MUFTI FUNDRAISER FOR THE RED CROSS QUEENSLAND FLOODS APPEAL

Congratulations to everyone for supporting our first Mufti Day to raise funds for the Cumnock Red Cross

Queensland Floods Appeal. We are grateful to the Morse family for donating all the sausages, Donna

Strahan for organising the bread from the Manildra Flour Mill and to Kacie Herd and Sal Morse for cooking

lunch on our new school barbeque. In total $350 will be sent to our local Red Cross Branch. Well done to

you all!!

3-WAY SWIMMING CARNIVAL IN YEOVAL

It was wonderful to see many of our students from Years 2 through to Year 6 participate in the wonderful 3 –

Way Carnival in Yeoval last Tuesday. This Carnival was run to perfection by the efficient staff at St

Columbas, their hardworking P & C and the Yeoval Swimming Pool Committee. This event encapsulates

inclusive participation for all in a supportive environment. Congratulations to all our students, and well

done to Zali Armstrong: Senior Girl Champion, Emily Strahan: Senior Girl Runner-Up, Macey Armstrong:

Junior Girl Champion, Kiera Strahan: Junior Girl Runner-Up and Junior Boy Runner-Up: Charlie O’Brien. We

appreciated the many parents and grandparents who cheered at this event and to the following

students: Trey Barnett, Oscar Gant-Drady, Ollie Horkings, Sienna Lewis, Brock Hoswell-Parsons and Milly

Rodwell who took to the water with great success in the 25 metre races. Great work Cumnock!

PAINTING OF STAFF ROOM

Maintenance work has commenced with the painting of the staff room and the

toilet block and the students have been very sensible around the scaffolding on

site. We thank Matt McNiven from JOSS and Julie Balcombe from the Asset

Management Unit for driving these works. We look forward to the new colour

scheme and adding signage to acknowledge the heritage of our smaller one

teacher schools that dotted our landscape. The staff room was relocated here

from the locality of Eurimbla and is the original Eurimbla Provisional School. Mr Jim

Murray attended the school on horseback each day from 1935 until he went to

Orange High School as a boarder. He has many fond memories of his school life

and can impart some fascinating stories around life as a student in the early days.

The Eurimbla Provisional School was in operation from 1924 until 1940 and was

finally relocated to the present site in 1956 to accommodate increasing

enrolments. In that year there were 100 students attending Cumnock Public

School!

CUMNOCK P & C WELCOME BARBEQUE AND AGM

Thank you to our dedicated P & C for providing a special barbeque to welcome all our new and old

Canteen Co-Ordinators: Ray & Nic Lewis

We would like to thank Scott and Kelly Gibson and family for their outstanding contributions to our school

works and fundraising opportunities in 2019.

DONNA RILES FROM THE ORANGE REGIONAL CONSERVATORIUM

Welcome back to Donna Riles and a huge vote of thanks for her enthusiasm and dedication to support

our musical program at Cumnock Public again in 2019. We appreciate her efforts and commitment to

ensure our OSSA network of schools has equal musical opportunities through the Orange Regional

Conservatorium. We welcomed Mrs Riles for her first musical treat with the support from our SLSO, Mrs Susan

Turner in Week 3.

SPARKE, formerly known as PRE2, is a collaborative approach to enhancing learning across member

schools which embraces 21st century technologies, offering enriched curriculum practice, learning

excursions and pedagogy within our primary classrooms. This allows our staff to connect with colleagues

across the Orange network and surrounding region to engage in Professional Learning opportunities after

school on a wide range of subjects. Thank you to the organising schools and staff who prepare a wide

range of opportunities for our colleagues each term.

NSW HEALTHY SCHOOL CANTEEN STRATEGY

Sarah McKay from NSW Health visited our school to meet with our Canteen Managers, Nic and Ray Lewis

to discuss our new-look menu. We are delighted that our menu received a positive response from Sarah,

who supports schools to ensure that menus across the region meet the NSW Healthy Schools Canteen

Strategy. Our menu adheres to the 75:25 ratio of everyday and occasional foods. In a nutshell, Nic and Ray

received a $500 House voucher to purchase new kitchen and cooking equipment for our canteen as a

result of their dedication to meet the guidelines. The next step will be certification from the NSW School

Canteen Menu checking service. CONGRATULATIONS Nic and Ray for your tenacity and commitment to

develop and implement such an outstanding menu for our school!

SPECIAL ICON ASSEMBLY WITH DIRECTOR, EDUCATIONAL LEADER, MR CHARLES DWYER

We will welcome our Mitchell Director for Educational Leadership, Mr Charles Dwyer, at the

Assembly in Week 6, to present students with their special Icon badges from last year. Please

feel welcome to attend this special event and make Mr Dwyer welcome. We will have a

special morning tea after the presentation in the School Library. ALL COMMUNITY MEMBERS

are invited to attend to chat over coffee and cake with Mr Dwyer, parents and grand friends.

SHROVE TUESDAY AND PANCAKE DAY

Next Tuesday, Years 5 and 6, will take to the beaters, spatulas and mixing bowls to

create mayhem in the classroom cooking pancakes for the entire school and

preschool population. All monies raised will support the Red Cross Queensland Floods

Appeal and your support is welcome. A flyer has been sent home to all families for this

event. Thank you in anticipation of your support. Volunteer chefs are welcome!

OUTDOOR CINEMA NIGHT AT THE CUMNOCK OVAL

This event has been postponed throughout 2018 so we are hoping that it will

eventuate this term, weather permitting. The Outdoor Movie Night is to be

held at the Cumnock Recreation Oval on THURSDAY 4TH APRIL to commence

at approximately 5:00 pm. This is a FREE event for the wider community so

please come along and enjoy an evening of entertainment with the

mischievous minions in “Despicable Me 3”. A FREE Barbeque will be available

prior to the movie provided by the staff from Uniting Family Referral Services in

Dubbo.

GIVIT DROUGHT RELIEF FUNDING

We would like to thank Scott Barett from the GIVIT Charity for the generous $1000

donation of art resources which Miss Rivers selected from our local art suppliers in Orange

last week. We appreciate the injection of much-needed funds to support our Visual Arts

program in our revamped STEAM room. GIVIT is a national not-for-profit charity that

connects those who have with those who need, in a private and safe way. We would like

to thank Mr Barrett on behalf of GIVIT for his generous support and to Miss Rivers who had

a fun-filled afternoon fulfilling her wish list for our school.

WOOLWORTHS JUNIOR LANDCARE GRANTS PROGRAM

Last year, Mr West made time to apply for a Woolworths Junior Landcare grant on

behalf of our school to enrich and build upon our vegetable garden patch and

develop a bush tucker area. Unfortunately, Mr West’s application was

unsuccessful. There were over 1,200 grant applications received. The judging panel

scored each application based on the grant criteria. The calibre of applications

was very high and competition for the approximately 500 grants was intense. We

value Mr West’s enthusiasm and commitment to implement a Junior Landcare

project, and will encourage him to apply for the next round of Woolworths Junior

Landcare grants later this year. Thank you Mr West!

SCHOOL COMMUNITY CHARTER

The School Community Charter has been attached to this Newsletter for your information. The charter

formalises our partnerships with parents and focuses on the positive interactions between school staff and

families. It also reminds parents and carers that schools will take steps to address unacceptable behaviour

to ensure the wellbeing of students, staff and the school community. It has been developed in consultation

with a wide range of stakeholders and outlines the important role parents and carers play in our school

communities. The charter outlines the responsibilities of parents, carers, educators and school staff in NSW

public schools to ensure our learning environments are: collaborative, supportive, and cohesive. If you

would like any further information, please come and see Mrs Schulz.
