CAR PARK FINDER APP

INTRODUCTION

Looking for parking spaces is a issue for many drivers now as resources have become more

scarce. Research from Your Cover insurance shows that we spend over 8000 hours just to

look for a carprk. So, as a solution to this problem we have developed an idea of an App that

that has the real time information of the availability of parking space in the major carparks

in the CBD and shopping areas and directs them to the nearest parking space that is

available.

3. BUSINESS SECTION

3.1 Vision

Our vision is to provide accurate and timely data for drivers and public transport takers and

help reduce the unnecessary time that is being wasted on each travel.

3.2 Industry Analysis: Transportation Software Industry

Industry: Transportation Software Industry. Software that provides information on

transportation related services.

Force: High/Low: Justification:

Buyer power: High Buyers power would be high as they could find a

various of different kinds of Apps that could help

them find a carpark in Google Play

(Play.google.com, 2014).

Supplier power: High Supplier power is high for us as we must have the

data of the parking spaces (Transport, A. 2014)

and also there are only a few internet service

providers in New Zealand to choose from.

2

3

Threat of new entrants: High It would be easy for new entrants to enter this

industry as it is low on start up cost and

developing the App does not require indepth or

time consuming research and developments, so

threat of new entrants would be high

(appdesigncompany, 2014).

Threat of substitutes: High Subsitutes for this industry could be a navigation

system (GPS) or a map as these could also guide

the drivers to the carparks. Therefore threat of

substitutes would be high.

Rivalry among existing

competitors:

High There would be quite high competition among

existing competitors as there is a lot of Apps that

are a like (Play.google.com, 2014).

Overall attractiveness of the industry: this industry is very competitive as the threat of new

entrants is high and the supplier power is high, so overall the industry is not very attractive.

3.3 Customers and Their Needs

Our target group of customers would be anyone that drives a car on a regular basis. For any

drivers they would need to find a place to park their car when they have reached their

destination, and this would be done better with less time wasted in finding an available car

park as people will become frustrated and pay less attention on the road which may be

cause more accdients on the road (Writefix.com, 2014). Therefore they will need a way to

find car park in an easier way.

3.4 The Product and Service

Our product is an App that have the real time information of the availability of the parking

space in the major carparks in the CBD and shopping areas where parking spaces tends to

3

4

be scarce. By having real time parking space information available it will prevent people

going to carparks that are already full and the time wasted for finding other parking places.

3.5 Suppliers and Partners

As our product is an App that will provide information on parking spaces, the major carparks

will be a supplier to us as we need to have the real time information on the availiablty of the

parking spaces. Another supplier could be Vodafone or Telecom (an internet service

provider) as we have a network system that receives the data from the car parks and sends

the data to App, so we will need internet to operate this.

As our App will be free to download we will most likely work with other companies and have

their advertisement in our App, so any other companies that would want to have their

advertisement in our App could be a potential partner to us as we will receive revenue and

they will have their product or service advertised. Another partner could be App store

(Apple) or Google Play (Android) as we need customer to have access to it and App store or

Google Play will have more variety of Apps.

3.6 Strategy: Cost Leadership

Our customer could be anyone that drives a car or need to find a parking space so we have a

realtively board market. Our App will be free of charge for anyone to download it from the

App store or Google play so it is low cost.

The overall strategy is therefore Cost leadership.

3.7 Value Chain Activity: Deliver the Product or Service

The most important value chain activity for this business is deliver the product or service.

As our vision is to provide our customers with accurate and timely data so the deliver of the

data or information on car park availability would be the most important value chain activity

to us and adds the most value to our App.

3.8 Business Processes

3.8.1. INFORMATION PROCESSING PROCESS – real time information of parking

availability from the sensors on the ground of the car parks will be sent to the database and

the information will be then sorted and sent to what the App user ask or enquire.

5

6

3.8.2. PRODUCT MAINTENANCE PROCESS – this process is used to detect the error or faults in the software program that could be delaying the information being transferred and identifying what the problem is, then having the IT department fixing the problem.

6

7

3.9 Functionalities

3.9.1. INFORMATION PROCESSING PROCESS

Have sensors at each parking space to capture data. Sends the most updated data to the App users when they refresh the App.

3.9.2. PRODUCT MAINTENANCE PROCESS

Have feedback function within the App for any problems or suggestions to improve the App.

Have notification function to inform the users of updates.

3.10 Systems

3.10.1. DATA CAPTURING SYSTEM – this system is used to capture the data of the

current state of the car park (if it is being used or empty), so that real time information

could be collected and provided to the App user.

3.10.2. CUSTOMER FEEDBACK ANALYSIS SYSTEM - the feedbacks or suggestions from

the App user will be analysed and used to make further improvements or fix any faults of

the software and maintian customer satifaction.

3.10.3. SOFTWARE MANAGEMENT SYSTEM- this system is used to manage and update

the software so that any problems with the application will be resolved and then updated

for the users to guarantee the program operates smoothly.

CONCLUSION

Our software is aimed to provide the most accurate and timely information for drivers on

the availibility of car parks near them, so it would be less stressful to find a parking space.

The part that creates the most value for our orgainsiation is the collection of the data and

updating our customers with real time information. Without the use of information systems

and IT our software will not be able to operate as it will be very difficult or impossible to

collect the data, and also having the data to be in real time. Therefore, the use of

information systems and IT is the key to success for our organisation.
