30 Tregarth,Machynlleth

Dear Friends,

These last eight months have been a very sad and trying time forus all in Machynlleth and the surrounding communities. Theevening of the 1st of October 2012 will stay in our memories for-ever as we remember little April; the evening that broke theheart of a family through no fault of their own. The last fiveweeks have revealed the shear horror of that night and lastThursday brought to a close one chapter of the event with aguilty verdict and life sentences for the perpetrator of this mosthorrid crime. Now we must move on to the next chapter; a time of reflection, atime to come to terms with what has happened in our town andto our town and a time of healing. The media have gone and weare left in peace to grieve for a beautiful little girl and to continueto support her family and Mark Bridger’s children in any way wecan.I am immensely proud of all the people of Machynlleth, of yourdignity and strength in such an awful situation and am privilegedto minister to you as your parish priest.

The words of Psalm 27 have been a great help to me:

1. The Lord is my light and my salvation – whom then shall I fear?2. The Lord is the stronghold of my life – of whom shall I be afraid?5. For in the day of trouble he will keep me safe in his dwelling; he will hide me in the shelter of his tabernacle and set me high upon a rock.

May you all feel God’s love and compassion in the days andmonths ahead.

Kathleen

I have been privileged to receive an invitation to the Queen’s60th Anniversary Coronation Service at Westminster Abbey onthe 4th of June. What an honour and, needless to say, I am veryexcited about it! I’ll tell you all about it in next month’s issue. At the end of June I will be away from the parish for 10 dayssoaking up the sun and I ask you to please take note of thechanges to services in Machynlleth for the last two Sundays ofthe month. While I’m away please contact your Church Wardensor the Area Dean, the Revd Roland Barnes (01650 531650).

As part of our efforts to move to a Ministry Area we would like toform one Magazine (Newsletter) for the Deanery as a form ofdisseminating information, sharing our news and advertising ourvarious events around the Deanery (Ministry Area). If the Minis-try Area is to work – and we must make every effort to make itwork – then we, as a Deanery, must become more united. In ourArea Dean’s words, “to promote our sense of unity and commonpurpose in sharing the Good News of Christ here in the Dyfi Val-ley”. Items from Bro Ddyfi Uchaf group will be included in ourMagazine from this month and the Magazine will be available inthe whole Deanery. If anyone has any items from any of the par-ishes they would like included each month, please let myself orMr Clive Thomas know. For this project to succeed we need a small editorial team – may-be one person from each church to work with Mr Clive Thomas inthe production of the magazine – new blood with new ideas! Howoften you meet during the month would be up to “the team”.Please will you think seriously about this and let me know.

Heavenly Father, we dislike the thought of change, we resist theidea of it, even when we know, deep down, that change mustcome.Let us be open to your call; let us feel your Spirit strengtheningus for what lies ahead. Change we must, Lord, give us the cour-age to do it. Though Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

My apologies, I omitted Mr Tony Jones and Mrs Evelyn Jones’names from the list of PCC members in last month’s magazine. Afull list of Councillors is available from the Parish Office.

St Peter’s Spring Walks.

As the old saying goes “fortune favours the brave” and whilst thisdedicated group of walkers gathered outside St Peter’s church readyfor our May walk the heavens opened, but guess what? A few milesdown the road it had stopped raining and the sun decided to showit’s face now and then, and as the morning gathered pace so theweather actually got better. We where rewarded with some wonder-ful views overlooking Aberystwyth and beyond, and in fact the wholeof the Cardigan Bay. The added bonus due to the lateness of Springwas a walk through the bluebells in the wood.

Our next walk will be on Sat 22nd June leaving St Peter’s Church at09:30 am. It is aptly named the “Precipice Walk” near Dolgellau(OSSH 746212). It si a easy to follow 4 mile walk, with outstandingviews over the Mawddach valley and estuary to the west and Coed yBrennin and Cader Idris range to the east. As per usual a packedlunch is required, and dependant on numbers lifts might be required. For further details contact [email protected]
