Corporate Responsibility Report PwC Czech Republic 3

Dear readers,

Welcome to the second annual Corporate Responsibility (CR) report for PwC in the Czech Republic.

Our annual CR report sets out our corporate responsibility actions and achievements during the past financial year 2010. The focus here is on initiatives which extend beyond the traditional financial and economic aspects of our organisation. As advisers and auditors we often act as a mediator between the business sector and society. By sharing knowledge as trusted advisors of decision makers, we contribute towards a more efficient working of the market. By providing assurance on information in our role as auditor, we contribute towards transparency in the market. Our services thus underpin stakeholders’ trust in companies, which we believe is our most important contribution to society.

Our impact on society runs, first and foremost, through the marketplace. The most important factor is how we serve our clients. Clearly, our products and services, our professional

behaviour and our innovative capacity are key determinants of that impact. As a ‘thought leader’ we also participate in public debates on such wide-ranging issues as governance and transparency, reporting, taxation, fraud and corruption.

During the last year, we worked with many senior executives in corporations and owners of private companies to navigate their organisation through unpredictable and unstable market conditions and set a good foundation for sustainable success in the future. I would like to point out especially the “In defiance of crisis” project that promoted experience and best practices related to managing during the crisis among Czech entrepreneurs.

We further shape our role in society as a knowledge organisation through our pro bono CR projects and our employees’ involvement in community organisations and projects.

The positive impact of CR is achieved mainly through the impact our people have in their

work with clients, in their engagement in communities as well as in their personal lives. We increase that impact by devoting a great deal of attention to professional and personal development, talent management and development of responsible leadership. Key aspects here are diversity and equality, health, well-being and good working conditions, combined with an acceptable workload and respect for the personal lives of our people.

Though business service providers are not the biggest polluters, we travel a lot and are frequent flyers. Other areas where we can reduce our impact on the environment are paper consumption, energy consumption and waste. We also engage in public discussion about sustainable business, climate change and effective environmental policies.

I believe you will find the report inspiring reading. We appreciate feedback and input from all our stakeholders, from our employees, clients and suppliers, communities and regulators.

CR strategy team

Since 2008 PwC Czech Republic has had a CR strategy team at the top management level that is responsible for bringing our CR strategy together with our strategic business priorities and values, providing direction on implementing key policies and actions and reviewing progress. The strategy team is supported by a CR coordinator and four working groups composed of volunteers from across the firm who ensure the alignment of the CR strategy with the needs and values of our employees.

Our impact on the marketplace

Our objectives

The biggest impact we have as an organisation stems from our day-to-day actions: how we do our business and impact the character of the Czech marketplace, and how we serve and interact with our clients. Our main objectives are to play an active role in the development of professional standards and policies to ensure transparency and integrity in our markets, enhance value for our clients and other stakeholders, help them do business with confidence, and promote responsible leadership and best practices to achieve sustainable success.

Corporate Responsibility Report PwC Czech Republic 11

PwC Code of ConductPwC conducts its business within the framework of applicable professional standards, laws and regulations, together with PwC policies and standards. In addition to these standards, PwC has developed a Code of Conduct that is an integral part of our day-to-day work. It is based on our core values of excellence, teamwork and leadership.

Ethics HelplineAnother part of our business conduct is an internal Ethics Helpline available to all partners and employees for them to report on any ethics or business conduct matters.

Client selection processWe have a responsibility when it comes to the clients we serve. We only work for companies whose activities are legal and do not violate our principles. This means that there are companies with which we do not wish to associate ourselves. Strict procedures are in place to ensure this when current or new engagements may pose a risk to our reputation for integrity and responsibility.

Client service feedbackEvery year PwC conducts an annual feedback review to monitor and assess our client’s satisfaction with provided services. We consider ongoing dialogue with our clients about the quality of our services and value we bring them to be a key element of our client relationships.

Transparent way of doing business

Enhancing value for our clients through thought leadership and platforms

In addition to delivering high-quality client services, we provide our clients and stakeholders with insights and perspectives that help them to understand their challenges and to address their business issues. We deliver our clients and stakeholders thought leadership through various means, including client meetings, business forums and projects, industry and other reports, newsletters, or news releases.

Czech CEO survey and dialogueWhat’s ahead of us? CEO views on Czech business challenges in a fragile economic environment is a follow-up survey to the annual Global CEO Survey, a flagship thought-leadership project PwC has been preparing for 13 years. This year, we analysed over 70 responses from leaders of large companies across all industries in the Czech Republic.

When conducting the survey and presenting the results to CEOs of large companies in the Czech Republic, we had an opportunity to discuss with them their issues and concerns and share perspectives on future development and challenges of the global, European and Czech marketplaces. The report and our discussion focused

mainly on CEOs’ expectations in terms of growth opportunities for their businesses and potential threats, sources of financing, approaches to managing business in the current economic situation, and views on what the Czech government should do to help companies grow. www.pwc.cz/ceosurvey

Reality check: A survey among Czech entrepreneurs In 2010 we conducted a comprehensive survey of the current situation and future expectations of privately owned Czech companies. Our objective was to find out how they adjusted to (for many of them) probably the biggest economic crisis in their lives, what their intentions are for the future and

what matters they face in connection with the dynamics and challenges of their development, which are rather different from those of large multinationals. Our primary motivations to conduct the research were not only to get better insight into the lives and needs of Czech enterprises, but also to help share experience and thoughts and initiate discussions about important topics such as succession planning in successful privately owned businesses. www.pwc.cz/vlastnik

Flexible labour law 2010 initiativeThe aim of this activity initiated by PwC and the law firm of Ambruz & Dark (A&D) is to start a discussion on adopting a legislative act enabling greater flexibility in the labour market.

Our experience as well as the results of the above-mentioned survey clearly show that flexibility is among the key qualities when dealing with a difficult and unpredictable environment such as the current economic downturn. The first roundtable of the initiative “Call for Flexible Labour Law 2010” took place in June 2010. In conjunction with other signatories who are joining in the appeal, a non-political platform should come into existence that is ready to be an expert partner with the state to streamline Czech labour law.

Corporate Responsibility Report PwC Czech Republic 13

We were honoured to take part in this prestigious project, announced by the Czech Chamber of Commerce in collaboration with PwC and Czech TV. The goal of our participation in this project was to share the measures we used during the unfavourable economic situation which should result in positive contributions to the sustainable development of other business subjects in the Czech Republic.

We successfully demonstrated that even a purely Czech firm such as Dial Telecom is

able to face an unfavourable economic situation, and that properly chosen investments caused revenue growth by preserving capital profitability as well as lowering debt. We believe that our participation was beneficial not only for us, but also for the broader business community.

Tomáš Strašák, Dial Telecom

We joined the project due to its theme, which is current and also unique in some way, because the global crisis is not

experienced by every generation. Another reason we saw was the initiator, the main partner as well as the other partners themselves guaranteed the reputation and level of the competition. Thanks to this project, we were able to review and analyze the steps that we more or less automatically conducted daily during the crisis. I will be pleased if the description of these several situations and key decisions is beneficial to others.

Stanislav Zíma, EXIM Tours

In defiance of crisis project – best practice award for private Czech companies

The fact that times of economic downturn can also be seen as a new business opportunity was confirmed by the outcomes of a joint project of the Czech Chamber of Commerce and PwC Czech Republic called “In defiance of crisis”. The project awarded ten small and medium

enterprises within ten industries that used innovative approaches to respond to the crisis, managed to avert a downturn and find new business opportunities. The objective of the project was to find and promote best practices among Czech entrepreneurs, help them share and learn from

each other and recognize those who were able to successfully deal with the difficult economic climate. www.pwc.cz/krizinavzdory

What did some of the winners think about the In defiance of crisis project?

Industry analysisLocal clients can benefit from the global knowledge accumulated in the PwC network that is collected within individual industries and analysed by PwC.

Paying TaxesPaying Taxes, a unique study from PwC and the World Bank Group, measures the ease of paying taxes across 183 economies worldwide by assessing both the cost of taxes and the administrative burden of tax compliance. The study shows that the Czech Republic has one of the most time-consuming tax systems in the world. We use the

report to initiate discussion with the government about changes in the Czech tax system that could bring benefits to both the state as well as businesses.

Peter Chrenko, former Deputy Minister of Finance in the Czech Republic and current Partner in Tax & Legal Services at PwC in the Czech Republic, said: “We appreciated the Paying Taxes benchmarking analysis, and it was one source of reference we used at the ministry to obtain additional insight into the tax competitiveness of the Czech Republic and the various approaches towards tax reform adopted around the world.”

14 Corporate Responsibility Report PwC Czech Republic

Fraud Forum & Global Economic Crime SurveyIn late 2009, we established Fraud Forum, a platform to share knowledge and participate in research to help prevent, detect and investigate fraud and economic crime, in all their many forms. Members of Fraud Forum include people working in

finance, internal audit, risk management, security, in-house legal and compliance functions as well as fraud specialists. Within only six months, membership in the platform grew to more than 100 members.

Last year PwC also issued the latest edition of Global Economic Crime Survey, including a report on the Czech Republic, which is the most comprehensive study of economic crime of its kind. The survey indicates that in the Czech Republic, much more

fraud remains undetected than is actually revealed, and that more fraud is detected by chance than in other regions of the world. In other words, Czech companies lose a lot of value, and this can be avoided. We believe that ongoing discussion and exchange of experience enabled by the Fraud Forum will help companies to address fraud-related issues more efficiently. www.pwc.cz/fraudforum

PwC Business AcademyPwC Business Academy (BA) is a new concept in professional training and development on the Czech market as we use the years of our own learning & development as well as professional experience to help develop our clients. Set up in 2008 as part of our business, BA has ever since been helping to build the knowledge, skills and competence of Czech business leaders through a full variety of courses in many areas of our expertise, most of them led by our own professionals. BA is continuously improving its learning methods – during last year, BA introduced the IFRS Centre of Excellence and developed a new study scheme

for ACCA qualification, the ACCA Advantage. As a result of this effort, the pass rate of BA students at international qualifications, namely ACCA, is significantly higher than the global average pass rate.

Since April 2010, Czech HR professionals can benefit from a newly launched professional education programme that leads to the award of a University Postgraduate Diploma in Human Resource Management and membership of the professional body for HR specialists – the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD). This internationally recognised qualification in HRM was brought for the first time to the Czech Republic thanks to BA.

In 2010, PwC Business Academy, as a professional training provider, acquired top level recognition from the international organisation ACCA and was awarded the Platinum Approved Learning Partner certificate. PwC was previously awarded with the Platinum Approved Employer certificate for long-term professional development of its employees. Now BA enjoys top recognition for its quality training programmes and its ACCA qualification that it provides for PwC employees as well as other students who are not employees of PwC.

Promoting responsible leadership in the regions – CSR Award in the Moravian-Silesian regionIn winter 2009, PwC became an expert partner of the first ever annual CSR Award contest organised by the Head of the Moravian-Silesian region that focused on the responsible businesses in the region and attracted the attention of not only large companies, but also small and medium enterprises. We helped with the methodology and the overall evaluation. In the aftermath of the award, we participated in a conference that was dedicated to the topic of responsible leadership in the region.

Engaging clients in fundraising eventsDuring the last year we supported several fundraising events. PwC is a traditional partner of the annual Beneficial Wine Auction organised in November by the Via Foundation and the South Moravian Community Foundation. We invited our clients to join us at the event. Together, we helped to raise CZK 457,000 that was used to finance community projects all over the Czech Republic.

Among other fundraising events that our people and clients supported was a beneficial theatre performance called České nebe, put on by Divadlo Jára Cimrmana. Proceeds from the event were used to finance the Sue Ryder Home.

Membership in professional and business associationsPwC cooperates with a number of professional and business associations to broaden our impact on the market, support the creation and distribution of knowledge, and share best practices. We also use them as a platform for a dialogue with our stakeholders and to raise debate about important economic, business and social issues. We are an active member of almost 40 professional organisations.

Our impact on our people

Our objectives

The people are the core of our business. Our success as a firm and in the marketplace very much depends on the success of our people. At PwC, we invest in our people by providing them with enriched professional experiences and learning opportunities. We want to provide a progressive and balanced working environment where people are comfortable to work. We seek to attract and retain the best people and to provide engaging career paths – we employ the kind of people who will take PwC’s success into the future. By investing in these and other areas we believe we are developing responsible leaders and trusted advisors who can have a positive impact on our clients, colleagues and communities.

Corporate Responsibility Report PwC Czech Republic 17

Learning and development opportunities for our employees

We are committed to a continuous learning culture that helps to develop the knowledge, skills and business acumen of our people.

Developing the concept of a learning organisation At PwC, our aim is to further enhance the implementation of the concept of a learning organisation into our own company culture where employees will be the active drivers of their own learning process. Whether through coaching, internal courses, on-the-job or team learning and knowledge sharing we are investing in the professional development of our people. Last year we started on the implementation of a systematic approach in the area of non-technical and soft skills as well.

One of the key trends during the 2010 financial year was a significant increase in the number of business and soft skills trainings attended. PwC Czech Republic experienced the best results in the average soft and business skills training hours per learner, even better than the benchmark of financial institutions in the CEE region. This fact shows that our employees appreciate changes to our L&D programme that aim to provide them with training opportunities that are relevant to their daily work and needs. Our staff and partners completed more than 71,000 hours of learning and education hours.

“The principle of the learning organisation is to approach the development of the people systematically and to maximise the use of internal resources to reach this aim. One of the examples can be the increased prestige of internal trainers who educate their colleagues,” says Jana Krajcarová, Learning & Development leader.

18 Corporate Responsibility Report PwC Czech Republic

Developing business in Kazakhstan Interview with Zuzana Tairová, Director in the Financial Services department at PwC Czech Republic who recently returned from a 2.5-year secondment at PwC Kazakhstan.

What did the secondment bring you personally and professionally?

The biggest education you get from a secondment is learning about yourself as a person. You learn how you are able to work in another country with a different culture and language and relate to its people. Getting along with a completely new group of people and interacting with them in a new environment are the factors that motivate and enrich me the most.

From a professional perspective, being in Kazakhstan gave me the chance to handle situations and work under conditions that were quite common here in the Czech Republic maybe 15 years ago. We faced quite familiar problems, so I was able to implement the experience we had already gained in the Czech Republic and avoid certain dead ends. Having a certain knowledge that you can use and learning how and when to use it in an unknown environment drives you professionally

Gaining international experience through the Global Mobility programmeOur Global Mobility programme provides our people with international work opportunities in other PwC territories, either permanently or for a short-term secondment. These assignments are a great way of gaining valuable skills and knowledge.

Last year we welcomed to our Czech offices 20 new people from 9 different countries, (e.g., South Africa, the UK, Georgia, USA, etc.) and sent 14 people on long-term assignments to 9 countries abroad (e.g., UK, Netherlands, Kazakhstan, Luxembourg, etc.).

Corporate Responsibility Report PwC Czech Republic 19

and gives you self-confidence.

What were the main challenges in setting up a business in Financial Services in Kazakhstan?

One of the biggest challenges was to drive and set up our business practice in a new industry from scratch. It was hard because you don’t know anyone and you have almost zero contacts. Kazakhstan has a very informal business

culture that is based on personal relations. You don’t sell brands, you sell yourself, and therefore you have to have someone who will help you and introduce you. At the beginning, it was necessary to map the market and the intertwining relations. Learning and pronouncing Kazakh names I have never heard of was also quite difficult.

Another challenge was the banking sector itself. It’s very

different and you don’t get to recognise the names of the large bank groups that can be spotted on the European markets. The Kazakh culture is very traditional; nevertheless, the business is Russian. If you don’t speak Russian, you won’t succeed. At the same time you have to be aware of the Russian and Kazakh rivalry in the business.

How did you come across as a business woman in Kazakhstan?

It was quite surprising to learn that most important posts, even in the banking sector, are held by women. Even my team was at the beginning solely female. Before coming to Kazakhstan I was a bit worried, because Kazakhstan is a Muslim country; nevertheless, Kazakh traditions

are very important and women are well respected.

What is your ultimate recommendation for someone who plans to go on a secondment?

When you go on a secondment, it’s important, especially at the start, to be really open to the country, its people, its culture and expect anything. Going for secondments to less developed countries can also bring you more opportunities for growth, both personally and professionally.

Attaining work/life flexibility

The competing pressures of work, home and health can sometimes prove to be a challenge for our people to manage from day to day. Work schedules can be unpredictable at times due to the inherent nature of our business and the drive to satisfy client needs. On the other hand, we understand that our people are most successful when they attain the flexibility necessary to meet the demands of their professional work and achieve things important to them in their personal lives. At PwC, we provide our staff with the tools and resources necessary to achieve flexibility and wellness.

Balancing work and private life with flexible work arrangementsOur people can work part-time and also have access to other flexible work arrangements like home office, flexible working hours, unpaid leave/sabbaticals, etc. In the summer, we offer the compressed workweek option.

PwC Choices – a new system of flexible benefitsIn the fall of 2009, we introduced a new system of flexible benefits, PwC Choices, that enables our people to select benefits based on their own preferences. Each employee is entitled to a virtual annual budget in the form of points and can choose from over 2,000 providers of various services and products.

Saving time through convenience servicesTo manage their day-to-day lives, our people can take advantage of certain services provided by our suppliers at special discounted rates, for example, dry cleaning, car services, wellness centres and more.

Participation in work/life balance seminarsIn spring 2010, our Learning & Development department organised a series of work-life balance seminars in cooperation with an external provider, each focused on different topics like energy and vitality, creating personal PR, life vision and self-reflection.

Global People Survey response

As a responsible employer, we recognise the importance of a compact feedback cycle. One of the main channels available to PwC employees for providing their feedback to the management is the annual Global People Survey (GPS).

Sharing opinions through Global People SurveyThe Global People Survey, an annual survey of employee’s satisfaction (GPS), is conducted by an external service provider in all PwC offices around the globe and is anonymous. It allows us to better understand the issues and assess what needs to be done to make PwC a better place to work each year.

In 2009, the response rate in the Czech Republic reached 70%. After receiving the survey results, the management engaged people from across all departments and asked them to form four working groups to analyse the issues raised in the survey and suggest action plans to address these issues. Based on the results of the GPS, we focused mainly on internal communication, work/life balance and cooperation across departments and performance management. After we started

to implement the agreed action plans, we checked our direction in a semi-annual Pulse survey among our employees.

The results of the latest GPS, conducted in the spring of 2010, confirmed that the changes we agreed and started to implement corresponded with the needs of our employees. The overall response rate in the Czech Republic reached 85%. We recorded an increase in all key aggregated areas.

22 Corporate Responsibility Report PwC Czech Republic

in the past year we cooperated with universities and 7 student organisations

8

Working with young talents

For the past several years, we have been chosen as one of the Czech Republic’s Top 10 Employers by students. Our cooperation with students and the academic world includes a large variety of projects such as educational lectures at universities and for student organisations, business games and simulations, development and workshops for student organisations or fundraising events.

PwC as a partner of Global Management ChallengeSince 2007, every year PwC has been supporting one team of young talented students who compete in the annual Global Management Challenge (GMC), the largest strategy and management competition in the world. It’s the largest international event based on business simulations in which more than 400,000 university students and company managers participate throughout the world. The teams supported by PwC traditionally record excellent results, and, this year, our team won the national round yet again and represented the Czech Republic in the global finals in Russia.

Helping with future careers through the Career Diagnostics programmeThe Career Diagnostics programme is one of the most popular academic projects we run with the Development and Counselling Centre at the University of Economics in Prague. Last year, 64 students who participated got the opportunity to get an in-depth psychological assessment of their strengths, weaknesses and career potential.

Bridging the generation gaps – Prague Club NightFor the second year we became a partner of Prague Club Night, a student fundraising event held to support the Sue Ryder Home. During this event, CZK 317,797 was raised and donated to finance the care of seniors placed in the home.

Corporate Responsibility Report PwC Czech Republic 23

How often did you participate in the GMC and what are your achievements?

As a multiple winner of the Czech national finals, I had the great pleasure to win the world finals in Macau in 2007 and finish competing in GMC after 8 years. Besides material and financial rewards, I value foremost the practical experience and recognition, as well as the fun that participation in the GMC brought me.

Where do you see the value of your GMC experience?

GMC is a contest in which all the participants get the opportunity to live the role of the top management of a producing company. While analysing companies, I often use the knowledge of the connection between procurement, production, sales, distribution, finance and the value of the companies that I gained during GMC. Although GMC works with a model and reality is far more complex, it is a great chance to understand the main framework, get valuable insights and practise finding creative solutions.

What is one of your most memorable moments during your GMC career?

One of the best moments came during the international finals, when we, a group of students, beat the team of real and more experienced executive managers of one Indian steel company and won the bronze medal. That was in 2003. The gold medal in 2007 was then the cherry on top. The most important thing though was the fact that we built friendships with our competitors, and we enjoyed the unique environment.

Our impact on the environment

Our objectives

As a professional services firm, our environmental impact lies especially in excessive consumption of paper, waste production, business travel and energy use. Last year we focused mainly on raising awareness of environmental issues among staff, reducing our paper usage and minimising our greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. Our goal for the upcoming years is to reduce our GHG emissions by 25% per employee by financial year 2013 from a 2008 baseline. Therefore, we want to implement a three-year Environment Management Plan and focus on engaging our employees in environmental initiatives.

PwC Green Week campaignHeld every spring prior to World Environmental Day, Green Week provides an opportunity for PwC to promote and encourage sustainability both in and outside the workplace. This year we focused on environmentally friendly practices related to business travel, recycling, energy saving and paper consumption. Based on direct feedback from employees collected during this initiative, we added facilities for our employees who travel to work by bike.

Participation in the global initiative, Earth HourOn Saturday, March 28, 2010 at 8:30 p.m. all PwC offices and staff in the Czech Republic participated with other PwC territories across the globe in Earth Hour, an annual World Wildlife Fund event to raise awareness on energy consumption and climate change. The office campaign about the event also encouraged people to participate in Earth Hour at home, and to pass the word on to their families and friends.

Employee engagement

We have undertaken a variety of initiatives to raise environmental awareness and engage staff in environmental activities. Here are a few examples of our activities.

Despite the fact that it was raining the whole day and we were working pretty hard, I had an excellent feeling at the end of the day. It is always quite satisfying when you can see the results of your work immediately and moreover, you know you did it for free.

The Green Day represented a great opportunity for me to get to know some of my colleagues and to participate in a volunteer project.

I enjoyed the physical work in the open air and had the good feeling that I helped others to live in a nice area.

Printing solutionsSince March 2010 all our departments and offices print internal materials on 100% recycled paper that is set as the default option. We have also set double-sided printing as the default, which further reduces our consumption. Employees can still choose to print on white paper or single-sided for client communication purposes.

New recycling options in the officesIn May 2010 we implemented several new recycling options. Currently, besides paper and plastics, we recycle batteries, lighting devices and glass.

Saving paper internal contestAt the beginning of the last financial year, we announced a new internal contest for our departments – Step by step, floor by floor. Throughout the year we regularly monitored and communicated the paper consumption on each floor. The floor that managed to cut back the most in comparison with the last year won. This year it was our Advisory and Transactions teams which managed to reduce their paper consumption by almost 60%.

Waste sorting, carbon and paper reduction initiatives

To reinforce our commitment to reduce our paper consumption and to separate waste effectively, we introduced several new initiatives.

Engagement of responsible suppliers

New purchasing policyOur purchasing policy identifies managing environmental issues in our supply chain as one of the key aspects of our supplier management strategy. We base our purchasing not only on financial criteria, but also on respect for the environment and society. The policy is published on our external website. www.pwc.cz/responsibility

Carbon footprint monitoring and reportingPwC is working towards long-term overall reduction of our emissions. During FY10, we adjusted our reporting model and published an internal carbon footprint report every quarter summarising our total GHG emissions and their sources. The reports are now being used to identify our long-term plan to reduce GHG emissions.

Videoconfe- rencing facilitiesThis year we have further enhanced our videoconferencing facilities in the Prague office as the demand to substitute business travel is gradually increasing. Videoconferencing equipment is available in all our Czech offices and, in addition to meetings, it is often used to connect Brno and Ostrava colleagues to our internal trainings.

Virtualization of the serversMore than 66% of our data servers are virtualized. This helps us to reduce costs and energy-induced carbon emissions.

Seasonal e-greeting cardsWe continued in our tradition set last year and replaced all printed seasonal greeting cards with an electronic version. The motif was purchased from Barevný svět dětí, a civic organisation helping children in institutional care who designed the motif.

Good Entrepreneurship educational programmeFor the second consecutive year, PwC became a partner and supporter of the Good Entrepreneurship programme that focuses on the professionalisation and development of business skills of Czech NGOs. In addition to financial support, PwC also provides premises as well as lecturers for educational workshops during which the NGOs can consult the experts on concrete projects they designed and elaborated on throughout the training programme.

PwC as an expert partner of Top Philanthropists AwardsSince 2007 PwC has been advising the Czech Donors Forum, organiser of the annual contest, on the methodology and evaluation of the two quantitative categories of the contest. PwC acts as an expert partner of the two categories, one focused on measuring the absolute volume of distributed resources and the other on the distributed resources vs. gross company profit.

Online tax calculatorSince 2006 PwC has been cooperating with Neziskovky.cz on the project of an online tax calculator. PwC tax consultants developed a web-based formula that enables individuals and also companies to calculate the tax benefits when donating to charities. The formula is updated according to relevant changes in tax legislation.

Free premises for conferencesSome of our long-term non-profit sector partners take advantage of the PwC premises to hold their workshops, seminars or conferences.

Sharing know-how and practical business experience with non-profit organisations

PwC recognises that non-profit organisations (NGOs) primarily need help increasing the efficiency of their work, so we add value by providing the skills and assistance these organisations need. Three of the main partners PwC cooperates with in the area of education are the Czech Donors Forum, Via Foundation and Neziskovky.cz.

Job-training internships for the mentally challenged Since May 2009 PwC has been regularly hosting a job training internship every six months for mentally challenged people in

the PwC Club. The one-week internship is run together with Vesmírna café whose clients participate in the programme. It aims to provide them with an alternative working experience and easier integration into society and ultimately the labour market. This year we hosted four new interns who helped to run the café in the PwC Club.

About VesmírnaVesmírna café is one of the projects run by the non-profit organisation Máme otevřeno? and serves as a job training platform for mentally challenged people. It helps these individuals towards total independence and also enables them to have contact with the community at large.

From a thank you note, July, 2010Jana Hrazdilová, coordinator of the Vesmírna project at Máme otevřeno, speaks about the experience of Monika and Libor, clients of Máme otevřeno? who worked as interns in the PwC Club in May 2010.

…I would like to thank PwC for the internship opportunities, as well as the team in the PwC Club who integrated our interns very well among each other...

Monika is newly motivated, as such cooperation helps her with her own development. Today, she’s back at work (in Vesmírna cafe) after one week spent at PwC, and I watch how she tries to be warm towards customers and systematic in her approach to her work. …

Libor was totally impressed with PwC. He told me several times that it was beautiful during the internship. He liked the environment very much, as well as the team. He already tried to work on a short internship in one restaurant last year, but the work at PwC had totally new dimensions for him – another type of guests and organisation of work…

Employee engagement

At PwC we encourage our people to get involved in their communities as part of our goal to be a responsible business. They engage in their communities in several ways, be it through the traditional Christmas Charity project or other material collections and fundraising activities throughout the year, providing pro bono services, education of the non-profit sector or via volunteering.

Over the past financial year, employees and partners of PwC Czech Republic devoted more than 1,000 working hours to Corporate Responsibility related activities. PwC Czech Republic donated more than CZK 1.7 million in cash, services and gifts. An additional CZK 195,000 was contributed by PwC employees and partners.

Employee Community ProjectsOne of the most interesting and recent ways our employees can support their community is our new initiative, the so-called Community Projects, which began in early summer 2010. Our employees can create a project proposal designed to help their community or

organisation and submit it to an internal grant competition. A special grant committee composed of PwC employees selects 3 winning projects to receive financial support. In June 2010, we organised an informal panel discussion with our charity partners and employees to help clarify mutual expectations and understanding of such cooperation.

Christmas charity and collectionsAlready for the eighth year in a row, PwC employees participated in our annual Christmas charity project. Using a salary deduction option, employees can directly support selected NGOs or projects according to their own preferences. The employee-generated collection is then matched by PwC, and PwC also arranges for all related administration (individual donation contracts, tax deduction, etc.).

The projects supported via means of the Christmas charity are selected by employees volunteering in our working group based on accordance with our target themes and groups we support, the potential for long-term cooperation and the opportunity to build other forms of cooperation as well, rather than solely financial.

In 2009, PwC employees and partners donated altogether CZK 405,450 to selected NGOs. The raised donations were

distributed among 7 NGOs: Fond ohrožených dětí, Asistence, Máme otevřeno?, Okamžik, Dům tří přání, Inbáze Berkat a Český svaz ochránců přírody. Since 2002 we have distributed more than CZK 3.5 million to the non-profit sector.

Apart from direct financial donations our employees also help NGOs in the form of material collections. During the December clothes collection held on behalf of Sue Ryder Home, we collected clothes worth CZK 23,000 that were subsequently sold in Sue Ryder charity shops. The proceeds were then used to finance personal assistance and nursing care for the elderly. The Brno office held a traditional clothes collection for the Brno Kangaroo house that helps socially disadvantaged children.

Community Days – Community volunteeringIn September 2009, the firm organised Community Days during which 35 PwC volunteers from Prague and Brno were divided into small teams and visited six organisations and helped them for one day.

Eight people helped to clean up the garage storage area in Klokánek Štěrboholy and the garden in Klokánek Hostivice. Seven people visited Asistence, learnt to work with wheelchairs and organised a trip to the zoo with

Asistence’s clients. Ten people painted two apartments for Pohoda clients, people with learning difficulties. Dům tří přání, a crisis station for children, used the help of four of our employees for garden maintenance and rebuilding the basketball court. Two people helped out in the audio library of the Okamžik association that integrates visually impaired people into society. Four people from Brno helped out in a home for seniors in Brno.
