Residential Visit Our Year 5/6 pupils are very excited now they have been to their information session about the residential trip to Ambleside Youth Hostel. Please note that the final balance payments for this trip need to be in by 24th June, as school needs to pay the balance the following week. Please can you ensure that the emergency contact forms are completed and returned as soon as possible. Together we can achieve and celebrate success General News We are pleased to say that the children started the summer term with a really positive attitude towards getting down to some hard work. Thankfully Easter this year came with some decent spells of good weather so that the children could get outside more, this usually makes a difference. May we remind you that all KS2 children need to be in school on time during the week beginning Monday 11th May as this is when we will be involved in the Y6 tests and years 3,4 & 5 end of year tests in English and Maths. Don’t forget to look out for our Leeds Half Marathon team of runners on the 10th May. Please see the attached sponsor form. The money raised will be split between Martin House Children’s Hospice and towards our school’s playground equipment fund. We would like to congratulate Mr & Mrs Binns and Theo on their new baby girl who was born last Friday. Leavers’ Service This year we have planned for the leavers’ service or ‘Celebration Day’ as we have now called it, to be on Friday 10th July from 2.30pm in the school hall. Everyone is welcome to come along to this special assembly. The last day of term is on Friday 17th July when the children can enjoy this day without the stress of saying their goodbyes. We hope you would like these dates for your diaries. School finishes at 3.00pm on this day. Clubs The clubs we have offered this term have been very well subscribed to. The cricket club started this week with Mr Corcoran from the Harrogate Cricket Development Scheme. His enthusiasm certainly got the children in the club actively involved in a game of cricket by the end of the session. Mr Biggs will be working on developing athletic skills in his club in readiness for our Sport’s Day on Tuesday 7th July. The gardening and computing clubs will start soon. All clubs have over 20 pupils attending them, which isn’t so bad considering we only have 50 pupils! At the end of last term the Drama club put on an amazing performance of The Tempest at Harrogate Theatre. Thank you to all parents and family members who went along to these performances. The children had a very intense day of touring the theatre, learning how to perform in costumes, on a stage and under spotlights. Curriculum Life was very busy leading up to the Easter break. Class 3 had a great day’s visit to Vindolanda and the Roman Army Museum. The class gained a good insight into how the Romans invaded and settled in England. Vindolanda was a good example of how the Roman Army adapted to our climate and organised their living accommodation. The museum there provided many examples of artefacts from their everyday lives, including a huge display of preserved original Roman sandals. The class coped very well with the long journey and were very well behaved throughout the trip. Class 2 had a very exciting Egyptian workshop at the Pump Room Museum in Harrogate. They learnt about the mummification process through a practical session using a life sized fabric mummy. They had the opportunity to handle original Egyptian artefacts and learnt about their significance. Class 1 had a great experience at Harlow Carr Gardens when they learnt how to look for signs of different types of weather and the change in seasons. We would like to thank our P.T.A. for helping us to offer these extra-curricular visits through their excellent fundraising. This term Classes 1 and 2 will be visiting Saltburn on Wednesday 24th June. Class 1 will learn about features of a seaside locality and Class 2 will explore plants growing in different habitats at Saltburn Valley Gardens.
