UPGRADE TO WRSS CRICKET PITCH Souths Junior Cricket Club is a not for profit organisation, run by volunteers, which provides junior cricket programs for boys and girls aged 5 to 17 years in Brisbane’s southern suburbs. The club has used the Watson Road SS cricket pitch for many years and we have been extremely happy to be able to support an organisation that is so Community focused. Recently, the President of the club (Mr Brett Gillespie) approached the school offering to remove the current concrete cricket pitch and install two new concrete pitches of the same size. This came at a cost of $28,000 which was paid for by Souths through a successful grant application. I would like to take this opportunity to thank the Souths Junior Cricket Club executive for all their hard work and in particular for the impressive upgrade to the school oval. It will be greatly beneficial to our students. Reading Strategy for the Fortnight

Activating prior knowledge is when you think about all the things you already know about a topic. This can include what you have experienced personally and what you have read about, seen on TV or at the movies, etc. Thinking about what you

already know is useful

because it gives you a

base to build new

knowledge and helps you

to make connections with

the text.

AWESOME JOB!!

Remembrance Day in Australia Remembrance Day in Australia is dedicated to Australians who died as a result of war, particularly from World War I onwards. A minute of silence is dedicated to the deceased, especially for soldiers who died fighting to protect the nation. Remembrance Day is annually observed on November 11 although it is not a public holiday.

What Do People Do?

Many Australians stop what they are doing at exactly 11am in their local times on November 11 each year to dedicate a minute of silence for those who died in war, especially soldiers from as far back as World War I. Those who join in this act of remembrance include teachers, students, politicians, and workers of public and private sector enterprises.

Many people wear artificial poppies on the day and key political figures make speeches in remembrance of the nation’s fallen heroes. Services are held at 11am at war memorials in suburbs and towns across the country, at which the “Last Post” is played by a bugler and a one-minute silence is observed.

This month is an important one for men all around the world. Movember is a movement where men unite to raise funds

and awareness around men’s cancer, as well as the issues that society has with men sharing feeling and thoughts on

their depression. Movember aims to lower the rate of male suicide by 25%

by the year 2030 as the current rates are far too high to be okay.

If you feel like supporting us please share our message and make others

aware that its okay to see a doctor about your health and depression if you

are a man.

If you feel like donating to the Movember Cause, we have joined a

movember team found at https://moteam.co/milton-whiskers

Thanks for anything you can do.

What head Lice look like

Ways to Treat Headlice

Conditioner & Comb Treatment Simply coat dry hair with normal white conditioner. Detangle hair with a comb or brush if needed to prevent tears, then leave conditioner on for five minutes. Taking a fine tooth comb, comb through hair in sections, rinsing comb in very hot water in between combing. Continue until all traces of head lice appear to have been removed. Rinse hair and sterilise comb using extremely hot water. Repeat one week later to remove any newly hatched head lice.

Dry combing the lice out A fine tooth comb through dry hair can also be effective in removing head lice. It works in much the same way as the conditioner and comb method, by sectioning off hair and removing the lice and eggs with the comb.

Tea Tree Oil Spray Fill a spray bottle with water and one teaspoon of Tea tree oil and use as a daily spray in hair. This is also a great detangling method for girls with long or curly hair and appears to deter head lice, used as a preventative measure. Heat Using a hair dryer to dehydrate head lice and their eggs can be effective, however this method works best on eggs rather than live lice so may be better utilised following other methods.

Over The Counter Head Lice Treatment There are plenty of over the counter treatments with varying types of chemicals and natural ingredients designed to kill head lice. Generally these also involve the use of a comb to remove lice after treatment is applied.
