course. Any questions, please email Frau Poppe
If a current 6th grade student is interested
in going on the 2021 Germany Trip to

to take German in middle school) in order to be eligible for
the trip.
NOTES FROM THE SCHOOL NURSE
If your child is throwing up, run-
ning a fever over 100.° degrees, or
has diarrhea the night before or
morning of school, please keep
your child home. Your child can
return when he/she has been symptom free for 24 hours
without any fever reducing medication.
Flu season is coming. Signs: fever, cough, sore throat, head-
ache, muscle aches, and vomiting. The Flu can be spread to
others when those diagnosed with the Flu don't cover their
cough or sneeze. Flu virus can be spread to others up to 6
feet away and can live up to 48 hours on surfaces. Clean and
disinfect surfaces in high touch areas frequently; counters,
door knobs, refrigerator door pulls, etc.
Flu shots can be obtained at your pediatrician/doctor, local
pharmacy, or the Spartanburg Health Department.
All 6th graders will need to get the Tdap vaccine before
starting 7th grade. This immunization is given around 11
years old. Your pediatrician/doctor, or Spartanburg Health
Department can administer them. Please inquire at your
child's next well-child visit or check-up appointment. Send
in your child's documented Tdap Immunization form to the
school for your child's records to be updated.
Your “one stop shop” for all news and
information related to D5 schools is available
on this one App. Access by searching
Spartanburg District 5 Schools through App
and Google Play Stores. From this App you can access the
Powerschool Portal, pay lunch fees, see calendars, access
Schoology, etc.
Box Tops for Education
Keep clipping and bringing in those box tops to earn money
for our school!
The next collection date is February
27. The winner in 5th ad 6th grade from each class by these
dates will win a pizza party. All classes who have over 500 box
tops will receive a sweet treat! Instructions: Be sure box tops
are trimmed up, not expired and on a sheet OR in a bag of 50.
If you do not have exactly 50, please label sheet or bag with
the quantity. Also, please keep BONUS box tops separate from
other box tops.
Vote for “Teacher of the Week” Each week you can go to www.fsioffice.com to cast your
vote for Teacher o f the Week . FSI Office will give the top
10 teachers a box of office supplies.
MY ENERGY KIT
CHALLENGE - Once
again, Beech Springs is
participating in an energy
conservation program from Duke Energy. You can
request a FREE Energy Efficiency Kit that contains
items to save energy at home (and money on your
electric bill). For every 100 requests for free kits, we
will automatically win $250! There can only be one kit
issued per household, so please make students aware
that if they have siblings, only one will be issued. But,
they can always encourage other relatives and friends to
request one and give credit to our school.
Also, if they have requested a kit before, they may not
be able to receive one this year due to the policy of only
being able to receive a kit every 36 months. Even so, we
encourage EVERYONE to request a kit because the
request will still count towards our 100! Go to the link
MyEnergyKit.org or call the hotline at 1-855-386-9548.
Beta Club Induction Tuesday, Feb. 4th at 6:00 pm
D5 Fine Arts Center
Qualifying students will receive membership
details from their homeroom teachers.
The National Beta club recognizes high academic achievement, promotes character and social responsibility, encourages service involvement to school and community, fosters leadership skills, and provides settings for your child to develop interpersonal relationship skills.
Membership is determined by grades earned during the first and second nine weeks of the school year. Your child earned all A's on their report cards or they had all A’s, with the exception of one B. To maintain their membership, they must continue to earn all A’s, with the exception of only one B, each nine weeks. If they receive two or more B’s, they will be on academic probation for nine weeks, with the assumption that they will pull that grade up to an A on their next report
card.
