The Southwestfalia Chamber of Commerce and Industry at Hagen (SIHK) is representative and administrative body as well as service enterprise.
The chamber offers i.a. entrepreneurs advice on all questions concerning foreign trade and informs about foreign markets and companies. The success of south-westfalian companies is largely based on their flexibility and exelently trained stuff. For their training they receive support from the facilities run by the chamber. The Southwestfalia region near Cologne and Frankfurt in Western Germany is home of numerous international successful middle-sized and family-owned enterprises of the local traditional branches such as facility engineering (fittings, valves, lights, switches, doorsystems, security technology), automotive components, wire drawing, cold-rolling and steel processing as well as electrotechnics and plastics processing. More than 50 % of all employed persons work in industry.

VDMA, the German Engineering Federation, represents over 3,000 mainly medium size member companies in the engineering industry, making it one of the largest and most important industrial associations in Europe. VDMA’s branch-specific associations, the general departments and regional offices compose the organi sation in order to take optimum care of its member companies. Its offices abroad in Brussels, Kolkata, Beijing, Moscow and Tokyo act as liaison offices and as a bridgehead for the German machine manufacturers.
