Concussions

Worse Then You Think

In healthy brain tissue, virtually no protein tangles, which show up as

brown spots, are visible.

The brain of a 45-year-old football player with chronic traumatic

encephalopathy shows more brown tangles.

Ted Johnson has CTE as a result of at his estimate at least 50 concussions while he played professional football

Professional sports teams have team doctors that know what a concussion looks like. Youth sports teams do not, and that can be dangerous because they can be sent back into play and have it worsened by another hit

Players that get a concussion should be cleared by a doctor

before they go back into play. This is one of the

tools doctors use to determine when the player can resume

playing.

Chris Nowinksi played football for Harvard before his professional wrestling career. He got a few concussions playing football which caused his severe

concussion he got while wrestling to be even worse.

At CSTE (Center for the Study of Traumatic Encephalopathy) in Boston, they take many images of brains of all

ages with and without CTE and compare them.

All leagues and all sports should make rules and take initiative in preventing concussions, like USA Hockey did with their Heads Up

Hockey posters.
