Stirling Council have asked me to advise on school improve- ment across the joint ser- vice from the start of next ses- sion. I have agreed to the re- quest. This will involve a sub- stantial but flexible time com- mitment from August 2015 - April 2016 when I intend to retire from Dunblane HS. Mrs Margo Wilkinson will be 'acting' HT when I am not in school. To facilitate this ar- rangement Stirling Council have appointed Mr Graham Boyce as an additional Temporary De- pute Head from August 2015 - April 2016. Accordingly Mr Boyce will continue in his cur- rent role as Depute Head Teach- er (Pupil Support) when Mrs Hook returns to her DHT post from sick leave in August. FP LENNON , HEAD TEACHER The SQA ceased to operate an 'Appeals' service for candidates in August 2013. This means that for all SQA candidates, what they achieve on the day of the examination will remain their mark. However since last year, a new ‘Post Results’ Service has operated. This service is availa- ble after candidates have re- ceived their certificates. If a school is concerned by a candi- date’s result, a Clerical Check and/or a Marking Review of the candidate’s exam answer paper may be requested. If this check/review of the script sug- gests a change, the grade may go up or down. No review will be requested by DHS without parental consent. No considera- tion of ‘alternative evidence’ is with this service. Details of the criteria for either a Clerical Check or Marking Review can be found on the school website (Homepage/SQA/SQA News). This is based on both SQA & Local Authority Guide- lines. This is to ensure that the Post Results Service is robust, fair and equitable for all pupils across all schools. Preparations are nearly complete for the programme of activities focusing on Education for Life and Work (EfLW) next session. The survey to identify the skills that we as community value as part of students’ education will close on Monday 22nd June. So far we have had over 200 re- sponses from all stakeholders in our community. We would like to thank all who have shared their views on this essential as- pect of the school’s life. A re- port on the survey will be pub- lished in the new session. The 2015-16 S5/6 lessons on EfLW will cover areas such as search- ing, applying and having a job. We have had input from em- ployers in shaping our pro- gramme with students seeing and hearing what employers actually want. We would like to thank Tom Casey Discover Dunblane), Rachael Govan (Stirling Council), Sarah MacFadyen (Robertson Homes) and Stuart Riddle (The Riverside) for the Em- ployer Perspective talks they gave to the S6 conference. They were both inspirational and in- formative. We continue to de- velop strong links with the em- ployer community of Dunblane & Stirling to make further signif- icant contributions to the devel- opment of our young people. There is now a dedicated ‘Twitter’ feed, @DHSOpps, and there will also be an ‘Career Building Club’ every Thursday next session where students will be able to explore how to ‘build a career’. Congratulations to our new S6 Council for next session will be : Head Boy: Sean Huggett Head Girl: Sophie Reid-Kay Depute Head Boys: Harry Cox and Euan Lambert; Depute Head Girls: Erin Ken- nedy and Lara Ross. A huge thank you to everyone who supported the sell-out per- formances of our 2015 school show ‘West Side Story’. The standards achieved in last week’s performances were truly out- standing and eloquently speak of the levels of expertise, commit- ment and effort of over 120 of our young people their parents and families and our wonderful staff production team led by Mrs Gunning and Mr Cooper. Dunblane High School’s Sports Day last Monday Periods 1—5 was an other very successful event. Our pupils are to be congrat-ulated for their exemplary behaviour throughout the morning’s events. Thanks to the PS staff and their team of staff and pupil helpers (many of whom arrived in school at 07.15 to help with the set up). Thanks also to Mrs Imrie DHT who co-ordinated the whole event. The ‘Champions’ results for each year group were as follows:

S1 Boys 1st Fraser Sheriff 2nd Oliver Stewart 3rd Connor McLugash S2 Boys 1st Cameron Murray 2nd Declan McLugash 3rd Kyle Middleton S3 Boys 1st Rory Price 2nd Glen Cartner 3rd Andrew Stuart Senior Boys 1st Jamie Paterson 2nd Ben Campbell-Roddis 3rd Jack Houghton

The Anthony Nolan Trust is a pioneering charity that saves the lives of people with blood cancer. Following their input at our Tri-School S6 Con-ference, the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) this week attended DHS to encourage potential bone marrow donors aged 18-30 to register: basically that meant S6 and a (small!) number of staff. The organisation was done entirely by the Anthony Nolan Trust ‘Champions’ in our new S6 - Rebecca Raw, Sean Huggett, Lara Ross, Erin Kennedy , Euan Lam-bert, James Gibson, Emma Devonshire, Hannah Brown, Lauren Ran-kin, Elle McCann, Louise Perry, Karla Grant, Nicola McDonald and Karys Rutherford. "Becoming a Champion for the Anthony Nolan group has been an extremely rewarding experience; helping to add more and more people to the potential donors list to help those in need is greatly fulfilling." - James Gibson, S6; "Amazing experience and beneficial for people in need." - Nicola McDonald S6. "Great to be a part of something so rewarding and beneficial."- Lauren Rankin, S6. There was a fantastic response from staff and S6 with 58 registering with the Anthony Nolan Trust. Paul Elliot of the Trust said “That was a fantastic turn out for the SFRS and Anthony Nolan Clinic. The young people from S6 were brilliant. Also the Champions were exceptional. Congratulations on having such fine students.”

Anna Steen our departing Head Girl, was guest speaker at the local Rotary Club recently when she shared her experiences on the recent Rotary Euroscola congregation in Strasbourg last March. Anna started her presentation with a big thanks to Rotary for the opportunity to go to the European Parlia-ment and take part in the event. Anna reflected on the 05.00 start at the airport on the first day, meeting for the first time the other 24 young Scots attending and beginning to make friends through some sight-seeing to being almost too tired to take dinner in the evening. The following five days were packed with activities such as carrying out a survey in French, in Strasbourg square. Anna noted that she was impressed how her confidence in her French speaking improved when she was in a situation where French had to be used. The sur-vey highlighted how narrow each country’s knowledge of oth-er countries in Europe actually is, with many being unable to name 3 towns / cities in Scotland, few knowing what a haggis is or the Scottish musical instrument. The main event was joining up with the other 550 ‘Euroscolas’ from all over Eu-rope to debate several topical subjects in the debating cham-ber of the European Parliament. Anna commented that she never felt out of her depth during the debate and noted that the youth of other countries have different priorities such as youth unemployment in Spain, the economic crisis in Greece. Well done to Anna for representing Dunblane High so mag-nificently! It is the second time in 3 years that a student from Dunblane High had been awarded the EUROSCOLA scholar-ship!
