STATEMENT IN RESPONSE TO
SEALING OF BODY-CAM VIDEO
From Mark Geragos, Geragos & Geragos:
We vigorously oppose the underhanded effort of the County Attorney to have theCourt seal the body-cam video showing the cold-blooded murder of Daniel Shaver.
First, the Prosecutor refused to show the footage to the victim Laney Sweet, the
widow of Daniel Shaver, and now, without consulting the victim, went into court to hide
the footage from the public. This act is directly at odds with the Victim’s R ights under the
Arizona Constitution. The decision to seal the video is also completely contrary to the
interests and desires of Ms. Sweet, the public, and the pursuit of justice.
The request to seal the video of the murder of Daniel Shaver is, at best, grossly
hypocritical, coming at the same time a sweetheart plea deal was offered to PhillipBrailsford and at the same time the Mesa PD selectively released information and reports
to the press.
We intend to immediately file a motion with the Court to unseal the video.
