Dallas Analysis
Non-diegetic soundtrack creates tension for audience. Song is designed for an older audience, relating back and bringing memories from the original Dallas, however the younger audience too due to the new younger, sexier characters, Dallas wanting to draw in a wider range audience.
Storyline split into "snippets" to show audience different storylines throughout the soap
“thought beats” and characters to play on audiences knowledge, no need for names know
who they are, emotionally invested all need is a split second shot of their faces
15 SECONDS: The cue card "Money" is used then cutting to a shot of Bobby Ewing's son speaking to JR's son about Money and Oil. This also answers the previous dialogue of “ We let it waste everything we worked for in the past JR, and for what?”
Texan desert background for cue card
"Money" coming toward the reader in a gold font showing importance of money and power
Makes the audience feel as though money is the most important thing in the soap
18 SECONDS: The cue card “Power” cut to a shot of Bobby Ewing’s son speaking to JR’s son about “never being an Ewing”
Cue cards run throughout the trailer giving the same effect as the "Money" cue card, showing conflict, arguments and disagreements within families and making the audience feel as though the text in the cue card is the most important thing rather than family and friends
Dallas title card in gold rather than yellow/orange = wealth and power, bolder and brighter =
new
