D1: Explain how an organisation could improve the quality of its business

information justifying each of their recommendations.

Data administration will be informing the developers if data is already stored on the system and any

old data which is not required and over certain time should delete and be taken of the system as it

could cause disruption. Redburn College could improve the quality of its business information by

having a stronger personal involvement by management and proving a High-level leadership for data

quality. All the data on the system should be checked and unrequired details like courses which

dont exist should be taken off the system. Data cleansing should be used consistently at Redburn

College as it will keep the system up-to-date and will get rid of dirty data and this will improve the

quality data added to system as it will be accurate and suited to the college environment. Data

quality when mentioned people usually think of error-free data entry. It is true that sloppy data

entry habits are often the culprit, but data quality is also affected by the way we store and manage

data. The Data quality at Redburn college should be check so that no sloopy data entry are made and

the system has no mistakes made in the data entry proses during enrolment for new students

details like adding the wrong address. Adding incorrect data For example, a month must be in the

range of 112, or a persons age must be less than 130. Correctness of data values can usually be

programmatically enforced with edit checks and by using lookup tables. To makes sure there is no

incorrect data is added the system there should be programs in place to make restriction as I have

described in the above example. Inconsistent datauncontrolled data redundancy results in

inconsistencies. Every organization is plagued with redundant and inconsistent data. This is

especially prevalent with customer data. For example, a customer name on the order database

might be "Mary Karlinsky," the same name on the customer database might be "Maria Louise

Karlinsky," and on a downstream customer-relationship, decision-support system the same name

might be spelled "Mary L. Karlynski. This shows an example of inconsistent data and how this can

result at Redburn college as the student finance department take details of students and their

names which may be spelt wrong or not full name this can conclude to inconsistent date being

added as the student would not get any help with his finance to make sure this does not happen the

person who enters the data should check if this students name is available on the system and this

would ensure the student has made an mistake and can correct the name there should be policy in

place to help inconsistency at Redburn college as it will improve the quality of its business

information. The feel the key points I have described and justified on the reasonable

recommendations given in this report can be applied effectively to Redburn City College, in order to

improve the quality of business information and the consistency of the information given by the

    college.
