Overview of Chavutti Uzhichil Treatment

This traditional treatment method is practiced over centuries and passed onfrom one master to the other. This is an ancient and hereditary form oftreatment that forms a part of Marma Sikilcha such as Thirumu Vaidyam,Mudrakkai, and Meinikkai.

This treatment is appropriate for persons suffering from chronic back pain,neck pain, shoulder pain, arm and leg pain, all joints and knee pain, arthritis,spinal cord problems, disc problems and spondylosis, mental stress & tensions,aging, fractures, and so on.

Persons with sedentary style of life, who do less exercise and lead a highlystressed life, are specially recommended to undergo this treatment.

Athletes, dancers, and stage performers can also undergo this treatment, as apart of general rejuvenation of physical and mental health.

Types of Treatments

The treatment type differs, based on the health condition of a person.

The Treatment Specialist recommends the type of treatment to be provided, afteranalyzing the beneficiary’s health condition.

During the treatment, the oil is applied all over the body; the massage is doneusing legs by the Specialist holding a rope that hangs from the ceiling.

The oil needed for the massage is prepared in house with special herbs; therecipe for this oil is kept confidential and passed on through generations.

In some cases, hands are used for the massage (especially for children). Thismethod is known as Meinikkai/Mudrakkai

Specially prepared medicines are applied through Kizhi (rice husk hot pack).

After the massage, the beneficiary is required to take bath with speciallyprepared herbal powders.

Treatment Duration

A full treatment is done for 14 days with 2 massages per day. This is called ‘PoornaKriya’. It is essential for the beneficiary to follow a course of 14 more days of strictdieting period called ‘Pathiyam’.

The number of massage sessions may be increased to 5 times a day, depending on theseverity of health issues. After the treatment, the body becomes like that of a newborn baby and 14 days dieting (Pathiyam) period is necessary to re-form the bones.One is expected to follow the Pathiyam strictly to get the best results out of themassage.

Depending on the time available, one can choose 1, 3, 5, 7, and 14 days of massagetreatment. This has to be essentially followed by equal number of rest days with strictfood and behavior control, to realize full benefits. The period of Pathiyam will differ,based on the type of treatment.
