We are seeking sponsors that share our goals of enriching the community through the music and arts of many cultures, developing tourism and economic growth, and expanding everyone’s knowledge of these different cultures. CELEBRATING CULTURAL COMMON GROUNDA group of diverse locals have been working within the community to promote cultural harmony based on mutual understanding and respect. Fittingly enough, this group is called Common Ground. We believe that by celebrating our diversity, Lake Charles will become a more vibrant and exciting community and be even more attractive to new families, businesses, and industries that are considering locating here.
Common Ground is partnering with the City of Lake Charles and other civic organizations, schools, and local universities to host an international festival in October. We will showcase the art, music, dance, fashion, and food of the different countries represented here. This community event is free to the public and is designed to encourage family participation from all areas of Lake Charles. The attractions include:
THE CULTURAL DISPLAY AREA will educate each of us about the many artistic, scientific, and historic achievements each of our cultures has contributed to our global community. You will be led from continent to continent, experiencing the arts, textiles, literature and visual achievements of the world’s great countries.
THE KIDS INTERNATIONAL VILLAGE promises to be one of the highlights. Here our next generation of scientists, engineers, doctors, nurses, teachers, writers, lawyers, and artists will expand their appreciation of different nations! They will be encouraged to try new dances, languages, art forms, and foods and will be rewarded for their efforts. Their passports will be stamped and their visions expanded.
THE WORLD CAFÉ will treat our guests to a taste of what is offered by the variety of ethnic restaurants in our city. Experience the culinary delights of new spices, textures and aromas of foods from around the world.
THE ENTERTAINMENT VENUE offers the music, dance and theater of both local and world artists. Be transported to worlds both near and far by bagpipes, tabla drums, zydeco, Hispanic musicians, steel drums, dancers from India, and many other artistic offerings!
