elected to a full term as a clergy board mem-
ber after serving a partial term previ-
ously. Newly elected Board members are Tem
Barrett, Shawn Harkins, Amy Heller, and Sam-
mie Thomas.
IIII want to personally thank all of the
Board members and our Commu-
nity members for their continued support of
the Walk to Emmaus. These spiritual journeys
have been so vital in many lives including my
own. The Walks would not happen without
your service, agape, prayers, and of course,
Pilgrims!
I also appreciate your support of me as
your Community Lay Director for the past two
years. This journey has strengthened my reli-
ance upon the direction of the Holy Spirit
and given me immense respect for our Com-
munity members. Thank you for allowing me
to serve the Cross Point Emmaus Community.

probably are tired of hearing that phrase by

ruary 1st.

(Community Lay Director, Assistant Commu-

maining board members will reposition
themselves in other duties such as Set-up/

Fourth Day
Rev. Brad Houchin
HOW’S YOUR FOURTH DAY?
Have you ever sponsored a pilgrim for a walk? If so,
did you help them find a reunion group? Are you staying
in contact with them to make sure they are
continuing to stay active in their group?
Sponsorship is on the “front lines” of
responsibility for helping new pilgrims get
in a reunion group and stay accountable to
that group. When you agree to sponsor a
pilgrim it is important to understand there
is more to sponsorship than just getting a
pilgrim to the walk or driving them home from the
walk. Taking them to the fourth day meeting following
the walks is as crucial to the success of their Emmaus
experience as any of the first three days.
So, to all you sponsors out there, I encourage you to
call (email/text/Skype/IM…) the pilgrims you have spon-
sored in the past and ask them “how’s your fourth
day.” It may be the very instrument of accountability
that they need and, for some, it may be a
great opportunity to help get them back on
the Emmaus road.
On a more personal note, I would like to
say thank you to the Emmaus Community
for giving me the opportunity to serve in
this body of fellowship as a member of the

THE NEWSLETTER is not used to tooting its own horn,
but IF YOU are then we need to hear from you. We are
going to be relentless about this because the community
needs a better list of musicians and musicians.
The problem is that there are lots of talented people
in Cross Point, but we don’t have a good list, and there-
fore don’t know who to call. We are especially short on
gathering nights, but also on walks—so that means vol-
unteer forms.
You can contact the Music representative by clicking
on Board on the website then clicking on the name of
the board rep for Music. Or, you can respond to the
email you get and send name, instrument, vocal, or
other along with contact information and any other
helpful stuff (like when you are available, etc.) to THE
NEWSLETTER. We will get it to the proper authorities.

maus experience was life changing for me and to have
an opportunity to give back even the smallest portion of
that experience is an honor and a privilege.

CROSS POINT EMMAUS
The Cross Point Emmaus Board meets at 4:00 pm
prior to every monthly gathering. In the December meet-
ing, the Board focused on team selection for the upcoming
Spring Walks and issues relating to the walks.
The Board accepted the new members of the board to
the meeting in December, to become acquainted to the
positions available for new board members. The new
members are:
Tem Barrett, Amy Heller, Shawn Harkins, Sammie Tho-
mas, and Brad Houchin.
Of course Brad has been filling an unexpired term, but now
will hold a full three year term representing clergy. The
other new members will bring a wealth of experience as
active members in the community and former lay director
experience.
All positions on the board, in the various positions
(including THE NEWSLETTER) are up for election in the Janu-
ary meeting.
The special committee on A/V position is preparing a
manual and recommendations for handling the audio/
visual aspects of the presentations and music in
the conference room. Posters have been almost
completely replaced by Power Point presenta-
tions.
The work of tediously preparing poster
boards (which do not “edit” easily) has been
simplified and streamlined. This however re-
quires a technician to present the slides and co-
ordinate with the script of the speaker. The
committee’s job is to standardize and define the position
and the technical and hardware issues so that each walk
will go smoothly.
Another committee was assembled to address
changes in the By-Laws of the corporation. The intent is
to clarify the existing articles to eliminate old wording
and provide for orderly procedures. The original By-
Laws were written in 1993 and were in need of revision.
A new version should be ready for the January board
meeting and voted on. Once the board has approved a
new set of By-Laws, it will be presented to the commu-
nity for review and comment.
Lay Directors for Spring 2013 were announced at
the men’s and women’s closing, and Jay Grace has ac-
cepted to serve as the Walk #89 Lay Director and Cherri
Bradley has accepted to serve as the Walk #90 Lay Direc-
tor. The walks scheduled for next year are:

Women #90, April 25-28, 2013
Fall

On the Road to Emmaus
13 Now that same day two of them were going to a village
called Emmaus, about seven miles[a] from Jerusalem. 14
They were talking with each other about everything that
had happened. 15 As they talked and discussed these
things with each other, Jesus himself came up and walked
along with them; 16 but they were kept from recognizing
him.
….
28 As they approached the village to which they were go-
ing, Jesus continued on as if he were going farther. 29 But
they urged him strongly, “Stay with us, for it is nearly
evening; the day is almost over.” So he went in to stay
with them.
30 When he was at the table with them, he took bread,
gave thanks, broke it and began to give it to them. 31 Then
their eyes were opened and they recognized him, and he
disappeared from their sight. 32 They asked each other,
“Were not our hearts burning within us while he talked
with us on the road and opened the Scriptures to us?”
