Tourist Route/The La Marina galleries 1 (typical glazed houses in the city) will welcome when you arrive. You can start to walk around the Historic Quarter very near to them: the City Council Square 2, devoted to the heroine María Pita, the Santiago Church 3 or Santa María Collegiate Church 4 are musts to visit: walking through stone paved squares and streets will take you to the San Carlos Gardens 5 where the Tomb of General Sir John Moore is and from where you will be able to see the San Antón Castle 6.
From there you can walk along the Promenade to the Tower of Hercules 7, a lighthouse from Roman times, recently named a World Heritage Site that is at the top of the list of places of interest in the city.
Leaving the Tower behind you, you will go past the Aquarium 8, the Domus 9 and will reach the Orzán 10 and Riazor 11 beaches on the way to the San Pedro Mount 12 and the panoramic lift from where you can enjoy some spectacular views of the city and the bay.
The centre also has some interesting places, like the house where Picasso 13 lived when he started to paint or the striking buildings built at the beginning of the 20th century under the infl uence of modernism 14.
Gastronomic route/ All the corners of the city have places to enjoy our gastronomy, and ifyou want go to them all follow the routes marked by the streets withwine bars. In the traditional streets, San Juan, Franja, Galera, Olmos or Barrera, in the Obelisco Area, you will fi nd bars to try the most traditional tapas and wines (Ribeiro or Albariño). The Estrella and Troncoso streets combine these tastes with glimmers of new cuisine in modern wine bars with a choice of wine lists.
tapas bars is assembled around the Vigo Square and the Lugo Square, in Pardo Bazán, Padre Feijoo or Payo Gómez streets.
In these areas, tapas will be a good advance of what you can fi nd later in the city’s restaurants, and as variety is the spice of life, you can taste all the styles with the guarantee of our raw materials: fresh and top quality fi sh, meat, fruit and vegetables. The María Pita Square and the La Marina Avenue have many cafés and outdoor seating areas where you can
a beer from the well-known local brand: Estrella Galicia.
Shopping route/
The entire centre is the shopping area in the city, but Calle Real and its surroundings (Obelisco Area) and the Lugo Square and its surroundings (Picasso District) are the shopping areas par excellence.
You can fi nd the top name brands in fashion and accessories in the streets around Lugo Square: Juan Flórez, Payo Gómez, Padre Feijoo, Teresa Herrera... amid a big variety of exclusive shops. If what you are looking for is jewellery we recommend Calle Real and the surrounding streets where the city’s oldest jewellers and shops coexist with the trendiest fashion and bar and restaurant chains and franchises. You can also buy tasty products from our gastronomy in this area in shops that conserve the charm and taste of the city’s yesteryears.
Around María Pita you will fi nd small souvenir and handicrafts shops and a little further away, the Historic Quarterthe opportunity to buy articles that you can only fi nd in its antique shops.
