Project Content

Curiosity-Creativity-Competence

The Comenius Multilateral Project ´Curiosity-Creativity-Competence´ addressed teachers and

students aged 13 to 19, who are especially gifted in certain areas. By providing alternative

settings for learning we tried to satisfy pupils´ curiosity about various phenomenons. We

motivated students to give and achieve their best in the field they showed special talent in. We

provided two courses for teachers in Austria and Poland in which teachers learned methods

how to support talented students in class and in extracurricular lessons. Teachers were trained

in how to identify talents and in certain methods they could apply when dealing with talents.

We did a survey about methods used to support talents in all participating schools. The project

partners organized workshops both at a local and at an international level to attract the interest

and to provide opportunities to collaborate for the identified talented students. By organizing

workshops we inspired the creativity of the students in tackling a certain task and at the

international meetings they proved their new learned competences. The workshop contents

were: ancient history and UNESCO world heritage, the year 1989 in our families, towns,

countries and in Europe, economy of the areas we live in and the situation of youth

employment, the universal language of music - performing in an international concert, fine

arts and its relevance for understanding one another, creative writing about hopes and fears

for the future of young people in Europe, The Olympic idea and fighting xenophobia,

alternative energy production and exploring water pollution. Methods used were hands on

experiments, doing research in libraries and on the internet, interviewing experts, family

members and time witnesses, providing topic related lessons in the English language,

rehearsing music and performing on stage, looking at famous art and learning different

techniques of artistic expression, expression of feelings in a foreign language and creative

writing, interpreting statistical data and learning presentation methods as well as combining

practical work with intellectual output. By doing so we increased the students´ abilities of

problem solving and overcoming general social challenges, like xenophobia.

Project Activities The participating schools organized teacher training in how to support talented students in

Wels, Austria and in Gilowice, Poland. Furthermore they organized local workshops for

students in the subjects History, Geopgraphy and Economics, Computer Studies, Languages,

Natural Sciences, Fine Arts and Music. Methods were trained in these local workshops and

afterwards there were international workshops with presentations and international topic

related activities. These international meetings were also used to give public presentations and

inform the press about the project. After the meetings results were also presented in Project

Newspapers and most importantly in the Methods´ Booklet.

Student´s Feedback - Example

Before the COMENIUS Project, I hadn’t a colorful plan for college as I do now. This project

also makes you ready for a trip to abroad. It gives you the confidence of talking and

practising the main language. I hadn’t any idea about abroad projects and foreign colleges

before this trip. It helped me to decide take part in other projects and have a second college in

a foreign country. The connection I made with my host is too strong that we think being

housemates in university. If you are lucky, you can have one of the best weeks of your life, as I

Comenius Projesine Katılmadan Önceki Düşüncelerim When I joined to comenius Project , my purposes were practising English and finding out

about culture of the student I stayed with. I thought spending a week with people from

different geographics was a different and educating oppurtinty that maybe I could never get

again. I joined the Comenius Project with these thoughts

Comenius Projesine Katıldıktan Sonraki Düşüncelerim Comenius Project gave me a lot more experience than I thought. I saw a lot of people from

different countrys and I learned about their similarities and their differences. I learned

different cultures and some of them inspired me a lot. This Project helped me to take big

decisions in my life and became one of the biggest factors which affecting my life.

In days from 10th to 14th of the year 2014 we participated in international project Comenius, which took part in Kisvárda, Hungary. Its main topic was environment, indicating air pollution with lichens to be exact. We did some research and prepared our own powerpoint presentations. Our high school was represented by six girls from second grade and two boys from fourth grade led by our headmaster Mgr. Švadlenová and our biology teacher Mgr. Dvořák. We left Czech Republic very soon in the morning because we had a very long and tiring journey in front of us. (more than 14 hours)

So on Monday we hit the road at 5:45 a.m. We had to stop in Linz to pick up our „colleagues“ and then we couldn´t miss a walk in the capital city: Budapest. It was the first time we met our hosts and friends from other participating countries. It was already 6 p.m. and it was very foggy when we left Budapest and when we got to Kisvárda it was 9 p.m. (Kisvárda lies near Ukrainian borders). After greeting our hosts and giving them some presents we immediately fell asleep. Although we ere just sitting during the journey to Hungary it was pretty exhausting

The other day we experienced how kind and hospitable Hungarian families are. We all had delicious large breakfasts and a nice chat with our host´s parents. The snacks they gave us for the day became legendary. We were usually given few baguettes, fruits, candies and drinks in such quantity it would do for a whole week. Then we headed to beautiful school of Kisvárda. It´s quite a big building and we were astonished by its history and facilities. After introductory speech of the deputy director we entered their laboratory where we presented our work. After that we experienced some remarkable chemical experiments, for example making a little rainbows in test-tubes. In the evening they taught us national dances and served us typical Hungarian food.

On Wednesday we visited zoological garden in Nyíregyháza and then we went to thermal spa. It was amazing. The Zoo was pretty big and really nice. What surprised us were some signs written in Slovakian language. It enabled learning about the animals with no problems. After that we bought some souvenirs, ate some food and talked with other students.

On Thursday we had so much to do that we almost didn´t make it. But we did and it was worth it. We visited the city hall where we presented some projects again. Then we got some presents to remember Kisvárda, we visited ruin of a castle, took last group photos, ate some awesome pancakes and then we visited old Jewish synanogue which is now a museum of Jewish life and history. For it was the last day, our Hungarian friends set up a little goodbye party. It was the icing on the cake.

The Big C – Creativity

The seventh meeting within “Curiosity, Creativity, Competence” project was held in Reggio

Emilia (Italy) in March, 2015. The main scope of interests revolved around creative writing

and the topic for students’ presentations was “Our Hopes and/or Fears”.

The Polish representatives were three girls from grade two (aged 18): Kinga Niesyto, Patrycja

Rom and Paulina Siuta. They decided to concentrate on the first aspect of the topic.

Teachers:

Six weeks before the meeting the girls conducted a survey among the students of Secondary

School in Gilowice, asking three questions:

1. What were your hopes while coming to our school?

2. Which of them have been fulfilled (e.g. safety, atmosphere, friends, level of

knowledge etc.)?

3. Which of them have not been fulfilled?

Next, they prepared a full analysis of the results. The next step was to make a presentation

that would comment on the results shown in pie-chart graphs. The girls also added some

photos and short films of their fellow students, which made the talk witty and lively.

The final stage of their project was to write a story about a fictional student of the school in

Gilowice. The plot focused on the hopes and expectations described by the students

interviewed in the survey.

Both the presentation and the story were performed in front of all the other participants of the

meeting and were awarded a cheery ovation.

Meeting Rhodos, Greece

Project meeting in Greece: Rhodos 4. - 10. October

Participants: Vašek Hron, Petr Milichovský, Ota Podlipný Expedition of our school took place on the Rhode island in Greece from 4. to 10. October.

Our trip began at the Prague airport, from where we flew to our target destination. After

landing in Greece we met families and teachers who welcomed us in a friendly way.

Monday was the first day of our stay. In local guest school (7. High school Rhodes) they

organised for us several sport activities. Students played football, volleyball and some other

sport activities, which required cooperation. In the afternoon the participants of the whole

Comenius project went to discover beautiful sights of the capital city. Our tour around the city

began in the port then we went along medieval fortification and we finished our tour in

aquarium.

Tuesday was very busy and exhausting. Students prepared a suprise-show off for teachers and

after that we presented our project about Olympic games.Václav, Petr and Ota prepared

presentation about the participation of Czech republic in Summer Olympic games in London

2012 and in Sochi 2014. Everything went without a single problem and the presentation was

rewarded with a big applause. In the afternoon we went to the ancient athletic stadium and

Acropolis.

Wednesday was again filled with sport activities,thestudents were divided in several mixed

teams and they competed in couple disciplines. In the afternoon we went again to the capital

city Rhodos. It was a little long, but it was worth it.

Thursday was the last day of our stay. We went to a beautiful city Lindos. This city is well

known mainly for its temple and for a lot of souvenir stands. The view from the ruins of the

temple was priceless. After the return from our trip to Lindos we packed our baggage and in

the evening Greeks made a final farewell evening which contained samples of typical Greek

dances. Everything was followed of course by good atmospehere and delicious food. One

saying says that „Everything should end at its best“, so we stood by it and we flew off back

to the Czech republic. It was a great experience for us. We have made new friends and had

opportunity to learn new country and its customs.

Meeting Finland

Musik Workshop in Finnland im September 2014

Zwei Schülerinnen ( 6S und 6B) und zwei Schüler (4B) des BRG Wallererstraße nahmen im Rahmen des

Comenius-Projekts „Curiosity–Creativity–Competence“ in Närpes, Finnland an einem von ihren beiden

Musikprofessorinnen, Mag. Heide Mayr und Mag. Jitka Koprivova, geleiteten Musik-Workshop teil. Gemeinsam

mit Schülerinnen und Schüler aus Finnland, Griechenland, Italien, Litauen, Polen, Tschechien, der Türkei und

Ungarn wurde zweieinhalb Tage intensiv zu folgenden Themen gearbeitet:

- Volkslieder aus den teilnehmenden Nationen in der jeweiligen Sprache

- Volkstänze

- Body Percussion

- Samba Rhythmen mit Alltagsgegenständen

Neben den Workshops wurde auch ein Ausflug zu einer nahe gelegenen Schule mit eigenem Tonstudio gemacht.

Dort durften wir hautnah bei Studioaufnahmen dabei sein.

Den Ausklang des Workshops bildete das gemeinsame Konzert Donnerstagabend, welches mit der Aufführung

der Europahymne beschlossen wurde. Am Freitag fand sich noch etwas Zeit für eine kurze Besichtigung

Helsinkis bevor es dann abends wieder zurück in die Heimat ging.

Mag. Mayr und Mag. Koprivova sind sehr stolz auf die musikalischen Leistungen insbesondere der vier

Jugendlichen unserer Schule und möchten sich auf diesem Wege noch einmal ganz herzlich für die angenehme

Zusammenarbeit bedanken.

Meeting Vilnius

Comeniusprojekt Curiosity-Creativity-Competence - Vilnius

Im Zuge des EU Projekts Curiosity-Creativity-Competence besuchten die Klassen 5A und 5B mit Mag. Asamer,

Mag. Grabner und Mag. Janke im Jänner in Wien die Ausstellungen „Warhol – Basquiat“ im Bank Austria

Kunstforum und Emil Nolde “Glut der Farbe” im Belvedere. Inspiriert von der Begegnung mit Originalen schufen

die SchülerInnen im BE Unterricht schließlich ihre eigenen Interpretationen des Gesehenen. Sie befassten sich

sowohl mit dem Expressionismus als auch mit Pop Art. Interessant war zu sehen, wie unterschiedlich die

SchülerInnen zu den Themen arbeiteten und wie sie die Inhalte in unterschiedlichsten Techniken umsetzten.

Stefan Demelbauer (5A), Maria Janjic (5A), Janika Güttler (5A) und Anna Hillinger (5B) nahmen gemeinsam mit

Mag. Asamer und Mag. Grabner am Projekttreffen in Vilnius teil und präsentierten dort ihre Arbeit und die

entstandenen Werke.

Neben einigen kulturellen Programmpunkten (Stadtbesichtigung, Royal Palace, Burg von Trakai, Kennenlernen

von litauischen Volkstänzen) bekamen die SchülerInnen die tolle Chance, in der “Art School” von Vilnius in einer

Druckwerkstatt an einem Workshop teilzunehmen, bei dem sie eine Ätzradierung anfertigen konnten.

Das Projekttreffen ermöglichte unseren SchülerInnen, sich mit Jugendlichen aus Finnland, Litauen, Tschechien,

Polen, Ungarn, Griechenland, Italien und der Türkei auszutauschen, andere Kulturen und Lebensgewohnheiten

kennen zu lernen und sogar Freundschaften zu schließen,. Der Aufenthalt in Litauen war sicher für alle eine sehr

interessante Erfahrung und große Bereicherung

Comenius : Curiosity-Creativity-Competence

2. Projekttreffen in Antalya Türkei

Im Oktober bereitete Mag. Ursula Doppelbauer vier Schüler auf das Projekttreffen in Antalya vor. Die

Schülerinnen und Schüler erforschten die antike Geschichte von Wels und hatten auch Gelegenheit mit einer

Archäologin zu sprechen.

Vom 4. bis zum 8. November nahmen Schülerinnen und Schüler aus der 5B und der 7S und Mag. Erwin

Weixlbaumer und Mag. Monika Fellinger am Projekttreffen teil. Neben vielen Gruppenarbeiten mit den

Schülerinnen und Schülern aus Finnland, Polen, Tschechien, Ungarn, Griechenland, Italien, Litauen und der

Türkei bekamen die Schüler die einmalige Chance das Pergemuseum und die antiken Stätten von Aspendos und

Side zu besuchen.

Alle Teilnehmer waren beeindruckt von der Gastfreundschaft und der Effizienz der Arbeit während des

Aufenthalts in Antalya.

Wels (Austria) W nocy z 24 na 25 kwietnia opuściliśmy nasz piękny powiat Pszczyński i udaliśmy się w

podróż do Czech. Wszyscy wygodnie usadowiliśmy się w naszych pryczach i poszliśmy spać,

ponieważ już od rana czekało na nas mnóstwo atrakcji.

Gdy dotarliśmy do Taboru, nasze nowe rodziny odebrały nasze bagaże, a nas samych posłali

na zwiedzanie ich pięknego miasta razem z innymi uczestnikami projektu. Obejrzeliśmy

panoramę

miasta, zwiedziliśmy podziemia , pochodziliśmy po średniowiecznym rynku.

Po kilku godzinach spędzonych w centrum miasta z naszymi kolegami, udaliśmy się do

Hotelu

Dvorak, w którym odbyły się prezentacje na temat upadku Żelaznej Kurtyny i wpływie tego

wydarzenia na różne kraje i ich mieszkańców.

Prezentacje dobiegły końca i nadszedł czas na poznanie naszych nowych rodzin bliżej. Część

z nas

wyszła wieczorem na miasto, a reszta oddała się błogiemu wypoczynkowi w domu.

Cały następny dzień spędziliśmy w Pradze, podziwiając jej piękno.

Poniedziałek spędziliśmy na pożegnaniu z rodzinami, krótkimi (albo i nie) prezentacjami

dotyczącymi naszych krajów w szkole, a po południu udaliśmy się do Wels – austriackiego

miasteczka, w którym zostawaliśmy.

Wtorek zaczęliśmy spacerem do Welios – niezwykłego centrum naukowego, w którym

podczas zabawy tworzy się energię! Obejrzeliśmy tam niezwykły pokaz z udziałem ciekłego

azotu

oraz nauczyliśmy się tworzyć baterie z herbaty!

Wieczorem w szkole odbyło się spotkanie podsumowujące cały projekt Comenius. Po

spotkaniu w

klasach przedstawialiśmy nasze filmiki, zdjęcia i prezentacje o naszej szkole i poprzednich

Comeniusach odbywających się z udziałem naszych uczniów.

Chłodną, lecz przyjemną środę spędziliśmy w Salzburgu zwiedzając miasto. Welios

międzyczasie wymienialiśmy się kontaktami z naszymi nowymi znajomymi z wielu krajów.

Meeting Gilovice Poland

POLAND WITH COMENIUS

Our trip began on the 17th March early in the morning, we travelled to Poland with a train. We spent in train aproximately 7 hours. In the afternoon we finally arrived, after our arrival to train station in Pszczyna we met our accomodators and we went with them to their houses. Next day we went to high school in Gilowice. We and students from another countries presented presentation mainly about unemployment and main problems in our regions and the solutions. After lunch we walked around Psczyna and we visited a museum. Next day we went to Auschwitz, we got a really detailed excursion . It was a really emotional, unforgetable and depressive experience for us. After Auschwitz we visited chemical laboratories where they research the enviromental polution. Later we visited Krakow. I must say it is a beautiful city with many historical sights and churches. We visited a colossal church on the main square and also we went there to a traditional market. On Thursday in the morning we have two lectures, the first was about working on computer with different type of averages and the second was about finding a job and writing CV. In the afternoon we went to a museum and after that we went to a Zoo. Friday was the last day of our stay in Poland, we said goodbye to our new friends from around the Europe and travelled with a train back to Czech republic. I must say that i recommend you to visit Poland, there are lot of friendly people and nice sights.

´Curiosity – Creativity- Competence´ a project to foster talents in lessons and in

extracurricular activities turned out to be very successful in many ways.

1. Impact on pupils

All participating pupils both in schools and on international meetings could live up to their

potentials. They not only trained their language competences when giving public speeches, by

writing creative stories, by living with host parents on international meetings, but also

improved their knowledge in how to conduct interviews, how to do research in libraries and

on the internet, how to do hands- on experiments in physics, chemistry and biology. Pupils

also gained a lot of knowledge how the European Union functions and learned a lot about

different cultural aspects. Furthermore their talents in using ITC and platforms were

supported. Their talents in languages, music, art, geograhpy and econmics, history, sports,

intercultural learning, maths and ITC were developed by the methods introduced by the

participating teachers.

2. Impact on teachers

All participating teachers were trained in how to support talented students when they visited

to seminars one in Wels and one in Gilowice. Then they developed a lot of very rewarding

methods to teach talented pupils. The results the pupils reached increased the teachers´

motivation and increased the achievements on the whole.

3. Impact on schools

Schools improved their standing, when it comes to talented students. By working in

international cooperation best practise examples were spread among the participating schools.

Schools also improved their reputation in the local areas as so many activities aimed at

improving pupils achievements were publicly presented and acknowledged.

4. Impact on regions

The results of the projects like cooperation with museums, experts will have a lasting impact

on how schools function. The products like the methods developed will be widely spread

among all teachers in the areas.

5. Impact on European Integration

Face to face communication and cooperation of teachers, pupils and schools has an

integrating effect as people understand each other better and prejudice can be reduced.

Furthermore school systems could learn from each other and pupils in all countries were

given the chance to live up to their potentials.
