Materials Required—

AMERICAN THREAD COMPANY "STAR" PEARL COTTON Article 90, Size 5

7-50 yd. Balls Blue or any Color desired.

Steel Crochet Hook #8 or 9.

1 pr. Inner Soles.

2 Buttons.

1 ½ yds. Sequins.

Directions are given for medium size. Small and large sizes are given in parenthesis.

SOLE —Ch 65, about 7 inches, (59-71) 3 d c in 4th st from hook, 2 d c in next st, 1 d c in each of the next 58 sts of ch (52-64) 2 d c

in next st, 3 d c in last st, working on other side of ch, 2 d c in next st, 1 d c in each of the next 58 sts, (52-64) 2 d c in next st, join in

1st d c.

2nd Row —Ch 3, 2 d c in same space, 2 d c in each of the next 5 sts, 1 d c in each of the next 58 sts, (52-64) 2 d c in each of the

next 7 sts, 1 d c in each of the next 58 sts, (52-64) 2 d c in next st, join in 1st d c.

3rd Row —Ch 3, 2 d c in same space, 2 d c in each of the next 6 sts, 1 d c in each of the next 30 sts, (27-33) 1 s d c in each of the

next 16 sts (13-19) 1 d c in each of the next 17 sts, 2 d c in each of the next 11 sts, 1 d c in each of the next 17 sts, 1 s d c in each

of the next 16 sts (13-19) 1 d c in each of the next 30 sts (27-33), join in 1st dc.

4th Row —Ch 3, 2 d c in same st, * 1 d c in next st, 2 d c in next st, repeat from * 5 times, 1 d c in each of the next 31 sts (28-34) 1

s d c in each of the next 20 sts, (17-23) 1 d c in each of the next 15 sts, * 2 d c in next st, 1 d c in next st, repeat from * 9 times, 1 dc in each of the next 15 sts, 1 s d c in each of the next 20 sts, (17-23) 1 d c in each remaining st, join to 1st d c.

5th Row —Ch 3, 2 d c in same st, * 1 d c in each of the next 2 sts, 2 d c in next st, repeat from * 5 times, 1 d c in each of the next

34 sts, (31-37) 1 s d c in each of the next 97 sts, (94-100) 1 d c in each remaining st, join to 1st d c.

6th & 7th Rows —Ch 1 and work 1 s c in each st, break thread. Work another section in same manner. Insert inner soles between

crocheted sections and sew together.

Upper section is worked in star st. All straps are worked in same manner.

TOE STRAP —Ch 9 and work 3 star sts on ch, (star st; pick up and pull loop through the 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th st from needle

leaving all loops on needle, thread over and pull through all loops on needle, ch 1.) The ch 1 is termed the eye of the star st, * pick

up and pull loop through the eye of the st just made, side loop of star st, next 2 sts of ch, thread over and pull through all loops on

needle, ch 1, repeat from *.

2nd Row —Ch 3, turn, pick up the 2nd and 1st st of ch, side of star st, eye of next star st, thread over and pull through all loops on

needle, ch 1, * pick up eye of star st, side of star st just made, top of star st in previous row, eye of next star st in previous row,

thread over and pull through all loops on needle, ch 1, repeat from * until strap is 4 inches long, break thread. Work 2 more toe

straps, one strap measuring 4 ½ inches and the other 5 inches.

HEEL STRAPS —Work 3 straps 4 inches long.

CENTER TOE STRAP —7 inches long.

ANKLE STRAP —12 ½ inches long, then work buttonhole, work 6 s c over one end of strap, ch 6, turn, skip 5 s c, s c in next s c, ch

3, turn, and work 3 star sts on the ch 6, then work 1 row of s c all around, break thread.

TO MAKE SLIPPER —Sew the 4 inch toe strap to sole starting 1 ½ inches from center of toe, sew other side of strap to sole to

correspond. Sew 4 ½ inch strap to sole in same manner, sewing it about ½ inch from 1st strap. Sew 5 inch strap to sole ½ inch

from 2nd strap.

Sew center toe strap to sole at center of toe. Sew the 4 inch toe strap to center toe strap starting 2 inches from toe, sew other 2 toe

straps to center strap starting the 4 ½ inch strap about ¼ inch from 1st strap and the 5 inch strap about ½ inch from 2nd strap, then

turn under a 1 ½ inch loop at top of center toe strap and sew it in position. Turn the heel straps back to form a 1 ½ inch loop and

sew 1 heel strap to sole at center of heel, then sew other 2 heel straps at each side about 2 inches from center. Run the ankle

strap through the loops of the 3 heel straps and loop of center toe strap. Trim with sequins as illustrated. Sew button in position on

ankle strap.
