OFF WE GO…
You are going to visit another country and stay with a host family. You don't yet know which country you'll visit; that will remain a surprise until the last minute. When you get off the plane in this country, you'll be taken to meet your host family.
Besides the obvious question of which country you'll be visiting, what are your biggest questions about this experience? What are you most interested in finding out? What are your biggest concerns?
Find a partner, discuss your answers. Write down your answers and be ready to share with the class.

Get into groups of 3 or 4.
It is time now to put your improvising and acting skills to the test.
Come up before the class and act out the culture that would be found in the environment on the screen.
The scene may change, so be ready to think quickly on how to act out different cultures.
Keep in mind the 7 elements of culture and how you might use these to act out your roles.

Think about these things to create your own culture web.
DEFINE U.S. CULTURE
Look through the magazines and find picture or pictures that show the elements of U.S. culture.
Work in groups to find picture representations of the 7 elements of culture.
Look back at your own web. Think of three things in your home that represent your family’s individual culture.
Write these things in your journal and then share them with your partner. Write down your partners items in your journal as well.
Based on these items how are your cultures different and how are they different.

As we continue on through this unit we will look for evidence to support our generalizations.
GLOBALIZATIONGlobalization – is the process of interaction and
integration among the people, companies, and governments of different nations, a process driven by international trade and investment and aided by information technology.
It means that goods made in Thailand are sold in the U.S. and that music from Jay-Z is listened to by people in Japan.
As goods and ideas move, so does culture. Cultures are diluted and mixed, meanwhile new ones are created. How has your culture been changed by others?

Thinking questions:
1)Why do you think the film maker made this film?
2)What are the benefits of Globalization? What are the drawbacks?
3)Do you think that Globalization does more harm or more good, explain your reasoning.
CULTURAL DIFFUSION
One of the problems with Globalization is cultural diffusion.
Looking at the pictures, how would you define cultural diffusion?
CULTURAL DIFFUSION
Cultural Diffusion is the spreading out of culture, culture traits, or a cultural pattern from a central point.
Why does this happen?
INVENTION VS. INNOVATION
People seek the best pleasurable and labor saving devices.
Innovation – a new idea, use of technology or practice
Invention- a device or tool that had not previously been invented
Invention and innovation bring both the desire for global products and often the means to get them
HUMAN MIGRATION
Another reason for Cultural Diffusion is Human Migration
As people move, so does culture-which causes change
