•We think our own culture is superior and we judge all other cultures as inferior. Ethnocentrism can include sexism and homophobia.
Cultural Relativism
• No culture is superior to any other culture. We try to respect cultural differences although they may seem strange to us at first.
Long Term vs. Short Term Orientation
• How a culture manages time.• U.S. is short term oriented: • Fast food, pay with a phone,
shop online, etc.
Masculinity vs. FemininitySome cultures have set roles for men and women, that we
Americans might see as Sexism.
Ethical Imperative• This can guide us in doing what is
right verses what is wrong in various communication contexts.• Different cultures value different
things.
