It is the clear ambition of the Danish government, and me personally, to help develop and expand commercial rela-tions with the most important growth markets of today and tomorrow. Indo-nesia is such a country. Indonesia has shown impressive and stable growth for the past several years, and this seems certain to continue. Some say that in a matter of just a few decades Indonesia will be among the 10 largest economies in the world.

The Danish government is unflinching in its wish to support and encourage Danish export in the best way possible, and especially to markets where the potential is apparent and in some cases unfulfilled.

In Indonesia, Danish export is yet to follow fully in the footsteps of those from our neighbouring countries, such as Sweden and Germany. If we were at the same relative level as these coun-tries our export to Indonesia would be tripled. There is in other words poten-tial for more and scope for improvement if we work together to further Danish interests. It is my firm belief that this business delegation to Indonesia will be a fruitful experience for the participating companies - and it will signal the start of a concerted effort over the coming years to strengthen and expand our commer-cial foothold in Indonesia.

Denmark and Danish companies have a lot to offer - also to Indonesia. There seems to be an excellent match between what Indonesia seeks, and what Danish companies can offer. Whether it is as-sistance on infrastructure, green energy solutions or consumer items, Denmark

and Indonesia present an unfulfilled potential to mutual benefit. The Danish government is keen on realising this po-tential. And it is for exactly this reason that the Government - at the time of this visit - is launching a designated ‘Growth Market Strategy’ for Indonesia, which will guide the work of the Embassy, the Trade Council as well as colleagues in other Ministries in Denmark as they seek to strengthen our relationship with this fascinating country.

As the Minister for Trade and Invest-ment, it is hardly surprising that I believe that free trade is the way forward for the world today. These years the EU is working with Indonesia with the aim to launch negotiations on a Comprehen-sive Economic Partnership Agreement, which will entail a free trade agreement between Indonesia and the EU. This is another reason why the time is ripe. Danish companies participating in the delegation and deciding to explore the potential in Indonesia will have the opportunity to get a vital head start on some of their European competitors.

Expanding and developing our relation-ship and our trade with Indonesia is not done with a single visit. This is only the beginning. It will take hard work and dedication over the coming years. As the Minister for Trade and Investment, I am eager to get going and to get down to business.

Pia Olsen DyhrMinister for Trade and Investment

Foreword by Minister for Trade and Investment, Pia Olsen Dyhr

  • Danish Business Delegationo Indonesia, 3-5 March 2013 / 8 9 / Danish Business Delegation to Indonesia, 3-5 March 2013

Welcome - or ‘Selamat datang’ as we say in Indonesia.

It is a great privilege to welcome the Minister for Trade and Investment, Pia Olsen Dyhr, and the business delegation to Indonesia.

This is a country where developments are rapid and exciting and where opportunities are unfolding quickly these years. Several Danish companies are already taking advantage of this, but many are yet to explore the enormous potential here in the heart of South East Asia. As the Indonesian middle class expands and as massive public and private investments are being planned, opportunities are out there waiting to be seized. Jakarta may be infamous for its traffic, but I tend to say that if you were to walk the streets of Jakarta blindfold-ed, chances are that you will bump into either a mall or a construction site. The economy is literally growing before our very eyes.

Indonesia and Denmark have much to offer each other, and growing trade and investment will also serve to bring our countries closer together. Even if we are two very different countries, this is a source of complementarity and collabo-ration. In Indonesia there is a saying, which encapsulates this philosophy, and it goes “asam di gunung, garam di laut bertemu dalam satu belanga” - meaning ‘tamarind from the mountain and salt from the sea meet in one cooking pot’.

It is my strong belief that Danish companies will find great opportunity here, where their unique capabilities, knowhow and experience are highly sought after. With almost 250 mil-lion people and annual growth rates in excess of 6% follows of course also challenges, but these are challenges that Danish companies can overcome - as already demonstrated by a string of Danish companies, which have success-fully established themselves in Indone-sia.

With the new ‘Growth Market Strategy’ for Indonesia as a guide the Embassy in Jakarta will work hard to further strengthen, deepen and broaden the ties between Denmark and Indonesia. And we will do so together with colleagues and partners in Danish ministries and institutions across a field of sectors and themes.

The Danish companies and institutions who travel with our Minister for Trade and Investment are embarking upon a promising journey, which hopefully will be rewarding in many ways. At the the Danish Embassy in Jakarta, we look forward to welcome all of you in Indo-nesia, to lead you through a tailor-made program and to work with you in the coming years and support your ambi-tions in this enormous growth market of South East Asia.

    Selamat Datang!

The Confederation of Danish Industry (DI) is a private organisation funded, owned and managed entirely by 10,000 companies within manufacturing, trade and service industry.

DI’s vision is to ensure the best possible conditions for its members to conduct business in Denmark and abroad. DI’s main tasks include policy advocacy at national and international level, membership services including collective bargaining and a strong set of interna-tional services.

DI’s member companies are united in their international view and ambition and their positive and proactive ap-proach to free trade, investment and competition. Today DI´s members employ more people outside of Denmark than within Denmark.

Denmark is a small and open economy which is integrated in the European Union and with a very large foreign trade and investment portfolio.

Denmark is consistently rated among the best countries in the world for doing business. Thus, Danish businesses are very strong and operate very interna-tionally both from their home base in Denmark and from the increasingly important production sites around the world.

DI is very experienced in working with both governmental authorities and business organisations in Indonesia. Based on many years of operations DI recognises a massive potential in Indone-sia both within the Oil & Gas Industry, within the infrastructure sector, and many other sectors.

In comparison to many of our Euro-pean neighbours, Denmark and Danish companies are yet to take full advantage of the potential and the many oppor-tunities in Indonesia. With a rapidly growing middle class, substantial invest-ments and the prospects of a free trade agreement between the EU and Indone-sia on the horizon, the time is ripe if you want to be a fast mover and seize the opportunity.

At the Embassy of Denmark in Indone-sia a dedicated team of Indonesian and Danish staff is ready to assist Danish companies and institutions with ambitions to begin or expand their internationalization process to Indone-sia. Indonesia may seem far away and challenging, but the Embassy and the Trade Council are already here and we are familiar with both the potential and the pitfalls.

We maintain a close relationship with a number of key decision makers in Indonesia and we have extensive knowledge about the cultural, political and commercial realms of the business environment in Indonesia. Whether it is information or insights on business culture, market conditions or a partner search, the Embassy will be able to help and guide you. In one of the largest and fastest growing markets in the world, you will find the combination of ex-perienced local and posted staff to be essential.

Our commercial advisers combine in-depth local knowledge and a strong Danish business network. Our advisers participate and network in important events and seminars in Indonesia, and frequently travel to Denmark to partici-

pate in business events, present and dis-cuss the possibilities in Indonesia and visit individual companies to discuss specific opportunities. Our ambition is to be the preferred first partner for Danish companies, who wish to do business in Indonesia.

We maintain a special focus on a range of sectors and Danish strongholds such as transport and infrastructure, energy and environment, design and luxury goods, food technology and health care, which are all at the very forefront of Indonesia’s rapid development. Denmark has for many years partnered with Indonesia through extensive development cooperation programs, where environment, energy and climate have been central cooperation areas. Here we continue to gain insights and experience, which can be harnessed to the benefit of Danish companies.

These years we are also aiming to in-crease our public outreach in Indonesia - and are launching a new and ambi-tious communication platform – ven-turing into the social medias, which are so popular in Indonesia. And you will find us on Twitter (both the Embassy at @DKInIndonesia and the Ambassa-dor at @DubesDenmark), on Facebook (www.facebook.com/denmarkinindo-nesia), on LinkedIn (www.linkedin.com/company/danish-embassy-in-indonesia) – and then of course on our homepage (www.indonesien.um.dk).
