We love photography and that is why we teach it.

The Cape Town School of Photography is dedicated to teaching photography in an interesting and engaging way, and to training active and impassioned photographers. Our course is structured to develop creative, thinking photographers with a heightened understanding of personal vision, aesthetic sensibility and a refinement of technical skills. Our classes are small, which engenders a dynamic and intimate space where students can be equally vulnerable and strong, and our lecturers are dedicated to mentoring students to fulfill the course outcomes.

Introduction to our two-year programme

The first year is essentially a beginner immersion course where students will acquire a solid technical understanding of photography together with training in how to develop the conceptual aspect of their work. We expose the student to a range of practical and academic course components which aim to develop a well-rounded and informed photographer.

At the end of the first year students will have produced both a technical and a creative portfolio, and will have exhibition experience.

9

Page 10: CTSP Course Brochure July - December 2014

The innovative second year programme is at once a sound academic platform from which to examine the critical issues facing photography and an exciting environment in which to experiment with the photographic process and approach a full body of work. Students will also be equipped in a wide spectrum of commercial practices.

Expert short modules such as DSLR video, medium and large format camera work and a comprehensive business module give students the opportunity to integrate their skills to face the challenging world of the photographic profession.

At the end of the second year, students will leave with:

• A Commercial Portfolio guided by industry professionals• A Personal Portfolio developed through close mentoring by our lecturers• A personalized website presence and supporting marketing tools• Work or job shadow and exhibition experience.

Entrance Requirements: Applicants will be required to fill in an application form together with a letter of motivation and a selection of photographs they have taken. Students are also invited to attend an interview. This is encouraged but not obligatory for students applying from out of town.

Should the applicant be at a level to be considered for second year, the applicant will need to submit a comprehensive portfolio for assessment. Details available on request.

As classes are small, early application is encouraged.

A needs based annual scholarship is available. Scholarship requirements are available on request.

ABOUT OUR PART-TIME COURSES & WORKSHOPS

INTRODUCTORY COURSES

INTERMEDIATE COURSES

Our beginner courses are designed to provide you with the technical and compositional skills required to create a strong photographic image. These courses are practically orientated and include weekly assignments.

Once you feel comfortable with your camera and are keen to further develop your photographic skills and knowledge, We suggest you enrol for one of our intermediary courses or workshops.

We recommend that students complete both an introductory and an intermediate course before enrolling for one of our advanced courses. These are high level courses and require students to be committed to their own creative process.

The workshops we offer are mostly genre specific and designed to enable students to focus on a particular aspect of photography and acquire the related skills in a short space of time.

If for any reason our courses do not suit your schedule, you are welcome to book hourly one-on-one sessions with a lecturer that will suit your specific needs. These sessions are charged at an hourly rate.
