Hello! My name is Camryn Norton, your 2020 4-H Summer Intern! I will be a junior this fall at the University of Iowa where I am studying Environmental Engineer-ing. I was a member of the Lake Prairie 4-H club and Pella FFA where I showed horses, poultry, and exhibits in Dyer-Hudson. I know the fair will look different this year, but I am excited to see what this summer will bring. I am looking forward to working with you all!

All project meetings will be held at the Marion County Fairgrounds @ 6:30 PM
Join the horse project meeting REMIND Text @eack3a to 81010 for the most up-to-date information and weather cancellations.
Lessons will be held on Mondays through July (last class to be determined) at the Marion County Fairgrounds from 7-8 PM. Meetings will be behind the livestock barns, in the camping area. Equipment needed for obedience: Choke chain (2” larger than circumference of dog’s neck) 6-8’ nylon or leather leash (no livestock leads/ropes) Quick-release collar (has snap buckle) Exhibitors are required to attend at least 4 of the 6 meetings in order to show at the County Fair. 4-H’ers please, do not wear flip flops.
All project meetings will be held Mondays at the Marion County Fairgrounds @ 7:00 PM
Pre-Fair Horse Show Sunday, June 21 at the Marion Co. Fairgrounds Registration begins at 8:00 AM, classes begin at 9:00 AM. No Open or Jackpot classes No concessions Please practice social distancing and limit the number of spectators present.

County Fair Animal Entries
Exhibitors who ID’d animals by June 1st will be receiving an entry form in the mail. It needs to be completed and returned to Extension Office by July 1.
State Fair Entries
Animals: Any animal to be shown at the State Fair had to be ID’d in 4honline by June 1. The next step will be to complete an entry in 4honline. This can be done by logging in to 4honline, going to your member list, selecting a member from the drop down menu in the grey “register a member…” box, and choosing the State Fair for the event. Online registration opens June 1 and closes July 1. Horticulture: If you are enrolled in the 4-H Horticulture project area and are interested in exhibiting vegetables at the Iowa State Fair this year, you will need to register in 4honline as described above. The deadline is July 1. Watch for more timely email updates to 4-H Horticul-ture members through 4honline and on the Horticulture webpage. This page includes the up-to-date rules and a complete list of classes for the 2020 Iowa State Fair 4-H Horticulture Show. Please call the Extension Office before July 1 if you have questions.

Come and explore the wonders of science by creating amazing chemistry experiments with

2020 Marion County Photo Contest—Enter Today!
The 2020 Marion County Photo Contest entries are underway. We want to celebrate the best scenes, events, businesses, and wildlife throughout Marion County. The top three photos from each of the four categories will be awarded a ribbon and certificate and will be placed in the running for the Best of Show photo. Eligibility: The contest is open to amateur photographers only. Each person may submit up to 12 photos, but is limited to 3 photos per category. All photographs must be taken in Marion County. Deadline is July 31, 2020. Categories:
Seasonal Scenes: Scenes depicting areas of Marion County throughout all the seasons of the year. Examples include: barns, bridges, trails, trees,
flowers, towns, weather, bodies of water, etc. Livestock and Wildlife: Photo’s of livestock and wildlife within Marion County. Livestock includes any domesticated animal that is not a pet (no
dogs or cats or house pets unless they are working dogs in action with livestock or wildlife). Only photo’s of live animals will be accepted. Celebrating Marion County: People at different events, festivals, and local businesses in Marion County. No selfies, we want the photographer to capture photo’s as an observer. Examples: Tulip Time,
Coal Miners, County Fair, Red Rock Balloon Festival, etc. People in Action: People participating in recreational activities and work in Marion County. Ex: Youth
Sports, fishing, camping, etc.

Record Keeping
It is not too early to start record keeping. If you weighed-in beef or if you have started an exhibit for Dyer-
Hudson it would be a good idea to start record keeping. It is easier to do it as you go
rather than trying to remember everything four months from now.
The updated Marion County Record Keeping Guidelines and Awards Guidelines came out in April. Please
be aware they did not change from last year. However please remember that in
order to receive any awards members must turn in a complete Record Book for the year applying for.
