What is the Challenge?

To make a Wall Hanging (as defi ned as a fabric sandwich of two or more layers held together with stitching) showing your interpretation of Music. The Wall Hanging can be a quilt, felt-work, embroidery or other textile medium as long as it includes fabric and thread as a major component. The quilt must be your own original work.

What size must the Challenge entry be?

The entry must fi t inside the perimeter of an A2 sized sheet of paper (594 x 420mm or 23.4 x 16.5 inches). It can be landscape or portrait and not necessarily a rectangle.

Who can enter?

Entry to the Challenge is open to everyone in New Zealand, except Bernina New Zealand Limited staff, Bernina Sewing Centres and their current staff.

When and where do the entries need to be received?

All entries must be received by your Bernina Sewing Centre by 31 October 2013. The Sewing Centre will select a winner and a second entry they consider the most humorous.Both Wall Hangings will be sent to Bernina New Zealand Ltd who will select an overall winner, which will be announced by 8 November 2013.

The decisions of Bernina New Zealand Limited and its Sewing Centres are fi nal and no correspondence will be entered into.

Wall Hangings in the most humorous category will be put forward for a People’s Choice Award, the voting for which will take place on www.facebook.com/welovetosew

How long will my Wall Hanging be away if it wins?

Bernina New Zealand Limited will retain all the winning Wall Hangings from the Bernina Sewing Centres for one year for publicity purposes. This includes the right to publish images of the winning Wall Hangings in electronic or printed media.

What are the labelling and hanging requirements?

Include your Wall Hanging’s title, your name, address and phone number, and the Bernina Sewing Centre’s name clearly on the label on the back of your wall hanging. Your hanging sleeve should be 10cm deep on the top edge. Place your Wall Hanging in a labelled, closable cloth bag.

What are the Liabilities and Insurances?

Bernina New Zealand Limited and its Sewing Centres are not liable for any loss, damage or destruction of any challenge Wall Hangings however such loss, damage or destruction is caused, including any negligent act or omission, fault or cause. Insurance is the responsibility of the entrant at all times.

What is the prize for the overall winner?

The overall winner will receive a Bernina 550 sewing machine with a Retail Value of $4,699. The Wall Hanging judged the most humorous in a People’s Choice Award format will receive a Bernina 380 sewing machine with a Retail Value of $2,799.
