Question 1
How is an eBook different from an iBook?
2
eBooks are digital books designed for use on a variety of devices. They can include text, images, and even be interactive. Video and audio can be embedded so that an internet connection is not necessary when viewing the book.
iBooks are also interactive books. However, iBooks are Apple products that are available for download through the iTunes Bookstore. iBooks are created using iBooks Author software found only on Mac computers.

Images are an engaging component in any type of paper or digital book. However, the fact that videos can be linked or embedded into an iBook affords the viewer a dynamic and 21st century learning experience.
There are many sources for finding tutorials and educational videos on-line, however the challenge is being able to actually download and embed the video into the iBook. Therefore, another option for including videos in your book is to simply create a link out to the video.
This would work well under the assumption that viewer has internet access.

Establishing a Work Flow
17
It is necessary to establish a work flow in order to be efficient and organized while creating an iBook. Use folders to streamline content, images, and videos into one location. Drag and drop information into organized chapters, sections, and pages. Last, use the preview option on the tool bar to see how the iBook will interact on the iPad.

After you’ve created an iBook, chances are you’ll want to share it with someone. There are many different options for making your iBook available to viewers.
Google Drive is an excellent option because it is free and accessible from computers, laptops, and hand held devices. Books can be organized into designated folders within Google Drive and then downloaded into the iBooks Library on the iPad. Updating any content of the books is also relatively easy to do while using Google Drive.
Many school districts are moving to an on- line classroom management system such as Schoology, Edmodo, Blackboard, etc. Most of these programs support teacher-created iBooks for download and distribution to students.
Apple Configurator is an option for sharing iBooks if there is a set of classroom iPads that are synced with a Mac computer.
The iTunes Store is a way in which to distribute iBooks to a wider audience. An account needs to be created and the books
can be listed as free or for purchase.

Take it one step further by designing and implementing an entire course on iTunes U. Create and publish complete courses that feature iBooks, assignments, and assessments that are customized and tailored to the needs and interests of your students.
