The Creation Lesson #1

THE ORIGINS OF THE UNIVERSE

Scientifics, historians, y philosophers have tried to explain the origins of the universe

People working in the field of science and other social fields try to explain How everything Started? When does it started?

However, the persons also want to know the answers for other more meaningful questions:

SOMETHING MORE MEANINGFUL The human being does not only question

HOW? and WHEN? the Universe was created

But also he/she wants to know WHO? AND WHY? Who Created it? Why was it Created? Why am I here ?

sooner or later every one will face these meaningful questions: Why am I here? Where we come from? And Where are we going?

And these questions, can only be answer in Faith.

AN IMPORTANT THING TO REMEMBER!!

It is very important to keep in mind that we can not read the Bible as we read a Science Book, a Math book, or A News Paper

Neither we should read it as a fairy tale, a fable, or something

that never happened

The Bible is a book that teaches us about The Story of Our salvation, the thru of our Faith, and Our relationship with God.

UNDERSTANDING THE STORY OF THE BIBLE

God is the author of the Bible, but he works through the human authors

The book of Genesis tells us how everything come to be, and why?

In order to understand what God want to tells us, we should know the Literary Form that author use.

Does the author intent to use Literal language or Figurative language?

Literal Language: is a language that it means exactly what it said.

Figurative language: has a more profound meaning; it is more than what a person says in the surface. Figurative language always uses symbols to convey meaning, and transmit its meaning.

A symbol: is a idea, or object that represents something else. A symbol is more than what is seems.

FIGURATIVE LANGUAGES AND SYMBOLS

Very important know, if the selection we are reading, is history, poetry, parable, etc.because all these type of Literary Forms are found in the Bible.

The author of the Genesis uses Figurative language to convey actual events that took place at the Beginning of the History .

Keep in mind, just because the author uses figurative languages, it doesn’t mean that what it is said is not Truth.

Also In order to understand the Story of “The Creation and the Fall”, we need to know

what are the symbols? and what does these symbols mean?

SYMBOLS OF CREATION The story the creation teaches very important

truths of faith.

It was build on symbols that were very familiar to Ancient Israelites

The authors used OBJECTS and ACTIONS as symbols

THE GARDEN: for the Israelites the garden was a symbol of happiness and God’s Grace

GRACE: Is a participation or sharing of God’s friendship, or God’s life inside of us.

The Garden filled with running water, beautiful plants and trees filled with fruit, shows God’s love for the first human beings.

SYMBOLS OF CREATION SERPENT: symbolo of devil.

The forbidden TREE and THE COMMAND: “No to eat of It” Symbolized our dependence on God We are God’s creatures, and Only in God we can find

True Happiness Only in God we can find Eternal Life

Taking the Fruit: Represent Rejection Of God and Rebellion Against Him. It Represents Disobedience Rejection of God’s Plan Adam y Eva disobey God’s Plan They gave into temptation because they thought their

choice would bring happiness

So The Original Sin is not about eating a piece of fruit; Adam and Eve DISOBEYED God’s Plan out of PRIDE

CHOOSING YOUR WILL OVER GOD’S WILL

PRIDE: is loving ourselves to much; it is loving ourselves more than God

Adam and Eve chose their OWN will over God by Making their own laws, and making their own will

they doubt of God goodness,

they doubt that God’s laws and commands are good

They doubt that only God really knows what is the best for us.

SIN CAUSE OF PRIDE, DISOBEDIENCE

We can see the same Pattern in all Sin

Sin is cause by Pride, Disobedience, and lack of trust in God

We think God doesn’t know what is best for us; we try to be like God and follow our own laws.

There is a lack of trust in God’s goodness because you think your way is better

So A good way to reject God, is to do what you want to do, instead of doing what God wants you to do.

MORE SYMBOLS OF CREATION We have said that in the book of Genesis, the author

used OBJECTS and ACTIONS as symbols to teach us important truths of Faith,

So the event, that Eve saw how beautiful the tree was, and imagined how delicious its fruit would be

It Helps us to understand that sin will present itself as something Attractive or interesting

Therefore we have to be very careful!

MORE SYMBOLS OF CREATION

The fact that they CHOSE to eat the forbidden fruit,

helps us to appreciate the POWER that humans had TO CHOOSE between good and evil.

And show us that evil and suffering enter into our world through the humans choice to disobey God.

Adam and Eve being send out of the garden, reflects the consequences of turning away from

God and the loss of God’s GRACE.

DOES SCIENCE CAN PROVE OUR CREATION STORY?

Remember The Bible is not a Science Book.

We have seen that the passages on the Bible have a more profound meaning.

WE have to be careful comparing apples and oranges

By comparing apples and oranges, we may be mislead to a false conclusion, where an apple is faulted for not being a good orange.

THE BOOK OF GENESIS IS NOT TRYING TO ANSWER SCIENTIFIC QUESTIONS

Keep in mind, the authors of the Book of Genesis are not trying to answer scientific questions;

They are answering more meaningful questions: Questions of Faith and purpose of life.

The Story of the Creation is written in a simple and poetic form; the author use Figurative Language

And each event has a message

The Author does not pretend, we take the Creation in a Literal language. For example: the word Day does not mean

literally 24 hrs 7 days of the Creation, simply mean the frame

work, within the authors set up the story.

RIGHT ANSWERS, RIGHT SOURCE OF INFORMATION

Each question that we have in our daily life, we need to addressed it, with the right and appropriate source of information

Indeed when someone Cooks a dish and has some questions about it, she will not look at a scientific book or a math book…

When somebody wants to know about plants and gardens, or mechanic parts and autos, he will not look in a history or social book…

The same happens with questions about the purpose of humans existence in the universe, and God’s Plan of Salvation.

Therefore, any questions about the Purpose of Life and Truths of Faith… can only be answered assertively by the Sacred Scriptures: The Bible.
