February 2019 MONTHLY NEWSLETTER February, 2019 You shall not commit adultery. As we follow our diocesan theme, it is this sixth commandment upon which we focus during the month of February. We are called to the virtuous action of loyalty in our friendships and relationships. The sixth commandment and accompanying virtuous action are most appropriate for this month as we celebrate Valentine’s Day and often though not this year, begin our journey through Lent. The juxtaposition of Valentine’s Day and the beginning of Lent (Ash Wednesday, March 6th ) remind us that our love for one another is modeled on the unconditional love God has for each one of us. We hear in scripture: God is Love…God so loved the world that he sent his only son…Love is patient. Love is kind… We can easily fall into the trap, though that love is a sugary, sweet feeling and consequently, not “feel” loved or “feel” love toward another. We are encouraged through the example of Jesus’ life, death and resurrection to embrace love as a choice of action: choosing to put another before self.
