Introduction 5
More Golf!Dynamic, stylish, practical and fun – the Golf Wagon is the ideal
car for those who live an active life and refuse to compromise on
safety, performance or comfort. If you’re looking for a car that
provides great value as well as a great driving experience, then look
no further.
The Golf Wagon range has four variants, to ensure there’s a model
that meets your unique requirements. The 90TSI Trendline is
perfect for your weekend escapes; the 77TDI Trendline’s diesel
engine provides effortless motoring even when heavily loaded; the
118TSI Comfortline offers style and performance on long drives or
short; while the 103TDI Comfortline makes long trips seem short
with its diesel engine and classy fit-out. Even better, we’ve taken
environmental commitments seriously – all the models’ powerful,
efficient engines meet Euro 5 emission standards.
The name says it all, really. The Golf Wagon is first and foremost
a Golf. That means it shares the sophisticated design cues and
technology innovations of its siblings even as it establishes its own
unique character.
And it’s also a wagon, so it has plenty of room to fit your busy life.
It’s been designed from front to back with convenience in mind,
meaning not only does it look great, it’s also versatile and flexible.
But the Golf Wagon’s beauty is more than skin deep. On the
inside you’ll find a split folding rear seat to maximise its carrying
potential and a handy luggage partition net. Bluetooth® and a
Media Device Interface (MDI) on Comfortline models make it easy
to connect your mobile and audio devices.
So no matter where you go or what you do, the Golf Wagon will take
you – and your lifestyle – there.

Progressive power.
You want the vehicle that ticks all your boxes, but you want great fuel economy too. The 77TDI
Trendline marries the two perfectly with its 1.6 litre Common Rail turbo diesel engine, making for
a smooth, quiet and efficient ride. And the sophisticated creature comforts, including a chillable,
lockable glove box, are guaranteed to keep both you and your passengers happy.

life’s journey runs as smoothly as possible. Added to the 103TDI Comfortline’s interior offerings is an
advanced turbo diesel engine with Common Rail technology and a Diesel Particulate Filter, resulting
in a clean-burning engine that’s kind to the environment.
Cruise in comfort.
Say hello to the 118TSI Comfortline. With its sleek lines and sporty exterior, this perfect package
offers both style and comfort. Versatile and spacious, enter a world of dual zone climate control air
conditioning and adjustable comfort front seats. And it’s not just the in-car technologies that will
keep you cool – the Golf Wagon is surprisingly affordable.

90TSI Trendline.
One with the lot.If you’re looking for a vehicle offering affordable luxury, safety as standard and quality handling, you’ve come to the right place. The 90TSI Trendline is unmistakably Golf, from its charismatic design right through to its innovative technology offerings.
Standard features such as cruise control and audio controls mounted on the steering wheel means that practical becomes pleasurable, and being right at your fingertips allows you to sit back and enjoy the ride.
What’s more, you can set your own soundtrack to your life’s journey with the inbuilt RCD310 entertainment system and Multi-Function Display (MFD Plus), complete with MP3 compatibility and Bluetooth® connectivity so that your favourite drive-time playlists can come along for the ride too.
Not that we haven’t made safety a priority. With six airbags as standard, the 90TSI Trendline also comes with the reassurance of a rigid safety cell, ABS, traction control and Brake Assist.
And should a situation arise when you need to think fast and act quickly, the Electronic Stabilisation Program (ESP) will automatically adjust the engine’s power and apply the brakes on your behalf to help prevent the vehicle losing control.
The car’s features aren’t just invaluable when on the move though – Hill Start Assist (HSA) ensures no more worrying about rolling back when faced with troublesome hills.
Reliable and safe, but by no means ordinary. The turbocharged 1.4 litre TSI petrol provides 90kW of power and 200Nm of torque. So you can rest easy in the knowledge that the low fuel consumption and low emissions haven’t come at the cost of performance or driving pleasure.
Added to that, its easy-on-the-eye angles, body-coloured bumpers and 16" Sedona alloy wheels, the Trendline certainly makes for a smart choice.

Lively load-bearer.
You can be confident that when choosing a Golf Wagon, you’re
set for a great driving experience, and the 77TDI Trendline is no
exception to the rule.
Combining the latest innovations in technology with timeless
design and an exceptional driving experience, the 77TDI Trendline
is a tireless companion for all journeys great and small. Whether
you venture out for a drive by yourself or with the family in tow,
air conditioning, front and rear speakers, Multi-Function Display
(MFD Plus) and split folding rear seats allow for a comfortable ride,
with all the added space you’d expect from a wagon.
Ample storage compartments and pockets of space in both the
front and rear of the vehicle add extra practicality, and further
creature comforts on the move come in the form of a chillable
and lockable glove box.
While the impressive in-car features will no doubt incite positive
murmurings from your passengers, its road performance is equally
as pleasing to the ear.
Its 1.6 litre Common Rail TDI engine with Diesel Particulate
Filter makes for a smoother, quieter and more efficient engine
that doesn’t compromise on power or on fuel efficiency or
emissions reduction. But don’t just take our word for it – sleep
easy in the knowledge that the 77TDI meets the stringent Euro 5
emission standards.
We’ve got it covered when it comes to safety, too. Standard features
include ABS with Brake Assist, Electronic Stabilisation Program
(ESP), Anti-Slip Regulation (ASR) traction control and six airbags.
Further heightening the driving experience is the cruise control
feature and Hill Start Assist (HSA). These convenient features make
keeping an eagle eye on the speedometer during long journeys and
worrying about rolling back on steep inclines irks of the past.

Cruise controller.
With high quality materials throughout and a sophisticated,
flexible design tailored to your everyday needs, the Comfortline
models ooze practicality and impeccable ergonomics.
Safety is at the foundation of Golf Wagon’s design and engineering,
and six airbags as standard, front safety optimised head restraints
to reduce whiplash injuries and a rigid safety cell with front and
rear crumple zones are just a few of the many features on offer.
Safety doesn’t have to fall forfeit to style though, and the two go
hand in hand with Golf Wagon. Yes, it’s family-friendly, practical
and spacious, but the design is still undeniably appealing and
charismatically Golf, with sleek yet powerful lines and a sporty
yet elegant silhouette.
Producing 118kW of power and 240Nm of torque, the ingenious
1.4 litre TSI engine boasts a combined fuel consumption of
6.3L/100km*, emitting just 148g/km* of CO2. It’s a strong performer,
not to mention an efficient one.
Efficiency also lends itself to the 118TSI Comfortline’s interior.
All Golf Wagon models come fitted with an innovative luggage
partition net to keep all your luggage separated, while Bluetooth®
technology helps you stay connected with friends without losing
connection with the steering wheel.
The 118TSI Comfortline also boasts dual zone automatic climate
control, and height and lumbar adjustable front seats for added
driving enjoyment. Extending to the exterior, rain sensing
windscreen wipers and automatic headlights clear the way and
light up the on-road experience.
Inside and out, it’s strikingly clear why the Golf family has been
the vehicle of choice for decades. And with its eye-catching
German engineering, a healthy dose of modern, sophisticated
technology and standout safety features, the Golf Wagon is a
standout among its siblings.

Efficiency drive.
Quality, economy and cutting-edge technology are everything
you’ve come to expect from Golf Wagon.
And with 103TDI Comfortline, it’s not just its roomy interior and
storage solutions that guarantee to make your life easier, whether
it’s loading up with the weekly shop or heading out for an action-
packed weekend away. The optional Rear View Camera (RVC)
makes even the tightest of parking spaces a breeze, while the
Optical Parking System and Park Assist features are both extra
add-ons which take parking aids that one step further.
As far as its performance goes, the 103TDI Comfortline runs
off a powerful, efficient 2.0 litre advanced turbo diesel engine,
producing an enormous 320Nm of torque and 103kW of power that
can hold its own against many V6 petrol engines.
With great power comes great responsibility, and the 2.0 TDI
doesn’t fail to deliver. As well as a smooth and silent ride, it emits
just 144g/km of CO2*.
It may be low on carbon emissions and fuel consumption, but its
green-thinking doesn’t get in the way of drivability. Indeed, the
103TDI Comfortline certainly lives up to its name. It boasts dual
zone automatic climate control air conditioning and comfort front
seats as standard, plus its automatic rain sensing windscreen
wipers and automatic headlights continue to make an impact on
the outside.
Safety, as always, is a number one priority, and the usual standard
features you’d expect from a Golf Wagon make for a reassuring
package – think ABS with Brake Assist, Electronic Stabilisation
Program (ESP), Anti-Slip Regulation (ASR) traction control and
six airbags.
All this and impeccable design to boot. And should you want
to make your own mark on its already-athletic aesthetics, our
optional sports package will further boost its curbside appeal with
lowered sports suspension, 17" Porto alloy wheels, front fog lights
and dark tinted rear and rear side windows.

Exterior.
Coherent, continental… classic
A car should be immediately recognizable by its silhouette.
The Golf Wagon is no exception. It’s clearly a member of the Golf
family but it’s been designed as a unique vehicle in its own right.
Its lines are attractive and understated, adding verve to its subtle
planes, lines and curves.
But it’s not just about shape. The Golf Wagon also features
handsome wheels, impressive safety features and a host of detail
touches that emphasise the thoughtfulness of its design. No matter
which way you look at it, it’s a car with a presence all its own.
Exterior 17
01. 16" Sedona Alloy WheelsAll Golf Wagons are fitted with 16” Sedona Alloy Wheels as
standard, which complement its good looks and add charisma
to its silhouette. They’re also strong and light, reducing the car’s
unsprung weight and improving its handling. Bright and light,
these alloys look great and round off a great visual package.
02. Front design The Golf Wagon’s front end doesn’t just say ‘Golf’; it announces
the car as a decisive entrant into its class and a vehicle
that’s been designed with serious motoring in mind. The
Golf Wagon’s entire frontal aspect has been designed as a
single unit, meaning all its components, from the grille and
the headlights to the windscreen and roofline, fit together
aesthetically and functionally.
03. Rear design Viewed from the front, back or side-on, there’s no denying the
Golf Wagon impresses from every angle. The integrated roof
spoiler, the body-coloured bumper, the light clusters and badges
all come together in a coherent design whose balance satisfies
the eye every time.
04. Panoramic Glass Sunroof O
Let the sun shine in. Once you’ve decided on a Golf Wagon,
you might also want to decide on the optional panoramic glass
sunroof. A sunroof makes a great addition to just about any
vehicle, and if you’ve got your Wagon loaded up for a long trip,
you’ll appreciate the natural sunlight it affords.
The sunroof runs nearly the entire length of the roof, with an
electrically-operated retractable internal fabric blind providing
shade and cool in the heat of summer.

18 Interior
Interior.
Designed just for you.
The Golf is a model with a long and proud history and the Golf
Wagon draws on this heritage in numerous ways. One of which
is its interior design. Carefully refined since the first Golf drove
off the production line, it’s a careful blend of electronic and
mechanical interfaces, ergonomics and safety features.
In fact, a comfortable interior isn’t just a nicety; by reducing driver
fatigue and simplifying interactions with the car itself, it improves
safety and helps ensure you arrive at your destination feeling fresh
and alert. Seats that provide good seating positions and support
for longer trips, controls that fall naturally to hand and device
interfaces that are simple and uncluttered all contribute to a car
interior so good, you may not want to get out.
01. RCD310 Audio SystemsThe RCD310 audio system includes an MP3 compatible
CD player, so you can rip your favourite music from your
computer’s hard drive to a data disc. It also includes an
auxiliary input socket to accommodate other music sources.
02. Media Device Interface (Comfortline models)Take your music with you! The Golf Wagon’s armrest houses
the Media Device Interface (MDI). A USB cable is provided
as standard (an iPod cable is available as an optional
accessory) so no matter what kind of device you prefer, you’ll

be able to enjoy your music through the Wagon’s crystal clear
audio system.
03. 60/40 Split folding rear seat and boot spaceWith its rear seats in place, the Golf Wagon offers an enviable
amount of boot space, and with the seats folded down there’s
even more room to play with. Better yet, the rear seats have a
60/40 split fold configuration, making it easy to accommodate
long objects (like ladders, surfboards or floor lamps) without
sacrificing all its back seat capacity.
04. Luggage partition net Careful packing is the key to getting the most out of the Golf
Wagon’s load space. The luggage partition net doesn’t just
make things a little safer (by aiding the prevention of your load
from entering the passenger space); it also helps separate the
passenger and luggage areas, makes it easier to keep track of
what you’ve loaded up and helps you to fully utilise all your
luggage space (floor to ceiling) with the rear seats up or down.
05. Bluetooth® (not pictured) Safety and convenience while using your mobile phone –
what could be better? The Golf Wagon features Bluetooth®
connectivity so you can use your Bluetooth®-enabled devices
to enjoy safe, hands-free phone calls and audio streaming.
Operated by touchscreen (when equipped) or steering wheel
mounted controls, it’s a feature that will make driving easier
every time you’re behind the wheel.

Technology.
A car with the works.
Volkswagen has a proud heritage of technological excellence
and it’s embodied in every car we make. The Golf Wagon range
incorporates our latest engine and transmission technologies, as
well as other systems that combine to make ownership – not to
mention driving –more efficient and less stressful.
Our engines, for example, are both powerful and fuel-efficient,
with low emissions to boot. Our transmissions give you
confidence that you’ll be in the right gear at the right time – all the
time. And our supporting systems help you to focus your attention
on the road and the driving conditions.
Technology 21
01. TSI engineVolkswagen’s TSI technology includes turbo-charged petrol
engines with direct injection. The innovative engineering boasts
excellent torque and power at low revolutions – for you that means
lower fuel consumption and fewer emissions.
02. TDI engineVolkswagen’s cutting-edge TDI engines with Diesel Particulate
Filters feature Common Rail technology that injects precise
amounts of fuel at extremely high pressure. This not only results in
a cleaner burning engine – and years of hard-wearing durability –
but exceptional fuel economy, impressive torque and compelling
performance whatever the drive.
03. DSG - Direct Shift Gearbox (DSG) (not pictured) DSG is an advanced 6 or 7-speed transmission in which the clutch
and gearshift are controlled electronically. What makes DSG
unique is that the next gear is already pre-selected and awaiting
power to be transferred, resulting in a gear change that takes
only 3-4 hundredths of a second. The benefits are virtually no
interruption to power, traction or acceleration, and additional
flexibility. Furthermore, because it ensures optimum transmission
of the engine power, DSG provides excellent fuel consumption and
driving satisfaction.
Hill Start Assist (HSA) (not pictured)
Hill Start Assist holds the vehicle stationary for 1.5 seconds on
hills with an incline greater than 5 percent, when the foot brake is
released, by temporarily locking the brake pressure. This intelligent
feature provides a comfortable hill start, which importantly avoids
any rolling back.

Safety.
Our first priority.
At Volkswagen, safety is a priority. That’s why, when you decide
to buy a Volkswagen, you can be confident that it has a range of
features and technologies working together to keep you and your
passengers safe and sound.
The Golf Wagon combines active safety features – designed to help
prevent accidents from happening – with passive safety features –
designed to minimise harm to occupants should an accident occur.
These include traction and braking control systems as well as
airbags, seatbelts, crumple zones and more.
22 Safety22 Safety
01
01. AirbagsSix airbags (twin front, front side and full length curtain)
are standard features. Airbags combine with the seat belts
to help reduce the risk of severe head and chest injuries in
collisions. When inflated, airbags cushion the head and
upper body and distribute the resulting loads over as large an
area as possible.
01
156789 GolfWagon MY13_D6.indd 22 13/08/12 11:42 AM
Safety 23
02. Traction Control (EDL, ASR and ESP) Braking Control (Brake Assist, ABS and EBD)Traction control helps to ensure that you maintain control of
your vehicle even in difficult driving situations. Built around
three distinctive functions, Electronic Stabilisation Program
(ESP), Electronic Differential Lock (EDL) and Anti-Slip
Regulation (ASR), Traction Control improves grip, helps prevent
wheel spin and adjusts engine power automatically depending
on the conditions.
03. Safety Optimised Head Restraints By working in unison with your vehicle’s seatbelts, your Golf
Wagon’s front Safety Optimised Head Restraints are designed to
reduce whiplash injury – ensuring optimal protection when you
need it most.
04. Crumple zones (not pictured)
The body of the Golf Wagon has also been designed with the
passengers ‘safety in mind. Front and rear crumple zones absorb
the energy of an impact in the event of an accident, working
together with the safety cell for you and your passengers inside
the cabin.
05. Seatbelts All seats feature three-point seatbelts, while the front seats also
have belt pre-tensioners (which tighten the belt on impact) and
belt force limiters (which reduce forces on passengers). These help
position the body so as to minimise injuries in the event of a crash.

Optional Equipment.
What would you like?
We all know a car is more than just a car. It’s a statement, an
expression of your personality and values. And while the Golf
Wagon has a strong identity of its own, you may decide to add
in some optional equipment to ensure it’s a perfect fit with your
lifestyle and your needs.
Volkswagen offers a range of options covering appearance,
performance, comfort and driver systems. So whether you want
better all-around visibility, an improved sound system or just to
add a little pizzazz to your Wagon’s appearance, you’ll find an
option that’ll fit the bill.
24 Optional Equipment
06
01. Vienna Leather Appointed Sports Seating O
It’s clear the Golf Wagon looks good, but with its choice of
tactile materials inside, it feels good too. The optional Vienna
Leather appointed sports seating holds you close and offers
firm support when the roads get twisty and the driving gets
spirited. And their heating and electric lumbar adjustment
puts you firmly in the driving seat of your own comfort.
02. Park Assist with Front and Rear Parking SensorsPark Assist is able to manoeuvre the vehicle into parking
spaces for you. Once engaged, ultrasonic sensors compare
the available space with the length of the vehicle, when

driving past a parking space. If there’s enough room to park,
Park Assist automatically takes charge of the steering when you
select reverse gear. The accelerator, clutch and brake are all you
need to control as the Golf is expertly parked for you.
03. Rear View Camera (RVC) (not pictured) O
A clear view of what’s behind you makes reversing and parking
safer and easier than ever. The Rear View Camera makes it
easy to check your surroundings and avoid accidental impacts.
On-screen guidance lines even help guide you into difficult
parking spaces.
04. RNS510 Satellite Navigation O
The optional RNS510 Satellite Navigation system is perfect
for those times when you decide to make a long trip into the
unknown – or even when you’re just exploring a new part of town.
With a hard drive to store your favourite music, a DVD player and
SD memory card slot and a touch sensitive screen, it also makes a
great addition to the Golf Wagon’s entertainment capabilities.
05. Optical Parking System (OPS) (not pictured) Available in conjunction with Park Assist, the Optical Parking
System provides a visual display of the Golf Wagon on the radio
or navigation system screen, showing the Golf’s position and
distance from obstacles. The location of any obstacle within
range of the ultrasonic sensors is highlighted on screen.
06. Sport PackageComfortline owners can also select an optional Sport Package
for their Golf Wagon. This includes dark tinted rear side and
rear windows to help keep the car cooler in summer; front fog
lights to aid visibility when the weather closes in; and 17" Porto
Alloy Wheels to improve handling and enhance the car’s stylish
appearance. As well as a high visual impact, there’s lowered
sports suspension and a low tyre pressure indicator too.

Fuel Saving Tips.
We can all Think Blue.
At Volkswagen, we believe we have a responsibility to produce the most fuel efficient, environmentally sustainable vehicles possible. But the good news is that all of us can Think Blue. By driving more responsibly, we can reduce fuel consumption even further.
How much difference can just one person make? Rather a big difference, we think. It’s not just about individual actions and the savings they make. It’s also about the effect they have on the wider world. Your decision to consume less fuel and limit your carbon emissions sends a clear message about your commitment to sustainability and your determination to act accordingly. As individuals, the difference we make to global emissions is modest. As part of a global movement to act responsibly and take better care of our planet, the difference we make is huge.
Fossil fuels are a limited resource, just like clean air and clean water. They won’t last forever, so the less we use now, the longer our supplies will last and the longer we’ll have to find better alternatives.
There are also benefits that are real and noticeable right here, right now. Reducing your consumption will put money back in your pocket as you enjoy low-emission motoring – and it couldn’t be simpler.
We believe that to ‘Think Blue’ about your driving style isn’t difficult, and its practical benefits go far beyond just saving money and reducing emissions. Here are nine tips on how to drive more efficiently.
Be aware and save fuel. Think Blue.
38 Fuel Saving Tips
04. Comfort high, fuel consumption lowUse auxiliary equipment in moderation. We all love our sound systems, air conditioning and other creature
comforts, but they all use energy, which ultimately means that they
all consume fuel. Turn off seat heaters and de-misters once they’ve
done their job. Open your windows for a moment or two as you drive
off in summer to let the hot air circulate out before reaching for the
air conditioning. Check your route before you get going and the
equipment you’re using – if you don’t need it, consider turning it off.
05. Savings are in the airCheck your tyre pressures.Checking your tyre pressures before driving off can pay big
dividends when it comes to cutting fuel consumption. Under-
inflated tyres massively increase rolling resistance, forcing your
car to work harder (and burn more fuel) just to move down the
road. If you’re buying new tyres, look out for those with lower
rolling resistance. Keeping your tyres in good order can help you
save fuel before you’ve even driven off!
06. A warm engine – a cool way to saveAvoid short trips. Many short trips means higher fuel consumption. Why?
Because cold engines run less efficiently, and lots of short trips
means your engine will spend much more time running cold.
Plan your errands to minimise the number of trips you need to make
and you’ll save yourself time and stress as well as fuel and emissions.
(It’s unnecessary to run the engine just to warm it up – as it doesn’t
reduce fuel consumption and is environmentally unfriendly.)
156789 GolfWagon MY13_D6.indd 38 13/08/12 11:43 AM
Fuel Saving Tips 39
01. Take it easy and save Drive the modern way and think ahead.Aggressive driving – hard braking and acceleration, sudden lane
changes and unpredictable behaviour – is also fuel-inefficient
driving. Instead, take a modern approach: predictive driving.
Drive smoothly, watching as far ahead as you can to anticipate
hazards and other events; cruise with the traffic and use your
momentum to help you arrive safe and relaxed.
07. Well-oiled for impressive savingsUse Volkswagen approved engine oils.A well-lubricated engine produces less emissions than a
poorly lubricated engine, especially when the weather is cold
or the trip is short. Volkswagen Approved engine oils circulate
easily, helping reduce fuel consumption and emissions. So make
sure you use Volkswagen Approved engine oils and make sure you
stick to your car’s recommended oil change intervals.
Drive in the highest gear possible. If you have a manual transmission, work your way up through the
gears as quickly as you can. Change into second gear once you’ve
moved forward a car length, and cruise in the highest gear that‘s
practical. It’s like riding a bike – cruising at low revs uses far less
energy than pedaling hard all the time. With an automatic, reduce
excessive acceleration and avoid a kick down.
08. Keep it sleekCut aerodynamic drag.Aerodynamics can have a significant impact on fuel consumption,
especially on longer trips. So make sure you take your roof racks,
bike racks, roof boxes and other attachments off your car when
they’re not in use. And keep windows up (and sunroofs closed)
when cruising, as the air turbulence they create increases drag
and hence, fuel consumption. You’ll feel the difference as you
drive and you’ll see the difference at the fuel bowser.
03. Just let it roll
With the right driving techniques you can really start saving.
The overrun fuel cutoff feature interrupts fuel supply to the engine
so that not a single drop of fuel is used. Simply take your foot off of
the accelerator, keeping your car in gear when coasting down hills
or towards traffic lights. This will reduce your fuel usage.
09. Lightly does itAvoid unnecessary weight.Every kilogram you load into your car takes energy to move –
energy that will be supplied by burning fuel. You don’t want to
be caught short of items you need, but there’s no point in lugging
around your golf clubs, tent, portable barbecue and full tool box
‘just in case’. Pare your regular load down to the minimum and
enjoy the space as well as the fuel savings.

40 Glossary O Optional equipment
Glossary.Anti-lock Braking System (ABS)When braking, wheel speed sensors measure the road wheel
speed and should one or more wheels start to lock the ABS system
reduces brake pressure to that wheel. This prevents the wheels
from locking during heavy or emergency braking, enabling the
vehicle to remain steerable.
Anti-Slip Regulation (ASR)ASR is a switchable traction control system that prevents the wheels
from spinning under acceleration by reducing engine torque.
Brake AssistDuring emergency braking, Brake Assist aids the driver by
increasing the brake pressure automatically to a level exceeding the
locking limit. The ABS is thus quickly brought into the operating
range, which enables maximum vehicle deceleration to be achieved.
Direct Shift Gearbox (DSG)DSG is a manual gearbox in which the gearshifts are controlled
electronically. What makes the DSG unique is that it has 2 separate
gear sets operated by 2 clutches. The benefit of 2 gear sets and
2 clutches is that one gear set and clutch is engaged driving the
vehicle with the second disengaged clutch having already pre-
selected the next gear awaiting for power to be transferred.
As the next gear has already been pre-selected prior to power
being applied, the gear change only takes 3-4 100ths of a
second. There is virtually no interruption to power, traction or
acceleration. The DSG also offers Tiptronic gear selection and
sports mode.
Electronic Brake-pressure Distribution (EBD)Electronic, more sophisticated means of regulating the ratio
of front/rear brake pressure. Settings are varied according to
driving and load conditions to ensure each wheel is braked to the
optimum extent.
EDL improves driving and steering characteristics when
accelerating on road surfaces where each wheel has a different
degree of traction. The system operates automatically and is
combined with the ABS system. Using the ABS wheel sensors,
EDL monitors the speed of the individual driving wheels. When a
difference in driving wheel speed is detected (i.e. when one wheel
starts to spin due to differences in road surfaces, e.g. due to water
or dirt) the system brakes the spinning wheel, transferring engine
power to the wheel with the best traction.
Electronic Stabilisation Program (ESP)ABS and ASR traction control systems are integrated into the
Electronic Stabilisation Program (ESP). In short, ESP helps ensure
that the vehicle goes where you steer it even in extreme driving
conditions. The ESP system constantly compares the actual
movement of the vehicle with pre-determined values and should
a situation arise where the vehicle starts to skid, ESP will apply
the brakes to individual wheels and automatically adjust the
engine’s power output to correct the problem. ESP prevents the
vehicle from losing control when trying to avoid an accident, for
example. It also prevents spinning off on a curve due to either
understeer or oversteer.
Hill Start Assist (HSA)Hill Start Assist (HSA) holds the vehicle when the foot brake is
released by temporarily locking the brake pressure (for a maximum
of 1.5 seconds) to provide comfortable starting-off without rolling
back. Hill Start Assist (HSA) operates on inclines greater than 5%
and is fitted in combination with both the manual transmission and
the Direct Shift Gearbox (DSG).
Park Assist O
Park Assist actively helps the driver when reversing into parallel
parking spaces. The system works by using sensors mounted either
side of the front bumper together with parking distance sensors
front and rear. To parallel park the driver needs to press the Park
Assist button and use the appropriate indicator before the car
passes the potential parking space. Sensors in the front bumper
then scan the size of the parking space as the car is driven slowly
past and the driver is alerted if the parking space is big enough.
If there is sufficient space, the driver stops the car, selects reverse
and let’s go of the steering wheel.
Park Assist will alert the driver of the intended reverse path in the
Multi-Function Display, within the driver’s field of vision. Park
Assist then actively supports the driver by taking over the steering
control and parks the vehicle in the available space using the ideal
course, if necessary with several moves. The driver can however
take over the control of the steering at any time and end the
automatic parking procedure. The system can reverse into parking
spaces on both the left hand and right hand side of the road, for
example on one way streets.
Park Assist cannot replace the driver’s attentiveness. The driver is still legally responsible for the vehicle. If the driver notices a risk that pedestrians, other vehicles or objects could be damaged or if they are uncertain of the risk, they will need to react accordingly and stop the vehicle, ending the function.
