DAVID NEWS October 3, 2018 EARLY RELEASE DAY - FRIDAY, OCTOBER 5TH Friday, October 5th, will be an early release day for all CISD students. The school day will begin at 8:05 a.m. and end at 12:10 p.m. Normal bus routes will run begin- ning at 12:10 p.m. If possible, students are encouraged to bring a sack lunch that day due to time constraints. However, a full menu will be available for purchase. Lunch times will be as follows: K 10:55 1st 11:00 2nd 11:05 3rd 11:10 4th 11:15 We request that parents not join their child for lunch on this day because all students will be eat- ing in their classrooms. YEARBOOK COVER DESIGN WINNER Congratulations to Paige Worley, the winner of this year’s yearbook cover design contest! Paige is a fourth grade student in Mrs. Belanger’s class. Paige’s art- work will be featured on the 2018-2019 David Yearbook, which is available for pre-order now. She will also re- ceive a free yearbook. We also held a random drawing from all other entries and Gabrielle Larochelle from Mrs. Smith’s fourth grade class was our winner. Gabrielle will also receive a free yearbook. Congratulations, Paige and Gabrielle! COATS FOR KIDS DRIVE The Conroe ISD Police Department is pleased to present the annual Coats for Kids Drive for the children of CISD who are in need of (new or gently used and clean) jack- ets, hoodies, sweaters and coats. A bin will be located in the front office for donations. Now is a great time to clean out those closets! The deadline is Monday, Octo- ber 15th. RED RIBBON WEEK - OCTOBER 22ND - 26TH During the week of October 22nd - 26th, we will join with schools across the nation to celebrate “Red Ribbon Week”. There will be a theme each day and we encour- age students and staff to dress for the theme to help teach the message that will be taught. Please note that on Friday, October 26th, we will hold our Storybook Pa- rade at 8:15 a.m. Students will dress as a character that they admire from a children’s book. Start now by en- couraging your child to choose a book, read it, and start working on a costume appropriate for the parade. Chil- dren will wear their costume and carry the book during the parade. Please remember no scary costumes, play weapons, or face masks. Parents are invited to view the parade in the cafeteria. DYNAMITE DOLPHINS Having good character builds confidence in our chil-dren and allows them to shine in all areas. Each month, our school will talk and learn about why it is beneficial to have good character. At the end of the month, one student from each class will be selected for demon-strating that month’s character trait. LIBRARY NEWS Our fall Book Fair is coming soon! The students will be coming to the Book Fair preview next week to make their wish lists. Book Fair sales will be Oct. 15th - 18th, with Family Night on Oct. 16th. THE FOUR STAR PROJECT - YARN NEEDED Students from The Woodlands High School are par-ticipating in a yarn drive for The Four Star Project. This project will consist of collecting soft or baby blanket yarn, which will be used to knit hats to do-nate to the children’s wing of MD Anderson and oth-er hospitals in our local area. If you would like to donate soft yarn (any pattern or color), please send in with your child or drop off in the front office at David Elementary by October 30, 2018. For more information, please see the at-tached flyer.

BOX TOPS Our fall Box Tops collection for the 2018-2019 year is underway. Participation is easy. Simply clip the Box Tops from participating products, place them in a Ziploc bag or envelope (labeled with your child’s teacher’s name and grade), and have your student drop them in the collection bin located near the front office. One class per grade level will earn a prize for collecting the most Box Tops during each collection period (fall, winter and spring), so start clipping! 16th AnnualConroe ISD PoliceCOATS for KIDS DRIVE The Conroe ISD Police Department is pleased to present the 16th Annual Coats for Kids Drive for the children of Conroe ISD. On October 1st, all schools able to help collect coats/jackets will place a collection bin at or near the front office of the school. Last year several schools utilized the talents of students in art, student council, or other student organizations to design and decorate collection boxes. Items will be collected through October 15th. On October 16th, collected items will be picked up, cleaned, and sorted. The collected coats, jackets, and hoodies will be distributed to campuses in need. If bins become full during the collection process, campuses should e-mail or call Sgt. Julie M. Thompson at (936) 709-8921 or [email protected] for pick-up to make room in the bins for additional donations. If your campus wishes to participate in receiving coats/jackets for students at your campus, please e-mail Sgt. Julie M. Thompson by October 16th.
