Nurse News:
Parents/Guardians,
Mylan Pharmaceuticals has issued a voluntary recall for certain lots
of EpiPen/EpiPen, Jr. (generic epinephrine auto-injectors are NOT
INCLUDED). I have called all of the parents of students who are
affected by this at Deretchin. If you have other children in CISD,
please check their EpiPens, as well as, your EpiPens at home. As
recommended in the FDA announcement, CISD WILL continue
to use the recalled lots until you are able to bring a replacement.
See the links below for full information.
Be sure to check all of the Epipens you have at home.

WHAT WE ARE DOING IN MRS. PARRA’s P.E CLASS
FITNESSGRAM is a health-related fitness assessment tool that provides a snapshot of
each child's health in grades 3-6. The assessment covers each component of health-
related fitness: aerobic capacity (PACER test), body composition (height, weight),
muscular strength (push-ups, curl-ups), muscular endurance (PACER test, push-ups,
curl-ups) and flexibility (trunk lift, shoulder stretch). Students in Kindergarten-Sixth
grade are learning about the Olympics and competing in Olympic type activities:
torch relay, footrace, long jump, discus throw, hurdles, javelin throw, fencing and
more!
WHAT'S COMING UP IN MRS. PARRA’s P.E. CLASS?
Summer is right around the corner! The students will be learning about water and
sun safety.
Taking good care of our bodies is important! Students will be participating in
games/activities that relate to personal hygiene and the body.
Orchestra Info:
4th grade: Join us for an informational meeting about the band and orchestra
programs at Deretchin on April 12th from 5:30-6:00. We will be discussing the
different instruments, how to obtain all necessary supplies, and the structure of our
programs. After the meeting, Mr. Dillard (orchestra) and Mr. Plummer (band) will be
available to size/fit students on instruments. All elective choice sheets are due on
Thursday, April 13th.
5th Grade Orchestra: Students are learning how to play in the key of C Major. They
are also learning string orchestra music in preparation for the spring concert on May
23rd. Reminder: Practice reports are due each week on Monday, signed by a parent.
Students will be tested each Monday on the previous week's objective as listed on the
practice report.
6th Grade Orchestra: Students are writing their own composition for the
composition contest. Students should complete at least eight measures of their music
per week, finishing with at least 24 measures by May 1st. The student(s) with the best
composition will have the opportunity to perform their composition at our spring
concert on May 23rd.
Our Character Trait for the month of April is "Perseverance". Perseverance is the
ability and self control that pushes you to work through challenges. Parents should
talk to their children and tell them about a time in your life that you’ve showed
perseverance.
When we persevere we shown persistence and tenacity. We sustain the effort
needed to complete a task, even if it's hard. "Many of life's failures are people who
did not realize how close they were to success when they gave up". - Thomas
Edison

In lunch bunch we are continuing to talk about coping skills. It's important for
our mental and physical health to take care of ourselves, using healthy coping
skills, when we are facing a problem we can't control.
Deretchin Elementary would like to congratulate and wish "good luck" to our two teams
that will be competing in the UIL competition this week:
Team Brengel/Edmond: Team Athreya/Baja:
Jessica Bird Shreyas Athreya
Zachary Brengel Ariana Baja

Isabella Costeira Neel Kura
Nikita D'Sousa Akshay Marupudi

the title of the absence. When reporting an
