Everyones favourite tropical big top, The Lighthouse, will take pride of place at Festival Park hosting laugh-out-loud comedy faves like Frank Woodley and Ronny Chieng; outrageous cabaret and circus antics from the Briefs boys; the brightest stars of the contemporary music scene including party starters Saskwatch, the island soul flair of Bobby Alu, and queen of the 90s

Late at night The Lighthouse becomes the place to hang out and get down at the Festival Club. Channel your inner performer and sing along with The backUp Service where its your chance to shine, get in the dance groove with Korean hip hop masters Dynamic Duo, or chill out with friends until the wee small hours. We have a great range of delicious options for grabbing a bite to eat, so drop in for free live music at the Pendopo programmed with Music NT and stay for a cheeky drink or two.

Across town at Georges Green, The Amphitheatre is the place to be for the large-scale theatrical experience of Tom E. Lewis Shadow King and legendary big music spectacles like Gurrumul and Soweto Gospel Choir. The opening weekend of the Festival celebrates our people and place with 100% Darwin, a truly massive show featuring 100 Darwinians showing us on stage how we think, feel and act in a once-in-a-lifetime, live, interactive human opinion poll. Families are spoilt for choice with free events including the enchanting Vietnamese Water Puppets on the Waterfront Recreation Lagoon, and whats sure to be the talk to the town the weird and wonderful Indonesian

roving puppet creations set to take over Festival Park - Wedhus Gembel.

While travelling around town keep your eyes peeled for Temporary Territory temporary guerrilla makeovers, turning everyday Darwin bus shelters into vibrant sites for the unexpected and the celebratory. And get in quick for the ever popular Festival dinners and Backyard Series events.

Matt Wright has spent his life in the great outdoors drawn to creatures most of us would run from. Fascinated by the Saltwater Crocodile, Matt resides in the Northern Territory where he continues to collect crocodile eggs and relocate problem Salties.

Matts unique skills as a helicopter pilot, animal conservationist and wild animal relocation expert can be seen in his television series on Nat Geo Wild, Outback Wrangler.

As a chopper pilot, Matt has been able to access areas that would otherwise be impossible to reach. He now unlocks some of these once hidden treasures for all to see with his Adventure Tourism Company, Outback Floatplane Adventures.

Suitable for everyone, The Ultimate Tour is an exciting half day adventure. It offers a spectacular floatplane landing on Sweets Lagoon (the famed lagoon where Sweetheart the Monster Crocodile was caught in the 70s), an exhilarating airboat ride through rainforest channels and wetlands, a helicopter flight over the floodplains of Litchfield National Park, an off-road buggy transfer beneath the rainforest canopy, a cooked breakfast/lunch billabong cruise and even a swim in a croc-safe pool!

    C A S S I EValastroCASSIE ISNT JUST A PRETTY

    FACE. AT JUST

    24 YEARS OLD,

    SHES A MODERN

    DAY RENAISSANCE

    WOMAN: BEAUT IFUL,

    TALENTED, AND

    DR IVEN.

In addition to being a successful model, this beautys got brains too, studying her final year of a Communications degree at Charles Darwin University. Cassie balances all this, on top of motherhood, raising daughters Akaila, 6, and Scarlett, 2.

People often ask how I manage work, study and family, says Cassie. I owe my success to my family. Especially my mum, she is amazing. Without their love and support, I couldnt manage as much as I do.

Cassie proves that with determination and strong family values, women can achieve success and balance.

I try to maintain a good routine, and I do my best to ensure I spend as much time as possible with my girls, when Im not working.

Shes not always perfect; I find it extremely hard to keep the house clean. But thats ok; well forgive her for it. My mum always says its not the end of the world.Cassie began modelling four years ago when she was crowned RALPH Australian Swimwear Model of the Year 2010, in her first ever modelling competition. Cassie went on to model interstate for calendars and magazines such as RALPH and ZOO Weekly. She also won Who looks best in their little black dress 2011 and Miss Monsoons 2012, then decided she wanted to focus on her career rather than modelling competitions. Cassie has worked locally, modelling for publications including Resident and Darwin Life Magazine, as well as appearing on the catwalk and in several print and television advertisements.

I resigned from my job as a flight attendant in 2010 and have worked within the fashion, marketing and media industries since, says Cassie. I have even worked behind the scenes on Darwin Life Magazine and NT Life Hotel Book.

Passionate for the outdoors, the glamour of a four-year modelling career hasnt spoiled this born and bred territory girl.

I grew up rurally at Humpty Doo, and absolutely love the farm life. My favourite thing about being raised in the bush was the lifestyle. I love animals, riding horses, quad bike riding, fishing and hunting.

Ambitious and gorgeous, Cassie is driven in the pursuit of a career in the media industry. I have recently started television presenting alongside Rick Knight, the Darwin Gig Guide is a guide to whats on at local venues such as: The Deck Bar, Shenanigans, Discovery Darwin, The Precinct and The Pickled Parrot Bar and Lounge. People often ask how I manage work, study and family, says Cassie. I owe my success to my family. Especially my mum, she is amazing. Without their love and support, I couldnt manage as much as I do.

I try to maintain a good routine, and I do my best to ensure I spend as much time as possible with my girls, when Im not working.

Cassie went on to model interstate for calendars and magazines such as RALPH and ZOO Weekly. She also won Who looks best in their little black dress 2011 and Miss Monsoons 2012, then decided she wanted to focus on her career rather than modelling competitions. • Alana Brown looks just like any other typical 20-year old but you wont see her donning a fascinator or frock during the 2014 Carlton Mid Darwin Cup Carnival, she prefers dressing up in jockey silks.

Its lucky really, because between working full time as an insurance broker assistant, studying, early morning rides, stable work and racing weekends she would never find the time to shop! The 6th-generation Darwin-born youngster will instead be at the centre of attention on the track, skilfully steering a muscle-bound racehorse beneath her slight frame across the iconic Darwin Turf Club dirt track. The promising apprentice recently claimed her biggest win to date when she rode her Grandfathers horse Cheville to victory with a skilful surge to the finish line in the $20,000 QBE Cup on Saturday 14th June. Its a feeling I cant really describe, it was a very emotional win and I havent had a smile on my face like that in a very long time. Its a rush of adrenalin, pride and just general happiness all in one, said Alana of the victory. But shes the first to admit its a tough industry, having suffered countless injuries along the ride. On back-to-back Saturdays during last years Carlton Mid Darwin Cup Carnival her horses flipped in or near the barriers - the second landing directly on top of her. I stupidly didnt go to hospital straight away and waited a couple of days. It turned out I had sprained my ankle, fractured my nose, torn some muscles in my lower back, crushed a vertebrae and suffered a slight slipped disc.I had to re-strengthen my back, just trying to lift something was difficult, it was very frustrating but I had a lot of support. It took almost five months to fully recover, with plenty of physiotherapy. There is no hesitation when asked where her inspiration comes from - her father -former jockey and now trainer Stephen Brown. Hes very, very knowledgeable both with riding and training. Hes always supported me, given me pointers and let me keep racing even though I probably rode a few terribly, said Alana of her number one role model.I may not be as physically strong a rider as he was, but hes always said its not about how hard you can hit them, its about keeping them balanced and thinking well throughout the race. Now firmly back in the saddle and in great form coming into the 2014 Carlton Mid Darwin Cup Carnival she says she would be ecstatic if she could manage to claim victory in a feature race.I have always ridden horses, I cant say there was one real deciding factor that made me want to do it, Ive always wanted to. It is hard work and is definitely something that you have to love, she said.

But how does she do it? ..... How does she manage to look so good all the time? She says its all about attitude, making sure YOU wear the outfit and dont let IT wear you.The fashion industry is ever-changing, with new styles constantly evolving so it is difficult to find a balance between an on-trend look with something that suits you, said the communications student who hopes to have a career in the media industry.Current trends consist of floral patterns and colourful fabrics. These are great if you want to look feminine and pretty, she said. For a more sultry look choose a fitting design, made from darker fabrics; this doesnt necessarily mean a short, tight or revealing outfit. You can be sexy and sophisticated - a hairstyle or statement heals can complete the sultry look. But most importantly, wear your confidence on your sleeve (if your outfit

permits). Your attitude can turn a mediocre dress into a show stopper or the perfect ensemble into a flop.Wear your outfit with confidence, poise and presence and you will never go unnoticed at the track!Photo Perfection: Making sure your amazing Raceday look is captured perfectly on camera can be a challenge - Cassie has some easy tips to achieving the perfect pic. 1. Place your tongue behind your top teeth to ensure you have a perfect smile. 2. Standing on an angle, diagonal to the photographer, or with your legs crossed in front of you, will make you appear more long and lean.

Thank you to the 2014 Carlton Mid Darwin Cup Carnival Ambassador sponsors: Jacci O Designs, Helen Rose Millinery, The Pearl Galleria, Stomp Shoes and Impact Hair Studio.

Shes intelligent, beautiful, confident and comfortable posing cheek-to-cheek with a 500kg thoroughbred racehorse, by all accounts Darwin-born model and presenter Cassie Valastro fits perfectly into the roll of

2014 Carlton Mid Darwin Cup Carnival Ambassador.

Their beauty regime is extensive and it seems sometimes painful. While two-legged fillies enjoy manicures, make-up and dress fittings our thoroughbred friends undergo meticulous manicuring daily.Smile.dont smile!!Horses are notorious for having terrible teeth and racehorses are no different. A trip to the horse dentist sounds even more frightening than the human kind - forget fillings; horses have their teeth manually filed down with a mega-sized device resembling a nail file! Many young horses need their teeth pulled outand clearly have little access to teeth whitening facilities.Fast FootworkLike a ladys killer heals, a racehorses footwear is critical to their raceday attire. Thoroughbreds get new shoes around every three to four weeks. Their feet grow like human toe nails and need to be trimmed and filed. Their shoes dont just slip on thoughtheyre nailed on!Grooming Gallopers

Their shining coats and long-flowing tails dont all come naturally a racehorses handler is also their hairdresser. They get a wake-up hair brush in the morning and Darwin racers have a tough time ridding themselves of the dirt from the dirt track after training every day. On race days they get the deluxe treatment with a full body shampoo and a tail condition. Carrying WeightFor a thoroughbred a single race can yield the weight loss of a 12-week boot camp. A horse can loose 5 - 10 kgs over one race. But like most fad diets they do tend to quickly put it back on within two three days.

If you think its a tough job glamming up for the Carlton Mid Darwin Cup Carnival, next time youre trackside spare a thought for the actual

    showstoppers the horses!

Its true. Many clients do. And, they keep coming back for more because of one person. Someone who says it like it is, knows her stuff, gives a damn about you and what you want an, who once upon a time, couldnt look at herself in the mirror without shrieking. Meet Holly Copping.Holly was a 12- year old like any other; vibrant, managing hormones and absorbing the world. She was also accompanied by the endless embarrassment that dogs those covered with chronic acne. Despite battling the anguish Holly was determined to save her own skin. It was costly in many ways, but from the barrage of teasing and torment came a personal interest in skin care.Hollys Diploma of Beauty Therapy fuelled her ambition to some extent but becoming a fully qualified Dermal Therapist satisfied her soul. She completed a two- year Advanced Diploma of Cosmetic Dermal Science and also became an IPL (Intense Pulsed Light)/Laser Safety Officer, courses delivered by the Australasian Academy of Cosmetic Dermal Science (AACDS). Holly became the first in the Northern Territory to achieve this level of training allowing her to perform laser therapy, chemical peels, skin needling, microdermabrasion and other advanced beauty/cosmetic procedures. Qualifying with these skills has not only provided Holly with a vital platform for professional longevity but her own enterprise that specialises in laser and skin treatments, Territory Laser Clinic. You will be entertained at Hollys clinic. There wont be dancing

elephants or magic tricks but a down to earth greeting, superbly clean environment, qualifications you can see, an adorable receptionist (Hollys proud mum, Di), and the woman who runs the show. And lets just say when you meet Holly, youll be relieved; relieved that she listens, knows what shes talking about, can perform her job with skill, doesnt have dollar signs flashing before her eyes, thankfully has a sense of humour, is genuine and perhaps one of the most empathetic people on the planet. And occasionally in this industry, its good to wear your heart on your sleeve. I hear many personal stories in my consultancy room and do my best to hide the tears behind my laser goggles, confesses Holly. People open up to me and their hardships are unfathomable at times from deep depression, the loss of a loved one, divorce, trauma or miscarriage.Hollys clients also come from all backgrounds and ages, from those batting acne at 11 to senior people wanting to feel better about themselves. We even have teenage boys come in with their parents and I can comprehend how this feels, assures Holly. Its embarrassing, youre unsure of whats going to happen and feel so insecure. But I build a strong rapport with these kids and from then they want to come in on their own. You morph yourself into becoming someone clients can trust and you follow their lead. For many looking for a solution to a problem, visiting Territory Laser Clinic is often the last port of call and most are jaded or skeptical, says the woman who goes above

and beyond her nine to five. But I constantly reiterate to clients theyre more in control than they think they are. I always ask, how do you feel about this? or say, if youre not happy, talk to me because I often know what theyre going through and how frustrating it can be. Im a pretty normal person and say what I feel. I cant lie to people but offer realistic expectations. I dont make clients sign up to plans or programs and work on the philosophy that this is what we can do and this is how we could do it with what they can afford. Theres no point being any other way, affirms Holly. Now a year and a half old, Hollys clinic houses two gratifying awards, the National NEIS (New Enterprise Incentive Scheme) Association for Best New Business 2013, honouring its hard-working specialists overall business performance and the Advanced Skin Technology 2013 Clinic of the Year, Single Operator Clinic National, for product sales. Not bad for a rather humble, self-confessed anally retentive, perfectionist born in Gove (a year after Cyclone Tracy) whos certain its never too late to start looking after your skin. Holly knows. - She has being doing it for 26 years.

Thank God theres someone in the Territory who knows her numbers and gives a damn about yours. Katherine Haines. With more than 10 years in accounting, bookkeeping and financial planning this highly self-motivated, down to earth, says-it-like-it-is owner of KHB Bookkeeping is on a mission to reduce the burden of bookwork and tax obligations on small business. And the businesswoman who has a BA in Accounting and Diploma Financial Services from Charles Darwin is doing just that across the NT, without a minefield of jargon, while using the latest, life-changing accounting systems; but, more about that later. Katherine is also turning KHB into one of the top referral partners with local accountants and Andrew Green, who runs Palmerston-based APG Accounting, can back this up. APG Accounting has exclusively been referring clients in need of record keeping assistance to KHB for six months. Were delighted with the quality of work, professionalism and approach KHB has with every engagement and KHB is clearly the local specialist in its field. Now to achieve this status in only four years in business takes work and solid know-how and the KHB crew has close to 50 years experience combined. Stefanie can run the back office of any small business with pinpoint accuracy. If Joanne was any more organized shed make administration and stock control Olympic sports and Shannons welcomed eager approach to returning to the workplace is a force to be reckoned with as are her skills in bringing up three children. Plus, Tanyas 20 years experience in office accounting means shell go to any degree to track down a single cent. Nailing every aspect of the bookkeeping world is the other essential element that has fostered KHBs flawless reputation. BAS and GST can be the most horrifying three letters for anyone poking a calculator with a single finger whos uncertain of where their business is heading, where their money is going or where that cardboard box of crumpled and fading receipts might be. But education is an avenue where the KHB team thrive assisting clients on and off site, running through MYOB, doing the sums for the End of Month or End of Year, Financial Reporting, Accounts Payable/Recievable or consulting one on one with accountants.

Yet, there is a new concept in town, as mentioned earlier called Xero, the latest accounting software. With KHB now certified Xero partners, Katherine has tailored a unique and innovative experience for servicing sole traders, Express Bookkeeping for Tradies; a cost-effective, convenient and timely pick up and drop off service. Tradies are the ones that always seem to find themselves in the s**t with the ATO around tax time and struggle to get ahead, says Katherine emphatically while apologizing for the expletive despite its context. Stefanie agrees. Many tradies dont realize they need to understand their finances to stay afloat or perhaps dont know how or have let them lapse. But our Express service is affordable, simple and convenient and will get you out of that hole. Plus, when you understand whats going on with your finances you have greater confidence and control, reiterates Katherine. Storm Cell TVs Paul Thompson is a far cry from his cash flow issues and late BAS fees. Xero is accessible to KHB and I at any time and simultaneously. Ive become more proactive with my admin and accounts and for the first time in two years Im up to date and driving forward opposed to catching up. And, many others are enjoying this long-overdue, welcomed relief from the benefits of Xero including Ed Hardy from Hardys Landscaping whose bookkeeping was, as he says, ad hoc, self-taught and last minute. But, we changed to Xero and with the time Ive saved Ive taken on another full time employee and now spend more time quoting and winning jobs. So, if youre sitting there and dont know or understand how your business is performing or if youre using your car floor or an empty beer carton as your filing system call KHB, urges Katherine, we can help you get organised and back on track.

    WELL AHEAD OF

We empower our clients with skills and knowledge to enable them to be more in control of their own personal situation; because its their money.

Owners Jason and Jo Davies, two extremely caring and genuinely positive human beings, are adamant about sustaining up-to-date services and an unquestionable do-all-we-can-to-help-you attitude for both two-legged guests and four. And, heres how they do it.Pet Boarding Were one of the first in Australia to offer a Skype service, enthuses Jason. We phone you on holiday and give you an update about your best mate for peace of mind. Someones always supervising group-play right through to bathing and basic grooming for some extra attention, but really its about spending time with your pet, beams the Vet Nurse of 16 years. Jason has six senior kennel attendants, many who are experienced and constantly educated through the PIAA and International Dog Academy. The only fully air-conditioned facility in Darwin for dogs and cats has purposed-built facilities to ensure comfort and space; and were also the Territorys only kennel and one of seven in Australia accredited by the Pet Industry Association of Australia (PIAA), adds Jason. An external audit with a stringent criteria that updates every four years to meet current standards. Anyone can become a member but it takes more work to become accredited.Interstate Pet Travel Agency and Pet TaxiWith Darwins flow of people moving up and out, Jo and Jasons goal is to make pet travel simple. To organise it yourself you need to know crate size, when your pet needs to be at the airport and what they need while flying, but at

The Furry Godmother Pet Resort, we do all that for you. All you need to do is tell us what day and where and concentrate on moving state as Catt and Richard King and their Silky Terrier, Molly, did from Darwin to Perth. The top-notch travel service doesnt stop there, with the Furry Godmother launching its full pet taxi service, operating 8am to 5pm (with after hours) from as far as Jabiru and Katherine to groomers, vets, breeders, in fact, any place you need your pet picked up and dropped off, adds Jason.Doggy Day CareJust like childcare, pet owners happily book their furry friends in for some top-rated play a few times a week or even daily while others travelling around Darwin drop off for the day. Theyre safe, they can play, socialise and sleep well that night. Frankie, previously a nervous italian greyhound has really built up her confidence and social skills by coming in one day a week. Her owner, John Callahan, gets in trouble from Frankie if shes not here daily at 7.30am when we open, chuckles Jason, who only ever wants for others pets what he gives his own three cats and dog; To be healthy, safe and having fun.

Regional Imaging has been serving the Northern Territory for more than 15 years and the expertise it provides the Territory is top-class and affects, changes and saves lives every day from the CBD to beyond the outback. Our four fully trained sonographers, who are highly skilled in pregnancy ultrasounds and some of whom can perform a variety of x-rays, fly out monthly to Port Keats-Wadeye, Groote Eylandt, Jabiru, Oenpelli-Gunbalanya and Maningrida, shares Daniel Monteiro, Regional Imagings Customer Relations Manager. Theyre a very specialised group of people. One of the team heads out with a pilot and small plane for two days as part of Regional Imagings service to see approximately 50 patients from one region. We take our portable ultrasound machine and assist people from pregnancy examinations to more complex injuries and have also helped out with scans for the first orthopaedic clinic on Groote Eylandt, adds senior

sonographer of 20 years in the Territory, Helena Lassemillante. Myself and our radiographer saw up to 40 patients on Groote. Its hard work but a great sense of achievement because youre working closely with midwives and doctors and its very much a teamwork environment out there.Over the next year Daniels determined to bring these remote communities online to give people another avenue to view reports and allow doctors to explain and show information to patients. Darwin GPs have this service and we want this in regional NT too, insists Daniel whos also working to continue the overwhelming success and benefits of Regional Imagings *GP education seminars where attendance has almost tripled since its first forum, which catered for 27 health professionals across the industry in October, 2013.We invite specialists and doctors who work and live in Darwin to present and encourage them to share their opinions even if these challenge ours, reinforces Daniel. We

dont have our logos and banners all over the place or give a spiel about ourselves, we just get straight into the education and encourage discussion. Our second forum even helped modify requests for scans and images which is what were here to do, help doctors and specialists find the best answers and approach for their patients.*Contact Regional Imaging to join the GP Education Seminar this October.

Hallmark Computers has considerable expertise. Its an Australia-wide business created 18 years ago by Edward Ho who retired and handed over the thriving enterprise to two highly intelligent people in 2009. Ashok, a computer science engineer who completed a Masters of IT Management had operated a successful computer service business in Sydney from 1999, but he and wife Neethi were destined to make a greater mark in IT, and they are. We wanted to grow and try more options so we travelled Australia to see the country and researched different businesses and locations. Hallmark Computers was for sale and Ashok came to see its prospects, remembers Neethi, an electrical engineer who also has a Post Graduate Diploma in HR Management, a Post Graduate Certificate in General Management and worked at Sydneys Computer Science Corporation. We saw Darwin as a growing city and knew with our skills and knowledge we could develop the opportunities Hallmark Computers offered.Five years on the McMinn St business has experienced technicians skilled in many

services from Apple, MYOB and Microsoft Certified catering for businesses, retailers and users alike to offering apprenticeships and industry tours for schools. Transforming Hallmarks heavily paper-orientated system to a highly automated online system has improved efficiency and achieved a lower cost base. It has also given clients a platform to access products 24/7 and generated unparalleled efficiency in all departments so Hallmark Computers remains on par with ITs continuous and highly influential progress. People are currently moving from information stored on devices to a common shared resource like Cloud, so information is accessible from any device making life more flexible and society more information rich. Technology has also infiltrated every faculty of life, and is no longer a distinguished field as it was previously, and we are fast becoming global citizens where common values are shared whether thats economically or even legally, reinforces Ashok. These changes in consumer behavior, a greater awareness and versatility with more mobile gadgets being introduced and the

change in the local market with big players buying nationally, instigated our new repairs arm of the business, which we believe will grow in the future in Australia. Weve also created know-how accreditation for all Smart Phones, tablets, laptops, consoles, Mac and desktop repairs, adds Neethi. Previously, the Top End had to head south for repair services but in just over three years Hallmark Computers has performed almost 19 000 repairs with the workload stretching from the Northern Territory Government to schools, businesses, families and individuals. We are thankful to our customers for their support and understanding over the years and hope to remain a Territory partner in its growth.

Since March 1, many in the CBD who uncovered this delicious coffee enclave at the green end of Mitchell St have been fortunate to have their usual whipped up exactly the same every day with a hearty smile from someone who relishes the art of making coffee. Christos Panas, co-owner of Cafe Del Art, is a famous Darwin barista and veteran of the hospitality industry. For almost two decades he has tasted and created the very best in coffee and even claimed an illustrious title at the National Caf Biz Pura/Dairy Farmers Latte Art Championship in 2013. Basically, the mans a genius when it comes to turning the top layer of your coffee into an artists canvas. I started doing latte art in 2005 and experimented with different pours and technique as it was no longer just about flavor and taste, reflects Christos. And it is mesmerizing, to say the least, to watch Christos and his top Barista, Julian Mou at work. Christos is now filtering his knowledge, skills and experience into the Caf and together with longtime friend Maria Simeon the pair is offering Darwin something different topped with good service. And, Maria believes its the best decision she has ever made. I absolutely love it here alongside the breezeway. So, why wouldnt you want a coffee from ardent owners who have such a positive attitude, feed life into their business and care about their product? Were consistent with our service, coffee and food and our prices are very reasonable, adds Christos. It comes naturally to us to function as a friendly team thats efficient so theres minimal wait for our customers. Making coffee to customers preferences is our main priority and we also offer an extra shot, complimentary, for their caffeine fix, assures Christos who also emphasizes Cafe Del Art is the first in Darwin to use Bonsoy, a premium soymilk used by leading Baristas. Cafe Del Arts choice in coffee is exceptionally diverse introducing Royal Blends and International Single Origins. This gives people something different to try each month from Honduras, Costa

Rica to Diablo Honey Nectar, prides Christos. The Cafes fascinating cold drip coffee tower also offers a refreshing alternative to the Darwin tropics served as a Freddo, a black cold drip coffee topped with textured cold milk, a Nero, which is straight black cold drip coffee on ice or as a Frappe, a textured cold drip coffee with or without milk and sugar. Other deliberate taste bud enticers are Cafe Del Arts Iced Latte with its dusting of cinnamon and the homemade Chai Latte. But, why not ask for a Dirty Chai if youre feeling adventurous or a robust glass of Fresh Lime Iced Tea to quench your Territory thirst. With years of combined experience, the Cafe Del Art team settles for nothing less than a menu thats good to grab and go and yet still looks and tastes good, insists Chef of 15 years Marty West, the big-grinned man responsible for creating Cafe Del Arts perfect poached eggs who wont serve anything I wont eat myself . Chef Martys all-day breakfast and lunch menu boasts some signature dishes such as Avocado Smashed on Turkish toast with crumbled feta, his secret Lamb Kofta recipe or Portuguese Chicken dosed with superb homemade flavours. When clients open the door to Kerrys Massage they know one thing for certain, they will be treated by one of the best, an expert. Pei Zhao (Kerry) is approaching her second decade in remedial massage and gained every ounce of knowledge and skill in her craft from one of the most revered men in China. Sun Mao Cais skills remain at the highest echelon of traditional Chinese medicine. His gifted student, Kerry, trained with the highly respected physiotherapist for many years, became a qualified remedial massage therapist and acupuncturist through the Qingdao College of Chinese Medicine and 15 years later created Kerrys Massage; four well patronised, massage centres from Humpty Doo to Millner. Eradicating peoples pain is what fuels Kerrys thriving business and she accomplishes this on an hourly basis with the help of 15 staff every single day, except December 25. Remedial massage is her speciality and she thoroughly understands the human body intricately and has mastered the acute ability to access the bodys pressure points. The most common complaints and frustrations that Kerry hears from a number of her clients is the dreaded back, shoulder and neck pain; a condition many of us suffer but tend to ignore, endure and accept as a normal part of our lives. Others of us have tried and tested remedies that have hit the hip pocket hard or have been costly, mentally. When there is pain there is not only physical discomfort, the emotional wear and tear can

erode the most robust of mindsets. Some people who decided to seek Kerrys help are walking examples of why Sun Mao Cais teachings have given Kerry the vehicle to change lives. A woman in her late 40s who worked as a receptionist and sat at a computer all day had three car accidents here in Darwin, shares Kerry. It was just astonishing to hear this but she came to me when I first started the centre in Palmerston in 2012 and saw me every week. She was tired and wasnt walking properly and hunched over. Now she visits the centre once every two weeks and is much better and often says she feels like a new woman because her pain is significantly less. One of the most heart breaking stories Kerry has even encountered was of a 55-year old man who came to see her almost in tears and with the fear of being crippled. He was at work one day and lifted some heavy timber and pinched a nerve and was incapacitated for three days, remembers Kerry. He was so worried he was going to become physically handicapped and was, naturally, extremely distressed. I made a special Chinese medicine paste and applied it to his back and after a few days he was walking around just as he did before the incident and as you can imagine was overwhelmingly relieved. Even helping youngsters (aged 10 and older) with sports injuries has allowed Kerry to share her expertise further. One girl who is about 15 and plays soccer regularly comes to our centre every two weeks with her sore and tight legs and at the end of every appointment she turns to me and thanks

me for my magic hands, says Kerry, who is constantly furthering her own skills and training every couple of months at the Australian Traditional Medicine Society. Its very rewarding to help children too and teach them about looking after their bodies, she adds. Kerrys advice is given generously to all her clients, no matter what age or ailment. I share with people how they can relieve their pain themselves with special exercises and some I also give Chinese herbal creams and oils to assist their recovery and rehabilitation, adds the woman who is booked out almost every hour across Darwin. And for tho
