Justification for CAT in the banking
sector
• BANKSETA SSP reports that the sector
spent an average of R 5 333 training spend
per person for the year
• Banks spend 4-5% of their payroll on
training and most banks having training
centres that rival universities
Justification for CAT in the banking sector
• Training provided by the banks =
compliance, customer interface,
management and leadership skills, specialist
financial skills , information technology, and
back office process and support skills
• Much of the internal training delivered by
the employers is not unit standard aligned
(although most of the banks are BANKSETA
accredited providers – so they do have the
disciplines of formal provision in place)
• Step 1: align internal bank training to
registered unit standards
• Step 2: nominations plus internal
training record
• Step 3: award exemptions as long as
full qualification completed
