Hobbii Twister Solid. You can use bigger solids for bigger shawls if you so desire. -Colours you want to marl in. These can be however many you want. I’ve used 8 balls of Hobbii

Rainbow 8/4 in a rainbow like colour scheme. -For the adult version, I’ve used 1,5 fingering weight skeins in white and several leftovers and mini

skeins I had in stash. -A crochet hook. As you crochet with three strands at the same time, I went with a 5mm hook to

keep flexibility and drape in the crocheted fabric. If you don’t like the fabric you’re creating, change hooksize. If it’s too floppy, go smaller, if it’s too stiff go bigger.

-Scissors -Darning needle Abbrevations (US terms): Sc -single crochet Hdc – half double crochet Dc -double crochet Tr – treble crochet Ch1 – chain 1 Ch sp – chain space Sk 1 – skip 1 stitch Sl st – slip stitch St – stitch Inc – increase, sc, ch1, sc all in same stitch Shell – 6 tr in a st Big shell – instead of 6 tr, make 8 tr in st This shawl is made with various colours of yarns, you hold three strands at once and crochet with all

three at the same time. Every once in a while you’ll cut one strand and replace it with another colour. The schematic is as followed:

Yarns: ABB ABC ACC ACD ADD ADE AEE

AEF AFF AFG AGG AGH AHH AHI AII

A is the constant colour, that one is never cut and functions like a background on which you’ll paint your crochet marl. In the schematic you see you start with colours A en B, of which you need two

strands of B (BB). The B ball needs to be divided into two balls of equal weight. You need a scale for this, if you know the starting weight you can easily divide the ball in to two this way. Do so with every colour you want to marl in, excluding A. (You can add as many colors as you like this way.) There are no turning chains in this pattern, this makes for neater edges, but you can if you want to. There’s a picture page to clarify things in the beginning, in case you need it, I’ve put it at the end of

the pattern so you can decide to print it or not. The Pattern: With yarn A, B and B #1. Ch 3, close with a sl st to form ring #2. All in ring; 2 hdc, 2 dc, 1 tr, 2 dc, 2 hdc, turn. #3. Sc, ch1, sc all in first st, [this is the increase, from now on its written as inc.] Ch1 sk1, sc in next st, ch1 sk1, inc in top of triangle.

Ch1 sk1, sc in next st, ch1 sk1, inc in last st. Beware, this stitch is sometimes difficult to see. Turn.

#4. Inc in first ch sp, (Ch1 sk1, sc in next ch sp) twice. Ch1 sk1, inc in ch sp at the top of the triangle. (Ch1 sk1, sc in next ch sp) twice. Ch1 sk1, inc in last ch sp. Turn. #5.-#13. Repeat #4, making a ch1 sk1 sc in next ch sp along the sides of the shawl and making sure

to increase in the first chain space, the top of the triangle and the last chain space. Turn.

Time to introduce the new color now! #14. With A B and B on your hook, cut one B strand.

Take A,B and new strand C Inc in first ch sp .

(Ch1 sk1, sc in next ch sp) along the side of the triangle Inc at the top between the inc of the previous row (Ch1 sk1, sc in next ch sp) along the side of the triangle Inc in last ch sp. Turn #15.-#20. Repeat #14. #21. With A B and C on your hook, cut the B. Take the second strand of C. You now have A, C and

C as your strands. Inc in first ch sp .

(Ch1 sk1, sc in next ch sp) along the side of the triangle Inc at the top between the inc of the previous row (Ch1 sk1, sc in next ch sp) along the side of the triangle Inc in last ch sp. Turn. #22-#24. Repeat #16.

#25. With A,C and C on your hook, cut one strand of C. Take the new strand D. You now have A, C and new colour D as your strands.

Inc in first ch sp . (Ch1 sk1, sc in next ch sp) along the side of the triangle Inc at the top between the inc of the previous row (Ch1 sk1, sc in next ch sp) along the side of the triangle Inc in last ch sp. Turn. I think by now, you understand the pattern, it’s a matter of making it grow now, switching yarn when you get back to the start of a row every time you see fit, depending on how much yarn you have of every colour. You can add as many as you want or your amount of yarn allows. I even dropped and added a colour mid row if I ran out of a colour, it doesn’t matter where you do it, it’ll blend in nicely anyway. Once you’re done, you can make any border you like. I made mine with a shell stitch border, but the adult wool version had no border at all. To begin, make 3 sc in the corner stitch, skip next stitch. make the first shell in next stitch, skip a stitch, sl st in next stitch, *sk1, shell in next st, sk1, sl st* repeat until uou arrive at the center point chain space, big shell in ch sp, * sk1, shell in next st, sk1, sl st* until you have 6 stitches left. Sk1, shell in next st, sk1, and now either sl st in next st, or if you’ve reached the corner stitch, make 3 sc in corner st. Now, crochet sc’s across the top of the shawl until you’ve reached the other end. Cut yarns, sew in ends. Block for better drape.
