PLANNING FOR 2014
Planning for 2014 is well underway and projections show
that if our enrolments remain stable or increase in 2014,
we may be in a position to employ more teachers and
modify our classroom structure. We currently have five
Preps participating in the Little Learner’s Program who will
begin at our school next year and six Grade Sixes who will
leave for secondary school at the end of this year.
It is important the school has an accurate indication as to
student numbers in each grade level to make decisions on
classroom structures. To assist with our planning, I ask that
families please notify me if they are not intending to send
their child to Goornong PS in 2014.
I anticipate being able to make announcements regarding
teachers and classroom structures soon.
HATS
We still have some students who do not have hats at
school. Our instructions to the students is to keep their hats
in their bag-locker when not being worn during playtime or
lunchtime. I ask that parents please ensure that their child
has a navy blue wide-brimmed hat to wear at school. Please
also ensure that your child’s hat is clearly named so it can
be returned if it is misplaced. Hats are available from
Fashion Plus in Bendigo, they are also at the school for $10.
Students who do not have an appropriate hat will be asked
to play in the shade of the school veranda at playtime and
lunchtime.
Principal’s Report SCHOOL DROP-OFF
A reminder to parents that school drop-off is from
8.30am onwards. The school is unable to provide
adequate supervision of students who arrive prior to
8.30am.
GRADE SIX GRADUATION
We will again be producing a short Grade Six
Graduation Movie. To help with this, can Grade Six
students please bring to school any school photos
that they have (eg. from in Prep, Grade 1, etc) that
we can scan and use in the movie.
Quote of the Week
“We are shaped by our thoughts; we become
what we think. When the mind is pure, joy
follows like a shadow that never leaves.”

GARDEN SCIENCE PROGRAM The Grade 3/4 students finished off their garden by mulching (thank you to the Donnelly family for donating the bales of pea straw) and thoroughly watering in the plants. Grade 5/6 students cleaned out the old crops from the vegie garden and managed to make $12 selling the last of the vegies. The garden beds are ready to be dug over, soil fertilised, mulched and planted up with summer crops such as pumpkin, zucchini and tomatoes. Any donations of these plants or assistance in revitalising the garden beds welcome. The P/1/2 grade made posters depicting the butterfly life cycle. These will be displayed in the project area.
I would love to get rid of the healthy crop of marshmallow weeds between the vegie beds and place compressed gravel down. If you can help with this project with labour or material or alternative ideas, please contact me or Jason Cox.
