‘Super 8’. It could be described as a modern E.T. I inserted my own style through the unpredictable lines, digital colouring and a basic pattern behind it to provide some insight to the film for those who have or haven’t seen it.

I wanted to include timeless colours which picked up on the tone of the film by giving the right amount of darkness and action as well as innocence and good.

The brief was very specific. I needed to include a portrait of the main character along with the film title. It was very much about translating your own drawing style but with a restricted template.

Time scale : one week

My research implied that this magazine takes a step further from it’s title of finding the ‘truth in movies’. Their objective is to bring together the arts through features and articles including photographers, directors and of course illustration.

Researching into the brief, I found that they had already created two of the five to choose from. I decided to produce the remaining three as I did not consider there to be a prob-lem or task as they were asking for something that already existed. It seemed that no matter how independently I tried to work from the original, the produced version would constantly be in my own and their heads too.

‘Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy’. With a piercing aesthetic in the film I tried to keep this within the portrait itself and install the subtlety into the type of the title into the background to align with the slick secrecy included in the film.

Re known for it’s beautiful, dreamy photography ‘The Tree of Life’ is a slow but deep film based upon a very personal tale.

I wanted this stripped down effect with an inkling of a deep-er layer to be portrayed by using his expression to portray a deeper story line whilst pairing it a suburban inspired naive background.
