We are delighted to invite you to participate in ‘Laryngology 2016, Cutting Edge Laryngology for the Twenty First Century’. This fourth annual meeting will be held over three days at the The Royal College of Surgeons of England, London on 5-7 October 2016. The scientific programme will be made up of lectures, instructional sessions and hands-on practical sessions, as well as industry sponsored satellite symposia, and will provide an opportunity for otolaryngology consultants and senior trainees, thoracic surgeons, interventional respiratory physicians and speech and language therapists to learn of the latest developments in this rapidly changing and expanding field.

Laryngology continues to be the pace-setter in Otolaryngology. Whether it be in the revolutionary change to in-office working, application of disruptive technologies or translational research, laryngologists across the globe are the first to see the future structure of healthcare.

Cutting Edge Laryngology 2016 continues our previous celebrations of innovation in our wonderful field, and draws once again upon those who are really pushing the boundaries. There will be talks from inspiring leaders in fields including airway reconstruction and tissue engineering, revolutionary approaches to dysphagia and voice care, and a special session devoted to the most cutting-edge of speech and swallowing therapy. Practical sessions as before will introduce participants to the latest office procedures, and videos to OR advances.

Our Faculty are raring to go, and will fire your imagination and change your practice and research. We guarantee.

The BLA is committed to supporting the exchange of knowledge in all aspects of diseases of the throat and to promote the highest standards of research, education and training, disease prevention and patient care, and one of the ways we achieve this is through our annual international conference. Since its inception in 2012, the BLA has continued to evolve, with steady increase in membership and an increasingly impressive portfolio of educational events. Currently the BLA has 235 Members, 207 UK and 28 Overseas. The breakdown of UK Membership is as follows: 80 Full, 78 Associate (healthcare professionals with an interest in laryngology, including Speech and Language Therapists) and 49 Trainee Members.

We particularly appreciate that industry has a very substantial part to play in the advances in laryngology. Our discipline has a long and important relationship in the technological and therapeutic aspects of industry and we wish to promote this relationship on a more regular and scientific basis, enabling the development and use of future products. We truly intend to be proactive and ‘cutting-edge’ association.

We hope you will support Cutting Edge Laryngology 2016, and look forward to seeing you in London.

Best wishes

Martin Birchall Guri Sandhu

Sue JonesSue Jones is Head South Manchester. Sue has specialised in Clinical Voice Disorders since 1984 and now works exclusively in this field. She has been instrumental in developing the voice clinic services at UHSM and now acts and as expert advisor SLT, leading a team of voice specialists and performing/interpreting laryngeal examinations.

Her particular interests are in developing competencies for practice and in staff development in voice disorders. Sue carried out research into the relationship between severity of dysphonia and voice-related quality of life as part of a Masters Clinical Research programme at Newcastle University. This has led to further interest in and study of the perceptual analysis of voice disorders.

For the last seven years Sue has developed her skills in working with professional singers including classical, musical theatre and rock and pop genres.

Sue is an adviser to RCSLT on voice disorders and co-author of the RCSLT Position Paper on Endoscopy for Voice Disordered Patients. Sue has lectured nationally and internationally and is involved in ongoing research projects into voice disorders.

VenueCutting Edge Laryngology 2016 will take place at the Royal College of Surgeons of England, London, UK.

The Royal College of Surgeons is centrally located at Lincoln’s Inn Fields where is has been based since 1797. Today the elegant building not only represents an institution at the forefront of surgical education and training, but also serves as a conference and exhibition venue of the highest standard. It is conveniently located for delegates travelling both within the UK and from further afield being easy walking distance of two underground lines and a short taxi or underground journey from most major rail stations, including Paddington where trains run direct from Heathrow, and Victoria, the arrival point of the Gatwick Express.

A commercial exhibition will be held in conjunction with the congress, and will be open from the morning of Wednesday, 5 October until tea-time on Friday, 7 October 2016. Lunch each day and tea and coffee will be served in the exhibition hall and the scientific posters will also be accommodated within the exhibition hall in order to maximise the amount of time participants spend within this area.

Profile of attendanceAround 300 delegates are expected to attend Cutting Edge Laryngology 2016. The inaugural conference held in London in 2011 attracted almost this number of participants, and a very strong scientific and educational programme combined with the attractiveness and accessibility of London as a venue leads us to be confident of an excellent attendance at the 4th Conference.

The conference is aimed mainly at otolaryngology consultants and senior trainees but will also attract a wider audience of thoracic surgeons, interventional respiratory physicians, paediatric surgeons, interventional radiologists and speech and language therapists.

Participants at the previous Cutting Edge Laryngology Conferences in 2011, 2012 and 2013 represented a broad spectrum of the international otolaryngology community.

Conference objectives• To showcase contemporary knowledge and outline new trends in clinical practice • To provide a forum for the presentation of high-quality, original scientific research• To promote the exchange of clinical, practical and scientific information and ideas• To give delegates the opportunity to network with colleagues• To allow participants the opportunity to keep up to date with industry research and developments
