Looking for the positive? Has anyone a story to tell, a prayer to share, an idea

to assist, a saying to contribute, even a joke to tell in these times. It would be a shame not to look for

that silver lining! Please share it and we’ll put it in the newsletter to help others..

Trivia Q’s: 1. I am the seed described as smaller than all the others but becomes greatest. 2. I am the festival that Jesus & his family regularly went to at Jerusalem. 3. I am the name of Joseph's hometown. 4. I am the number of days of temptation Jesus endured in the wilderness.

May 17, ’20: 6th Sun of Easter (1 Peter 3:17) "For it is better to suffer for doing good, if that be God’s will, than for doing evil.”

The old line says “if you want to make God laugh, tell him your plans.” Many of us are diligent in our planning & making sure things are

progressing smoothly. Then disaster strikes, we don’t get the result that was intended or an unforeseen problem arises. Many times we may

respond negatively and ask, “Why me? I did everything right!” Here’s the thing – adversity

humbles us and reminds us of our dependence on God and not on our own self-reliance. Rest assured, God has a better plan in store for you.

6th Sunday in Easter Reflection: For the past 5 weeks we, the long baptised & the newly baptised, have been relishing life in the Spirit. The gift of the Spirit is made more explicit today. We hear of unexpected outpouring of the Spirit as recorded in the Acts of the Apostles, & we are reminded of Jesus promising the Advocate, the Spirit of truth, to his disciples on the night before he died. There’s even a passing reference in 1 Peter to the Spirit in whom Christ “was raised to life.” All this helps make us more aware of the work of the Spirit in each one of us & in the Church at large. For too long in Western Church the Holy Spirit was the “forgotten person” of the Trinity. More & more we are rediscovering the Spirit in dialogue with Eastern Churches; their rich tradition is steeped in the Spirit. We in the West now have the opportunity to come to a new level of Spirit-awareness, not just during the Eastertide but throughout the year. Even though we cannot see Jesus, we can experience his presence in many different ways. The Spirit is at work in the world, bringing love, joy, kindness, patience & gentleness. The main message in today’s gospel is to love Jesus and to do as he commands. What does love look like, feel like & sound like?

Ever present God, Be with us in our isolation,

Be close to us in our distancing,

Be healing in our sickness, Be light in our

darkness, Be wisdom in our confusion,

Be all that is familiar when all is unfamiliar,

that when the doors reopen we may, with the zeal of Pentecost inhabit our communities & speak of your goodness to an emerging world. Amen.
