ggsnconnectivity for theuMtS/hSPa packet core

this requires mobile operators to deploy a robust, scalablepacket core network capable of processing massive amounts ofthroughput with exceptional reliability and availability.

Starent’s Gateway GPrS Support Node (GGSN) has become thechoice for many of the world’s most innovative 3GPP networkoperators deploying GSM, uMtS, and hSPa networks.

Supported on our St40, which is now the cisco aSr 5000, Starent’s GGSN delivers exceptional throughput, call transactionrates, and packet processing, along with significant memory resources. When combined with its subscriber and networkintelligence, reliability, and availability, our GGSN allows

mobile operators to focus on building high-margin revenuestreams without worrying about the packet core.

Starent Networks is a leading global developer of multimediacore equipment for the world’s most demanding mobile broadband networks. a true mobile broadband core network starts with the system intelligence and high performance ofStarent Networks’ St40, which is now the cisco aSr 5000.

Mobile subscribers demand access to e-mail, Internet,

mobile tv, instant messaging, and other multimedia services

through a mobile broadband connection.

Network MigrationStarent’s GGSN supports major standards for deployment inGPRS/EDGE/UMTS/WCDMA/HSPA networks. Through simplesoftware upgrades, Starent’s GGSN supports present and future 3GPP technologies to ensure investment protection as networks evolve to support Long Term Evolution(LTE)/Evolved Packet Core (EPC) and multi-access requirements (WiFi, femtocell, etc.).

In-line ServicesStarent’s platforms feature the unique ability to deploy services “in-line” meaning they’re integrated into the bearer tra c plane at the edge of the packet core network. This provides in-depth session awareness that allows networkmanagement on a per-subscriber basis and deployment of

content-aware applications. Tasks are performed without introducing latency, session interruption, or other kinds of signal degradation.

In-line Services use deep packet inspection and intelligenttra c steering to o er the following:

• Enhanced tra c monitoring, metering, and charging (interaction with standard RADIUS and GTP charging and billing systems)

• Application detection and optimization for peer-to-peerdetection and control

• Network based tra c optimization to achieve QoS basedon volume, usage, time-of-day, and tra c type

• Stateful rewall

• Content Filtering for parental control, black/white listing

Starent’s GGSN acts as the gateway between the packet core and external packet –

or IP-based – network, such as the Internet. Located at the heart of the mobile packet

core network, the GGSN serves a critical role for policy enforcement, network

protection, security, Quality of Service (QoS) enforcement, and interaction with charging

and billing systems. It can also be combined with our SGSN on a single platform to

maximize e ciency and exibility, reduce latency, and simplify network architecture.
