commitment remains high," polio eradication

will happen.

“Rotary appreciates the IMB's assessment of both the strong progress that has been made and the further improvement that is

needed in the global effort to eradicate polio," says Wilkinson. "Rotarians have worked tirelessly to help bring the world to the

tipping point in the fight against the disease. We are energized by the marked reduction of polio cases and are committed to

finishing the job."

Offshoring - is a type of outsourcing. Offshoring simply means having the outsourced business functions done in another country. Frequently, work is offshored in order to reduce labor expenses, to enter new markets, to tap talent currently unavailable domestically or to overcome regulations that prevent specific activities domestically.
