LIMITED TWO YEAR WARRANTY ON CRAFTSMAN POWER MOWER

For two years from date of purchase, when this Craftsman Lawn Mower is maintained,lubricated, and tuned up according to the operating and maintenance instructions in theowner's manual, Sears will repair free of charge any defect in material or workmanship.

If this Craftsman Lawn Mower is used for commercial or rental purposes, this warrantyapplies for only 90 days from the date of purchase.

This Warranty does not cover:• Expendable items which become worn during normal use, such as rotary mower

blades, blade adapters, belts, air cleaners and spark plug.• Repairs necessary because of operator abuse or negligence, including bent crank-

shafts and the failure to maintain the equipment according to the instructions con-tained in the owner's manual.

Warranty service is available by returning the Craftsman power mower to the nearest SearsParts & Repair Center in the United States. This warranty applies only while this productis used in the United States.

This Warranty gives you specific legal rights, and you may also have other rights whichvary from state to state.

I. GENERAL OPERATION

• Read, understand, and follow allinstructions on the machine and in the

manual(s) before starting. Be thoroughlyfamiliar with the controls and the properuse of the machine before starting.

• Do not put hands or feet near or underrotating parts. Keep clear of the dis-charge opening at all times.

• Only allow responsible individuals, whoare familiar with the instructions, to oper-ate the machine.

• Clear the area of objects such as rocks,toys, wire, bones, sticks, etc., whichcould be picked up and thrown by blade.

• Be sure the area is clear of other peoplebefore mowing. Stop machine if anyoneenters the area.

• Do not operate the mower when bare-foot or wearing open sandals. Alwayswear substantial foot wear.

• Do not pull mower backwards unlessabsolutely necessary. Always look downand behind before and while movingbackwards.

• Never direct discharged material towardanyone. Avoid discharging materialagainst a wall or obstruction. Materialmay richochet back toward the opera-tor. Stop the blade when crossing gravelsurfaces.

• Do not operate the mower withoutproper guards, plates, grass catcher orother safety protective devices in place.

• See manufacturer's instructions for

proper operation and installation ofaccessories. Only use accessories ap-proved by the manufacturer.

• Stop the blade(s) when crossing graveldrives, walks, or roads.

• Stop the engine (motor) whenever youleave the equipment, before cleaning themower or unclogging the chute.

• Shut the engine (motor) off and wait untilthe blade comes to complete stop beforeremoving grass catcher.

• Mow only in daylight or good artificiallight.

• Do not operate the machine while underthe influence of alcohol or drugs.

• Never operate machine in wet grass.Always be sure of your footing: keep afirm hold on the handle; walk, never run.

• Disengage the self-propelled mech-anism or drive clutch on mowers so

equipped before starting the engine.• If the equipment should start to vibrate

abnormally, stop the engine (motor) andcheck immediately for the cause. Vibra-tion is generally a warning of trouble.

• Always wear safety goggles or safetyglasses with side shields when operatingmower.

II. SLOPE OPERATION

Slopes are a major factor related to slip &fall accidents which can result in severe in-

jury. All slopes require extra caution. If youfeel uneasy on a slope, do not mow it.DO:

• Mow across the face of slopes: neverup and down. Exercise extreme cautionwhen changing direction on slopes.

• Remove obstacles such as rocks, treelimbs, etc.

• Watch for holes, ruts, or bumps. Tallgrass can hide obstacles.

DO NOT:

• Do not trim near drop-offs, ditches orembankments. The operator could losefooting or balance.

• Do not trim excessively steep slopes.• Do not mow on wet grass. Reduced foot-

ing could cause slipping.

III. CHILDREN

Tragic accidents can occur if the operatoris not alert to the presence of children.Children are often attracted to the machineand the mowing activity. Never assumethat children will remain where you lastsaw them.• Keep children out of the trimming area

and under the watchful care of another

responsible adult.• Be alert and turn machine off if children

enter the area.

• Before and while walking backwards,look behind and down for small children.

• Never allow children to operate the ma-chine.

• Use extra care when approaching blindcorners, shrubs, trees, or other objectsthat may obscure vision.

IV. SAFE HANDLING OF GASOLINE

Use extreme care in handling gasoline.Gasoline is extremely flammable and thevapors are explosive.• Extinguish all cigarettes, cigars, pipes

and other sources of ignition.• Use only an approved container.• Never remove gas cap or add fuel with

the engine running. Allow engine to coolbefore refueling.

• Never refuel the machine indoors.• Never store the machine or fuel contain-

er where there is an open flame, sparkor pilot light such as a water heater or onother appliances.

• Neverfill containersinsidea vehicle,ona truck or trailerbed with a plastic liner.Alwaysplacecontainerson the groundawayfrom yourvehiclebeforefilling.

• Removegas-poweredequipmentfromthe truck or trailer and refuel it on theground. If this is not possible,thenrefuelsuch equipmentwith a portablecontainer,ratherthan from a gasolinedispensernozzle.

• Keepthe nozzle in contactwith the rimof the fuel tank or containeropeningatall times until fueling is complete. Donot use a nozzle lock-opendevice.

• If fuel is spilled on clothing,changeclothingimmediately.

• Neveroverfillfuel tank. Replacegascap and tightensecurely.

V. GENERAL SERVICE• Never run a machine inside a closed

area.• Never make adjustments or repairs with

the engine (motor) running. Disconnectthe spark plug wire, and keep the wireaway from the plug to prevent accidentalstarting.

• Keep nuts and bolts, especially bladeattachment bolts, tight and keep equip-ment in good condition.

• Never tamper with safety devices. Checktheir proper operation regularly.

• Keep machine free of grass, leaves, orother debris build-up. Clean oil or fuelspillage. Allow machine to cool beforestoring.

• Stop and inspect the equipment if youstrike an object. Repair, if necessary,before restarting.

• Never attempt to make wheel heightadjustments while the engine is running.

• Grass catcher components are subjectto wear, damage, and deterioration,which could expose moving parts orallow objects to be thrown. Frequentlycheck components and replace withmanufacturer's recommended parts,when necessary.

• Mower blades are sharp and can cut.Wrap the blade(s) or wear gloves, anduse extra caution when servicing them.

• Do not change the engine governor set-ting or overspeed the engine.

• Maintain or replace safety and instruc-tion labels, as necessary.

sembled at the factory with the excep-tion of those parts left unassembled forshipping purposes. TO REMOVE MOWER FROM

1. Remove loose parts included withmower.

2. Cut down two end corners of carton

and lay end panel down flat.3. Remove all packing materials except

padding between upper and lowerhandle and padding holding operatorpresence control bar to upper handle.

4. Roll lawn mower out of carton and

check carton thoroughly for additionalloose parts.

HOWTO SET UPYOUR MOWERTO UNFOLD HANDLE

IMPORTANT: Unfold handle carefully soas not to pinch or damage control cables.1. Raise handles until lower handle sec-

tion locks into place in mowing position.2. Remove protective padding, raise up-

per handle section into place on lowerhandle and tighten both handle knobs.

3. Remove handle padding holdingoperator presence control bar to upperhandle.

HOWTO USEYOUR LAWN MOWERENGINE SPEED

The engine speed was set at the factoryfor optimum performance. Speed is notadjustable.

ENGINE ZONE CONTROL

_I, CAUTION: Federal regulations requirean engine control to be installed on thislawn mower in order to minimize therisk of blade contact injury. Do not underany circumstances attempt to defeat thefunction of the operator control. The bladeturns when the engine is running.• Your lawn mower is equipped with an

operator presence control bar whichrequires the operator to be positionedbehind the lawn mower handle to start

and operate the lawn mower.

TO ADJUST CUTTING HEIGHT

Raise wheels for low cut and lower wheels

for high cut, adjust cutting height to suityour requirements. Medium position isbest for most lawns.

• To change cutting height, squeeze ad-juster lever toward wheel. Move wheelup or down to suit your requirements.Be sure all wheels are in the same set-ting.

NOTE: Adjuster is properly positionedwhen plate tab inserts into hole in lever.Also, 9-position adjusters (if so equipped)allow lever to be positioned between theplate tabs.

BEFORE STARTING ENGINE

ADD OIL

Your lawnmower is shipped without oil inthe engine. For type and grade of oil touse, see "ENGINE" in the Maintenancesection of this manual.A CAUTION: DO NOT overfill engine withoil, or it will smoke heavily from the muffleron startup.1. Be sure lawnmower is level.

2. Remove oil dipstick from oil fill spout.3. You receive a container of oil with the

unit. Slowly pour the entire containerdown the oil fill spout into the engine.

NOTE: Initial oil fill requires only 18 oz.due to residual oil in engine from themanufacturers 100% quality testing. Whenchanging oil you may need 20 oz.4. Insert and tighten dipstick.IMPORTANT:• Check oil level before each use. Add oil

if needed. Fill to full line on dipstick.• Change the oil after every 25 hours of

operation or each season. You mayneed to change the oil more oftenunder dusty, dirty conditions. See "TOCHANGE ENGINE OIL:' in the Mainte-nance section of this manual.

ADD GASOLINE

• Fill fuel tank to bottom of tank filler neck.

Do not overfill. Use fresh, clean, regularunleaded gasoline with a minimum of87 octane. Do not mix oil with gasoline.Purchase fuel in quantities that can beused within 30 days to assure fuel fresh-ness.

A CAUTION: Wipe off any spilled oil orfuel. Do not store, spill or use gasolinenear an open flame.• IL CAUTION: Alcohol blended fuels

(called gasohol or using ethanol or metha-nol) can attract moisture which leads toseparation and formation of acids duringstorage. Acidic gas can damage the fuelsystem of an engine while in storage. Toavoid engine problems, the fuel systemshould be emptied before storage of 30days or longer. Empty the gas tank, startthe engine and let it run until the fuel linesand carburetor are empty. Use fresh fuelnext season. See Storage Instructions foradditional information. Never use engineor carburetor cleaner products in the fueltank or permanent damage may occur.

TO STOP ENGINE

• To stop engine, release operator pres-ence control bar.

TO START ENGINE

NOTE: Due to protective coatings on theengine, a small amount of smoke may bepresent during the initial use of the productand should be considered normal.

1. To start a cold engine, push primerthree (3) times before trying to start.Use a firm push. This step is notusually necessary when starting anengine which has already run for a fewminutes.

2. Hold operator presence control bardown to the handle and pull starterhandle quickly. Do not allow starterrope to snap back.

NOTE: In cooler weather it may be neces-sary to repeat priming steps. In warmerweather over priming may cause floodingand engine will not start. If you do floodengine, wait a few minutes before attempt-ing to start and do not repeat primingsteps.

MOWING TIPSCAUTION: Do not usede-thatcher

bladeattachmentson your mower.Suchattachmentsare hazardous,will damageyour mowerand couldvoid yourwarranty.• Under certain conditions, such as very

tall grass, it may be necessary to raisethe height of cut to reduce pushingeffort and to keep from overloading theengine and leaving clumps of grass clip-pings. It may also be necessary to re-duce ground speed and/or run the lawnmower over the area a second time.

• For extremely heavy cutting, reduce thewidth of cut by overlapping previouslycut path and mow slowly.

• For better grass bagging and most cut-ting conditions, the engine speed shouldbe set in the FAST position.

• For side discharge lawn mowers, cuttingin a counter-clockwise direction, start-ing at the outside of the area to be cut,spreads grass clippings more evenlyand puts less load on the engine. Tokeep clippings off of walkways, flowerbeds, etc., make the first cuts in a clock-wise direction.

• Pores in cloth grass catchers can be-come filled with dirt and dust with use

and catchers will collect less grass. Toprevent this, regularly hose catcher offwith water and let dry before using.

• Keep top of engine around starter clearand clean of grass clippings and chaff.This will help engine air flow and extendengine life.

MULCHING MOWING TIPS

IMPORTANT: For best performance,keep mower housing free of built-upgrass and trash. See "CLEANING" in theMaintenance section of this manual.

• The special mulching blade will recutthe grass clippings many times andreduce them in size so that as they fallonto the lawn they will disperse intothe grass and not be noticed. Also, themulched grass will biodegrade quicklyto provide nutrients for the lawn. Alwaysmulch with your highest engine (blade)speed as this will provide the best recut-ting action of the blades.

• Avoid cutting your lawn when it is wet.Wet grass tends to form clumps andinterferes with the mulching action. Thebest time to mow your lawn is the earlyafternoon. At this time the grass hasdried, yet the newly cut area will not beexposed to direct sunlight.

• For best results, adjust the lawn mowercutting height so that the lawn mowercuts off only the top one-third of thegrass blades. If the lawn is overgrown itwill be necessary to raise the height ofcut to reduce pushing effort and to keepfrom overloading the engine and leavingclumps of mulched grass. For extremelyheavy grass, reduce your width of cutby overlapping previously cut path andmow slowly.

• Certain types of grass and grassconditions may require that an area bemulched a second time to completelyhide the clippings. When doing a sec-ond cut, mow across (perpendicular) tothe first cut path.

• Change your cutting pattern from weekto week. Mow north to south one week

then change to east to west the nextweek. This will help prevent matting andgraining of the lawn.

GENERAL RECOMMENDATIONS

The warranty on this lawn mower does notcover items that have been subjected tooperator abuse or negligence. To receivefull value from the warranty, operator mustmaintain unit as instructed in this manual.

Some adjustments will need to be madeperiodically to properly maintain your unit.

At least once a season, check to see ifyou should make any of the adjustmentsdescribed in the Service and Adjustmentssection of this manual.

• At least once a year, replace the sparkplug, clean or replace air filter elementand check blade for wear. A new sparkplug and clean/new air filter elementassure proper air-fuel mixture and helpyour engine run better and last longer.

• Follow the maintenance schedule in thismanual.

IMPORTANT: Do not oil or grease plasticwheel bearings. Viscous lubricants willattract dust and dirt that will shorten the life of

the self-lubricating bearings. If you feel theymust be lubricated, use only a dry, powdered

1 1graphite type lubricant sparingly.

TIRES

• Keep tires free of gasoline, oil, or insectcontrol chemicals which can harm rub-ber.

• Avoid stumps, stones, deep ruts, sharpobjects and other hazards that maycause tire damage.

BLADE CARE

For best results, mower blade must bekept sharp. Replace a bent or damagedblade.

TO REMOVE BLADE

1. Disconnect spark plug wire from sparkplug and place wire where it cannotcome in contact with plug.

2. Turn lawn mower on its side. Make

sure air filter and carburetor are up.3. Use a wood block between blade and

mower housing to prevent blade fromturning when removing blade bolt.

NOTE: Protect your hands with glovesand/or wrap blade with heavy cloth.4. Remove blade bolt by turning counter-

clockwise.

5. Remove blade and attaching hard-ware (bolt, lock washer and hardenedwasher).

NOTE: Remove the blade adapter andcheck the key inside hub of blade adapter.The key must be in good condition to workproperly. Replace adapter if damaged.

TO REPLACE BLADE

1. Position the blade adapter on the en-gine crankshaft. Be sure key in adapterand crankshaft keyway are aligned.

2. Position blade on the blade adapteraligning the two (2) holes in the bladewith the raised lugs on the adapter.

3. Be sure the trailing edge of blade (op-posite sharp edge) is up toward theengine.

4. Install the blade bolt with the lockwasher and hardened washer into

blade adapter and crankshaft.5. Use block of wood between blade and

lawn mower housing and tighten theblade bolt, turning clockwise.

• The recommended tightening torque is35-40 ft. Ibs.

IMPORTANT: Blade bolt is heat treated.

If bolt needs replacing, replace only withapproved bolt shown in the Repair Partssection of this manual.

TO SHARPEN BLADE

NOTE: We do not recommend sharpeningblade - but if you do, be sure the blade isbalanced.

Care should be taken to keep the bladebalanced. An unbalanced blade will

cause eventual damage to lawn mower orengine.• The blade can be sharpened with a file

or on a grinding wheel. Do not attemptto sharpen while on the mower.

• To check blade balance, drive a nail intoa beam or wall. Leave about one inch ofthe straight nail exposed. Place centerhole of blade over the head of the nail.If blade is balanced, it should remain ina horizontal position. If either end of theblade moves downward, sharpen theheavy end until the blade is balanced.

GRASS CATCHER

(If purchased as an accessory)• The grass catcher may be hosed with

water, but must be dry when used.• Checkyourgrasscatcheroftenfordamage

or deterioration. Through normal use itwillwear. If catcher needs replacing, replaceonly with approved replacement catchershown in the Repair Parts section of thismanual. Give the lawn mower modelnumber when ordering.

Use only high quality detergent oil rated withAPI service classification SG-SL. Select the

oil's SAE viscosity grade according to yourexpected operating temperature.

NOTE: Although multi-viscosity oils (5W30,10W30 etc.)improve starting in cold weather,they will result in increased oil consumptionwhen used above 32°F. Check your engineoil level more frequently to avoid possibleengine damage from running low on oil.Change the oil after every 25 hours of opera-tion orat least once a year if the lawn moweris not used for 25 hours in one year.Check the crankcase oil level before

starting the engine and after each five (5)hours of continuous use. Tighten oil plugsecurely each time you check the oil level.

TO CHANGE ENGINE OIL

NOTE: Before tipping lawn mower to drainoil, empty fuel tank by running engine untilfuel tank is empty.1. Disconnect spark plug wire from spark

plug and place wire where it cannotcome in contact with plug.

2. Remove engine oil cap; lay aside on aclean surface.

3. Tip lawn mower on its side as shownand drain oil into a suitable container.Rock lawn mower back and forth to re-

move any oil trapped inside of engine.

TO CHANGE AIR FILTER

1. Remove the air filter by turning coun-terclockwise to the stop and pull awayfrom collar.

2. Remove filter from inside of cover.3. Clean the inside of the cover and the

collar to remove any dirt accumulation.4. Insert new filter into cover.5. Put air filter cover and filter into collar

aligning the tab with the slot.6. Push in on cover and turn clockwise to

Inspect and replace corroded muffler as itcould create a fire hazard and/or damage.

SPARK PLUG

Replace spark plug at the beginning ofeach mowing season or after every 100hours of operation, whichever occursfirst. Spark plug type and gap settingare shown in the "PRODUCT SPECIFIC-ATIONS" section of this manual.

4. Wipe off any spilled oil from lawnmower or side of engine.

5. Slowly pour oil down the oil fill spout,stopping every few ounces to check theoil level with the dipstick.

6. Stop adding oil when you reach theFULL mark on the dipstick. Wait aminute to allow oil to settle.

7. Continue adding small amounts of oil,rechecking the dipstick until oil levelsettles at FULL. DO NOT overfill, orengine will smoke heavily from the muf-fler on startup.

8. Always be sure to retighten oil dipstickbefore starting engine.

9. Reconnect spark plug wire to plug.AIR FILTER

Your engine will not run properly and maybe damaged by using a dirty air filter. Re-place the air filter every 100 hours of op-eration or every season, whichever occursfirst. Service air cleaner more often under

dusty conditions. Do not wash air filter.

CLEANING

IMPORTANT: For best performance, keepmower housing free of built-grass andtrash. Clean the underside of your mowerafter each use.

_IbCAUTION: Disconnect spark plug wirefrom spark plug and place wire where itcannot come in contact with plug.

• Clean the underside of your lawn mowerby scraping to remove build-up of grassand trash.

• Clean engine often to keep trash fromaccumulating. A clogged engine runshotter and shortens engine life.

• Keep finished surfaces and wheels freeof all gasoline, oil, etc.

• We do not recommend using a gardenhose to clean lawn mower unless the

electrical system, muffler, air filter andcarburetor are covered to keep waterout. Water in engine can result in short-ened engine life.13

_WARNING: To avoid serious injury,before performing any service or adjust-ments:

1. Release control bar and stop engine.2. Make sure the blade and all moving

parts have completely stopped.3. Disconnect spark plug wire from spark

plug and place wire where it cannotcome in contact with plug.

LAWN MOWER

REAR DEFLECTOR

The rear deflector, attached between therear wheels of your mower, is provided tominimize the possibility that objects willbe thrown out of the rear of the mowerinto the operator's mowing position. If thedeflector becomes damaged, it should bereplaced.

DISCHARGE GUARD

The discharge guard, attached to thedischarge opening of your lawn mower, isprovided to prevent the possibility of injuryresulting from objects being thrown out ofthe discharge opening into the operatormowing position. If the discharge guardbecomes damaged, it should be replaced.

TO ADJUST HANDLE

The handle can be mounted in a high orlow position. The mounting holes in thebottom of lower handle are off center forraising or lowering the handle.1. Remove upper handle and all wire

tie(s) securing cable(s) to lower handle.2. Remove hairpin cotters from lower

handle bracket mounting pin.3. Squeeze lower handle in to remove it

from mounting pins.4. Turn lower handle over to raise or

lower handle.

5. Squeeze lower handle in and positionholes onto mounting pins on handlebracket.

6. Reassemble upper handle and allparts removed from lower handle.

Your engine speed has been factory set.Do not attempt to increase engine speedor it may result in personal injury. If youbelieve that engine is running too fast ortoo slow, take your mower to a Sears orother qualified service center for repairand adjustment.

CARBU RETOR

Your carburetor has a non-adjustablefixed main jet for mixture control. If yourengine does not operate properly due tosuspected carburetor problems, take yourlawn mower to a Sears or other qualifiedservice center for repair and/or adjust-ment.

IMPORTANT: Never tamper with theengine governor, which is factory setfor proper engine speed. Overspeedingthe engine above the factory high speedsetting can be dangerous. If you thinkthe engine-governed high speed needsadjusting, contact a Sears or otherqualified service center, which has properequipment and experience to make anynecessary adjustments.

Immediately prepare your lawn mower forstorage at the end of the season or if theunit will not be used for 30 days or more.

LAWN MOWER

When lawn mower is to be stored for a

period of time, clean it thoroughly, removeall dirt, grease, leaves, etc. Store in aclean, dry area.1. Clean entire lawn mower (See

"CLEANING" in the Maintenance sec-tion of this manual).

2. Lubricate as shown in the Maintenancesection of this manual.

3. Be sure that all nuts, bolts, screws, andpins are securely fastened. Inspectmoving parts for damage, breakageand wear. Replace if necessary.

4. Touch up all rusted or chipped paintsurfaces; sand lightly before painting.

HANDLE

You can fold your lawn mower handle forstorage.NOTE: The upper handle has an "anti-fold"bracket located on the right side of thehandle. This bracket prevents the upperhandle from folding forward, which helpsprotect control cable(s) from damage.1. Squeeze the bottom ends of the lower

handle toward each other until the

lower handle clears the handle bracket,then move handle forward.

2. Loosen upper handle mounting boltsenough to allow upper handle to befolded back.

IMPORTANT: When folding the handle forstorage or transportation, be sure to fold itas shown or you may damage the controlcables.• When setting up your handle from the

storage position, the lower handle will au-tomatically lock into the mowing position.

FUEL SYSTEM

IMPORTANT: It is important to preventgum deposits from forming in essentialfuel system parts such as carburetor, fuelfilter, fuel hose, or tank during storage.Alcohol blended fuels (called gasohol orusing ethanol or methanol) can attractmoisture which leads to separation andformation of acids during storage. Acidicgas can damage the fuel system of anengine while in storage.

• Empty the fuel tank by starting the en-gine and let it run until the fuel lines andcarburetor are empty.

• Never use engine or carburetor cleanerproducts in the fuel tank or permanentdamage may occur.

• Use fresh fuel next season.NOTE: Fuel stabilizer is an acceptablealternative in minimizing the formation offuel gum deposits during storage. Addstabilizer to gasoline in fuel tank or stor-age container. Always follow the mix ratiofound on stabilizer container. Run engineat least 10 minutes after adding stabilizerto allow the stabilizer to reach the car-

buretor. Do not empty the gas tank andcarburetor if using fuel stabilizer.

ENGINE OIL

Drain oil (with engine warm) and replacewith clean engine oil. (See "ENGINE" inthe Maintenance section of this manual).

CYLINDER

1. Remove spark plug.

2. Pour one ounce (29 ml) of oil throughspark plug hole into cylinder.

3. Pull starter handle slowly a few timesto distribute oil.

4. Replace with new spark plug.

OTHER

• Do not store gasoline from one seasonto another.

• Replace your gasoline can if your canstarts to rust. Rust and/or dirt in yourgasoline will cause problems.

• If possible, store your unit indoors andcover it to protect it from dust and dirt.

• Cover your unit with a suitable protec-tive cover that does not retain moisture.Do not use plastic. Plastic cannotbreathe, which allows condensation toform and will cause your unit to rust.

IMPORTANT: Never cover mower whileengine and exhaust areas are still warm.A, CAUTION: Never store the lawn mower

with gasoline in the tank inside a buildingwhere fumes may reach an open flameor spark. Allow the engine to cool beforestoring in any enclosure.

I. OPERACION• Antes de empezar, debe familiarizarse

completamente con los controles y el usocorrecto de la maquina. Para esto, debe leery comprender todas las instrucciones queaparecen en la maquina yen los manualesde operacion.

II. OPERACION SOBRE LAS CUESTASLos accidentes ocurren con mas frecuencia enlas cuestas. Estos accidentes ocurren debido aresbaladas o caidas, las cuales pueden resultaren graves lesiones. Operar la recortadora encuestas requiere mayor concentraci6n. Si sesiente inseguro en una cuesta, no la recorte.HACER:• Puede recortar a traves de la superficie de

la cuesta, nunca hacia arriba y hacia abajo.Proceda con extrema precauci6n cuandocambie de direcci6n en las cuestas.

• Renueva todos los objetos extraSos, talescomo guijarros, ramas, etc.

• Debe prestar atenci6n a hoyos, baches oprotuberancias. Recuerde que la hierba altapuede esconder obstaculos.

NO HACER:• No recorte cerca de pendientes, zanjas o

terraplenes. El operador puede perder latraccion en los pies o el equilibrio.

• No recorte cuestas demasiado inclinadas.• No recorte en hierba mojada. La reducci6n

en la traccion de la pisada puede causarresbalones.

III. NINOSSe pueden producir accidentes tragicos si eloperador no presta atenci6n a la presenciade los niSos. A menudo, los niSos se sientenatraidos por la maquina y por la actividad dela siega. Nunca suponga que los ni5os van apermanecer en el mismo lugar donde los viopor Qltima vez.• Mantenga a los ni5os alejados del _lrea de

la siega y bajo el cuidado estricto de otrapersona adulta responsable.

• Este alerta y apague la maquina si hay ni5osque entran al area.

• Antes y cuando este retrocediendo, mirehacia atr_ls y hacia abajo para verificar si hayniSos peque5os.

IV, MANEJO SEGURO DE GASOLINAUsar mucha atencion cuando se maneja gaso-lina. La gasolina es extremamente inflamable y

los vapores son explosivos.• Apagar todos los cigarrillos, cigarros, pipas y

otras fuentes de ignici6n.• Usar solo un contenedor apropiado.• Nunca quitar el tap6n de la gasolina o a5adir

carburante con el motor en marcha. Esperarque el motor se enfrie antes de repostar lagasolina.

• Nunca repostar la maquina al interior de unlocal.

• Nunca guardar la maquina o el contenedorde gasolina donde hay una llama abierta,chispa o luz piloto como una caldera u otrosdispositivos.

• Nunca Ilenar contenedores en un vehiculo,en un camion o caravana con un forro deplastico. Colocar siempre los contenedoresen el suelo lejos de su vehiculo antes deIlenar.

• Quitar equipos que funcionan con gasolinadel camion o caravana y repostar en el suelo.Si esto no es posible, repostar dicho equipocon un contenedor portatil, mas bien que conuna tobera de gasolina.

• Mantener la tobera en contacto con el bordodel dep6sito de carburante o de la aperturadel contenedor siempre hasta terminar elabastecimiento. No usar un dispositivo decierre-apertura de la tobera.

• Si el carburante cae en la ropa que se Ileva,cambiarsela inmediatamente.

• Nunca Ilenar en exceso el dep6sito decarburante. Colocar el tap6n de la gasolina yapretar de modo seguro.

V. SERVIClO• Nunca haga funcionar una maquina dentro

de un area cerrada.• Nunca haga ajustes o reparaciones mientras

el motor este en marcha. Desconecte elcable de la bujia, y mantengalo a ciertadistancia de esta para prevenir un arranqueaccidental.

• Mantenga las tuercas y los pernos, espe-cialmente los pernos del accesorio de lacuchilla, apretados y mantenga el equipo enbuenas condiciones.

Lea estas instrucciones y este manual comple-tamente antes de tratar de montar u operar susegadora nueva.IMPORTANTE: Este cortacesped viene SINACEITE O GASOLINA en el motor.

Su segadora nueva ha sido montada en lafabrica con la excepcion de aqueNas partes quese dejaron sin montar por razones de envio.Todas las partes como las tuercas, las arande-las, los pernos, etc., que son necesarias paracompletar el montaje han sido colocadas en labolsa de partes. Para asegurarse que su sega-dora funcione en forma segura y adecuada,todas las partes y los articulos de ferreteria quese monten tienen que ser apretados segura-mente. Use las herramientas correctas, comosea necesario, para asegurar que se aprietenadecuadamente.

PARA REMOVER LA SEGADORA DELA CAJA DE CARTON1. Remueva las partes sueltas que se incluyen

con la segadora.2. Corte las dos esquinas de los extremos

de la caja de cart6n y tienda el panel delextremo piano.

3. Remueva todo el material de empaque, ex-cepto la curia entre el mango superior y elinferior, y la curia que sujeta la barra de loscontrol que exige la presencia del operadorjunto con el mango superior.

4. Haga rodar la segadora hacia afuera de lacaja de cart6n y revisela cuidadosamentepara verificar si todavia quedan partessueltas adicionales.

COMO PREPARAR SU SEGADORAPARA DESDOBLAR EL MANGOIMPORTANTE: Oespliegue el mango conmucho cuidado para no pellizcar o dafiar loscables de control.1. Levante los mangos hasta que la secci6n

del mango inferior se asegure en su lugar,en la posici6n para segar.

2. Remueva la curia protectora, levante la sec-ci6n del mango superior hasta su lugar enel mango inferior, y apriete ambas manillasdel mango.

3. Remueva la curia del mango que sujeta labarra de los control que exige la presenciadel operador junto con el mango superior.

El mango de la segadora puede ajustarsesegQn le acomode para segar. Refierase a"AJUSTE DEL MANGO" en la secci6n deServicio y Ajustes de este manual.

use anteojos de seguridad o proteccion paralos ojos mientras opere su segadora o cuandohaga ajustes o reparaciones. Recomendamosgafas o una mascara de seguridad de visionamplia de seguridad usada sobre las gafas.

COMO USAR SU SEGADORAVELOCIDAD DEL MOTORLa velocidad del motor se estableci6 en la fa-brica para un rendimiento 6ptimo. La velocidadno se puede ajustar.

CONTROL DE ZONA DEL MOTORPRECAUCION: Las regulaciones federales

exigen que se instale un control para el motoren esta segadora para reducir a un minimo elriesgo de lesionarse debido al contacto con lacuchilla. Per ningQn motivo trate de eliminarla funci6n del control del operador. La cuchillagira cuando el motor esta funcionando.• Su segadora viene equipada con una barra

de controles que exigen la presencia deloperador, Io que requiere que el operadoreste detras del mango de la segadora parahacerla arrancar y operarla.

PARA AJUSTAR LA ALTURA DE CORTELevante las ruedas para el corte bajo y baje lasruedas para el corte alto., ajuste la altura decorte para que se acomode a sus requisitos. Laposici6n del medio es la mejor para la mayoriade los cespedes.• Para cambiar la altura de corte, empuje la

palanca del ajustador hacia la rueda. Mueva larueda hacia arriba o hacia abajo de mode quese acomode a sus requisitos. AsegQrese quetodas las ruedas queden igualmente ajustadas.

AVlSO: El ajustador esta correctamentecolocado cuando las orejas de la placa estaninsertadas en el agujero del mango. Tambien,los ajustes de 9 posiciones (si equipado) per-miten que el mango 3ueda ser movido entre lasorejas de la placa.

ANTES DE HACER ARRANCAR ELMOTORAGREGUE ACEITESu segadora fue enviada sin aceite en el motor.Para el tipo y el grado del aceite a utilizar, veael "MOTOR" en la secci6n del Mantenimiento deeste manual._ib,PRECAUCl6N: NO sobrellene el motor conaceite, o fumara pesa demante del silenciadorcuando Io valla a arrancar.

1. AsegQrese que la segadora este nivelada.2. Remueva la varila medidora de aceite del tubo

de desarga de aceite.3. Usted recibe un envase de aceite con la

unidad. Vierta lentamente el envase enterode aceite en el tubo de relleno del motor.

AVISO: El terraplen inicial del aceite requieresolamente 18 onzas debido al aceite residualen el motor de la prueba de calidad de 100%del fabricante. AI cambiar el aceite puedenecesitar 20 onzas.4. Inserte y apriete la varilla medidora de

aceite.IMPORTANTE:• Revise el nivel del aceite antes de cada uso.

Agregue aceite si es necesario. Llene hasta lalinea de Ileno en la varilla medidora de nivel.

• Cambie el aceite despues de 25 horas deoperaci6n o una vez por temporada. Puedenecesitar cambiar el aceite mas a menudocuando las condiciones son polvorosas o su-cias. Vea "PARA CAMBIAR EL ACEITE DELMOTOR" en la seccion de Mantenimiento deeste manual.

AGREGUE GASOLINA• Llene el estanque de combustible hasta

la parte inferior del cuello de relleno delestanque de gasolina. No Io Ilene demasiado.Use gasolina regular, sin plomo, nueva y lim-pia con el minimo de 87 octanos. No mezcleel aceite con la gasolina. Para asegurarque la gasolina utilizada sea fresca compreestanques los cuales puedan ser utilizados

dl durante los primeros 30 dias.PRECAUClON: Limpie el aceite o el

combustible derramado. No almacene, derrameo use gasolina cerca de una llama expuesta.

_,PRECAUCI6N: Los combustibles

mezclados con alcohol (conocidos comogasohol, o el uso de etanol o metanol) puedenatraer la humedad, la que conduce a laseparaci6n y formaci6n de acidos durante elalmacenamiento. La gasolina acidica puededaSar el sistema del combustible de un motordurante el almacenamiento. Para evitar losproblemas con el motor, se debe vaciar elsistema del combustible antes de guardarlopor un periodo de 30 dias o mas. Vacie elestanque del combustible, haga arrancar elmotor y hagalo funcionar hasta que las lineasdel combustible y el carburador queden vacios.La pr6xima temporada use combustible nuevo.Yea las lnstrucciones Para El Almacenamientopara mas informaci6n. Nunca use productos delimpieza para el motor o para el carburador enel estanque del combustible pues se puedenproducir daSos permanentes.

PARA PARAR EL MOTOR• Para parar el motor, suelte la barra de con-

troles que exigen la presencia del operador.PARA HACER ARRANCAR EL MOTORAVISO: Debido a las capas protectoras del mo-tor, una cantidad peque5a de humo puede es-tar presente durante el uso inicial del productoy se debe considerar normal.1. Para Racer arrancar un motor fdo, empuje

el cebador tres (3) veces antes de tratarlo.Empuje firmemente. Este paso normal-mente no es necesario cuando se Racearrancar un motor que ya ha estado funcio-nando por unos cuantos minutos.

2. Sujete la barra de controles que exigen lapresencia del operador abajo en el mangoy tire el mango del arrancador rapidamente.No permita que el cord6n arrancador sedevuelva abruptamente.

AVlSO: En climas mas frios puede que seanecesario repetir los pasos del cebado. En cli-mas mas calurosos el cebar demasiado puedeproducir el ahogo y el motor no va a arrancar.Si se ahoga el motor espere unos cuantosminutos antes de tratar de hacerlo arrancar yno repita los pasos del cebado.

CONSEJOS PARA SEGAR_Q_,PRECAUCl6N: No utilizar dispositivos anti-paja de la hoja en la segadora ya que estosaccesorios son peligrosos, pueden daSar susegadora y anular su garantia.• Bajo ciertas condiciones, tal como cesped

muy alto, puede ser necesario el elevar laaltura del corte para reducir el esfuerzonecesario para empujar la segadora y paraevitar sobrecargar el motor, dejando mon-tones de recortes de cesped. Puede que seanecesario reducir la velocidad del recorridoy/o haga funcionar la segadora sobre el areapor segunda vez.

• Para un corte muy pesado, reduzca el anchodel corte pasando parcialmente por encimadel lugar anteriormente cortado y sieguelentamente.

• Para un mejor ensacado del cesped y para lamayoda de las condiciones de corte, la velo-cidad del motor debe ajustarse a la posici6nde RAPIDO.

• Si las segadoras de descarga lateral cortanen una direccion contraria alas manillas delreloj, si se empieza en la parte de afueradel area que se va a cortar, se repartiran losrecortes del cesped en forma mas pareja yel motor se cargara menos. Para evitar quelos recortes caigan en los senderos, en lasflores, etc., haga los primeros cortes en ladirecci6n de las manillas del reloj.

• Los poros en los recogedores de cesped detela pueden Ilenarse con mugre y polvo conel uso y los recogedores recaudaran menoscesped. Para evitar esto, rocie el recogedorcon la manguera de agua, regularmente, ydejelo secarse antes de usarlo.

• Mantenga la parte superior del motor, alred-edor del arrancador, despejada y sin recortesde cesped y paja. Esto ayudara el flujo delaire del motor y extendera su duracion.

CONSEJOS PARA SEGARY ACOLCHARIMPORTANTE: Para obtener el mejorrendimiento mantenga la caja de la segadorasin acumulacion de cesped y basura. Vea"LIMPIEZA" en la seccion de Mantenimento deeste manual.

• La cuchilla acolchadora especial va a volvera cortar los recortes de cesped muchasveces, y los reduce en tamaSo, de modo quesi se caen en el cesped se van a dispesarentre este y no se van a notar. Tambien, elcesped acolchado se va a deshacer rapidam-ente entregando substancias nutritivas parael cesped. Siempre acolche con la velocidaddel motor (cuchilla) mas alta, pues asi seobtendra la mejor acci6n de recorte de lascuchillas.

• Evite cortar el cesped cuando este mojado.El cesped mojado tiende a formar montonese interfiere con la acci6n de acolchado.La mejor hora para segar el cesped estemprano en la tarde. A esa hora este se hasecado y el area recien cortada no quedaraexpuesta al sol directo.

• Para obtener los mejores resultados, ajustela altura del corte de la segadora de modoque esta corte solamente el tercio superiorde las hojas de cesped. En el caso de que elcesped haya crecido demasiado, puede sernecesario el elevar la altura del corte parareducir el esfuerzo necesario para empujar lasegadora y para evitar sobrecargar el motor,dejando montones de recortes de cesped.Para un cesped muy pesado, reduzca el an-cho del corte pasando por encima del lugaranteriormente cortado y siegue lentamente.

• Ciertos tipos de cesped y sus condicionespueden exigir que un area tenga que seracolchada por segunda vez para escondercompletamente los recortes. Cuando se hagael segundo corte, siegue atravesado (enforma perpendicular) a la pasada del primercorte.

• Cambie su patr6n de corte de semana asemana. Siegue de norte a sur una semanay luego cambie de este a oeste la pr6ximasemana. Esto evitara que el cesped seenrede y cambie de direccion.

RECOMENDACIONES GENERALESLa garantia de esta segadora no cubre losarticulos que han estado sujetos al abuso o ala negligencia del operador. Para recibir todoel valor de la garantia, el operador tiene quemantener la segadora segQn las instruccionesdescritas en este manual.

Hay algunos ajustes que se tienen que haceren forma periodica para poder mantener suunidad adecuadamente.

AI menos una vez cada estacion comprobarsi es necesario efectuar los ajustes descritosen las secciones de Servicio y Ajustes de estemanual.

• Una vez al ado, cambie la bujia, limpie ocambie el elemento del filtro de aire y revisesi la cuchilla esta desgastada. Una bujianueva y un elemento del filtro de aire limpio/nuevo aseguran la mezcla de aire-com-bustible adecuada y ayudan a que su motorfuncione mejor y que dure mas.

• Siga el programa de mantenimiento en estemanual.

LLANTAS• Mantenga las Ilantas sin gasolina, aceite o

substancias quimicas para control de insec-tos que pueden dafiar la goma.

• Evite los tocones, las piedras, las grietas pro-fundas, los objetos afilados y otros peligrosque pueden dafiar alas Ilantas.

CUIDADO DE LA CUCHILLAPara obtener los mejores resultados, la cuchillade la segadora tienen que mantenerse afilada.Cambie la cuchilla doblada o dafiada.PARA REMOVER LA CUCHILLA

1. Desconecte el alambre de la bujia y p6n-galo en donde no pueda entrar en contactocon esta.

2. Haga descansar la segadora en su lado.AsegQrese que el filtro de aire y que elcarburador queden mirando hacia arriba.

3. Use un bloque de madera entre la cuchillay la caja de la segadora para evitar que lacuchilla gire cuando se le quite el perno.

AVlSO: Proteja sus manos con guantes y/oenvuelva la cuchilla con una tela gruesa.4. Remueva el perno de la cuchilla girandolo

en el sentido contrario en que giran lasmanillas del reloj.

5. Remueva la cuchilla y los articulos de fer-reteria adjuntadores (el perno, la arandelade seguridad y la arandela endurecida).

AVlSO: Remueva el adaptador de la cuchillay revise el cubo interior de la ranura deladaptador de la cuchilla. La ranura tiene queestar en buenas condiciones para que funcioneen forma adecuada. Cambie el adaptador siesta dafiado.PARA CAMBIAR LA CUCHILLA

1. Ponga el adaptador de la cuchilla en elciguefial del motor. AsegQrese que la ranuradel adaptador y que el chavetero del cigue-fial esten alineados.

2. Ponga la cuchilla en el adaptador de estaalineando los dos (2) agujeros en la cuchillacon las salientes elevadas en el adaptador.

3. AsegQrese de que el borde de salida dela cuchilla (opuesto al borde afilado) estehacia arriba hacia el motor.

4. Instale el perno de la cuchilla con la aran-dela de seguridad y la arandela endurecidaen el adaptador de la cuchilla y el ciguefial.

5. Use un bloque de madera entre la cuchillay la caja de la segadora y apriete el pernode la cuchilla girandolo en el sentido en quegiran las manillas del reloj.

• La torsi6n para apretar recomendada es de35 - 40 pies libras.

IMPORTANTE: El perno de la cuchilla estratado a calo. Si es necesario sustituir lospernos, sustituirlos s61o con pernos aprobadosmostrados en la secci6n Partes de Reparaci6nde este manual.

PARA AFILAR LA CUCHILLAAVlSO: No recomendamos el afilar la cuchilla- pero si Io hace, asegQrese de que quedebalanceada.

Se tiene que tener cuidado de mantenerlabalanceada. Una cuchilla que no esta bal-anceada va a producir eventualmente dafio enla segadora o en el motor.• La cuchilla puede afilarse con una lima o en

una rueda rectificadora. No trate de afilarlamientras se encuentra en la segadora.

• Para revisar el balance de la cuchilla, claveun clavo en una viga o en la pared. Dejealrededor de una pulgada de un clavo rectoexpuesto. Ponga el agujero central de lacuchilla sobre la cabeza del clavo. Si lacuchilla esta balanceada debe permaneceren la posicion horizontal. Si cualquiera delos extremos de la cuchilla se mueve haciaabajo, afile el extremo pesado hasta que estaquede balanceada.

RECOGEDOR DE CO:SPED(Si comprado como accesorio)• El recogedor de cesped puede ser rociado

con el agua de la manguera pero tiene queestar seco cuando se vaya a usar.

• Revise su recogedor de cesped a menudopara verificar si esta dafiado o deteriorado.Se va a desgastar con el uso normal. Si senecesita cambiar el recogedor, cambielosolamente por uno que sea aprobado por elfabricante. De el nQmero del modelo de lasegadora cuando Io ordene.

AVlSO: A pesar de que los aceites de multi-viscosidad (5W30, 10W30, etc.) mejoran elarranque en clima frio, estos aceites de mul-tiviscosidad van ha aumentar el consumo deaceite cuando se usan en temperaturas sobre32° E Revise el nivel del aceite del motor mas amenudo, para evitar un posible da_o en el mo-tor, debido a que no tiene suficiente aceite.Cambie el aceite despues de 25 horas deoperaci6n o por Io menos una vez al a_o si lasegadora se utiliza menos 25 horas el a_o.Revise el nivel del aceite del carter antes dearrancar el motor y despues de cada cinco (5)horas de uso continuado. Apriete el tap6n delaceite en forma segura cada vez que revise elnivel del aceite.PARA CAMBIAR EL ACEITE DEL MOTOR

AVlSO: Antes de inclinar la segadora para drenarel aceite, drene el tanque de combustible hacien-do correr el motor hasta que el tanque este vacio.1. Desconecte el alambre de la bujia y

p6ngalo de modo que no pueda entrar encontacto con esta.

2. Remueva la tapa del dep6sito del aceite;dejela a un lado en una superficie limpia.

3. Incline la cortadora de cesped por estecostado tal como se muestra y purgue elaceite en un recipiente idoneo. Mueva lasegadora de atras para adelante para re-mover todo el aceite que se haya quedadoatrapado dentro del motor.

4. Limpie todo el aceite derramado en la sega-dora yen el lado del motor.

5. Echar aceite despacio en el conducto delaceite, parandose a intervalos regulares paracontrolar el nivel del aceite con la varilla.

6. Parar de a_adir aceite cuando se alcanza lasepal de Ileno (FULL) en la varilla. Esperar unminuto para dejar que el aceite se arregle.

7. ContinQe agregando cantidades pequeasde aceite y vuelva a inspeccionar la varillamedidora settles del nivel de aciete en Ileno(FULL). NO sobrellene el motor con aceite,o fumara pesa demante del silenciadorcuando Io valla a arrancar.

8. AsegQrese de apretar la varilla medidoradel aceite antes de arrancar el motor.

9. Vuelva a conectar el alambre de la bujia aesta. •

FILTRO DE AIRESu motor puede sufrir averias y funcionar de •manera incorrecta con un filtro del aire sucio.Sustituir el papel del cartucho una vez al a_o otras 100 horas de funcionamiento, mas a menu-do si se utiliza en condiciones de suciedad ypolvo particulares. No lave el filtro de aire. 29

PARA CAMBIAR EL FILTRO DE AIRE

1. Remueva el filtro de aire girandolo en elsentido contrario en que giran las manillasdel reloj, hasta el tope, y retirelo del collar.

2. Remueva el filtro de la parte interior de lacubierta.

3. Limpie la parte interior de la cubierta y elcollar para remover toda acumulacion demugre.

4. Inserte el filtro nuevo en la cubierta.5. Ponga la cubierta del filtro de aire dentro

del collar alineando la oreja con la ranura.6. Empuje la cubierta hacia adentro y girela

en el sentido de las manillas del reloj paraapretarla.

• Haga descansar la segadora en su lado.AsegOrese que el filtro de aire y que el car-burador queden mirando hacia arriba. Limpiela parte inferior de su segadora raspandolapara remover la acumulacion de cesped ybasura.

• Limpie el motor a menudo para evitar quese acumule la basura. Un motor tapado fun-ciona mas caliente y se acorta su duracion.Mantenga las superficies pulidas y las rue-das sin gasolina, aceite, etc.No recomendamos el uso de una manguerade jardin para limpiar la segadora a menosque el sistema electrico, el silenciador, elfiltro de aire y el carburador esten tapadospara evitar que les entre el agua. El agua enel motor puede acortar la duracion de este.

PROTECClON CONTRA LA DESCARGASe proporciona una protecci6n contra la des-carga, adjunta a la abertura de descarga de susegadora, para evitar la posibilidad que objetossean lanzados hacia afuera de la abertura dedescarga, en la posici6n en donde se encuen-tra el operador. Si se daSa la protecci6n contrala descarga debe cambiarse.

PARA AJUSTAR EL MANGOEl mango puede ser montado a una posici6nalta o baja. Los agujeros de montaje en elmango inferior estan fuera del centro paralevantar y bajar el mango.1. Remueva el mango superior y conexi6ne(s)

el asegurar el (los) cable(s) al mango infe-rior.

2. Remueva las clavijas de horquilla de laclavija de montaje del puntal del mango.

3. Apreite el mango inferior hacia dentro pararemoverlo de las clavijas de montaje.

4. Gire el mango inferior por encima paralevantar o bajar el mango.

5. Vuelva a montar las clavijas de horquilla porencima de las clavijas de montaje.

6. Vuelva a montar el mango superior y todaslas partes removidas del mango inferior.

MOTORVELOCIDAD DEL MOTORLa velocidad del motor ha sido ajustada en la fa-brica. No trate de aumentar la velocidad del motorpues se pueden producir lesiones personales. Sicree que el motor esta funcionando demasiadorapido o demasiado lento, Ileve su segadora amas con su centro de servicio Sears o con unotro centro de servicio cualificado.

CARBURADORSu carburador tiene un chorro principal fijono ajustable para controlar la mezcla. Si sumotor no esta funcionando en forma adecuadadebido a problemas que se sospecha vienendel carburador, Ileve su segadora a contactocon su centro de servicio Sears o con un otrocentro de servicio cualificado para repararla y/oajustarla.

IMPORTANTE: Nunca manipule el reguladordel motor, el que ha sido ajustado en la fabricapara la velocidad del motor adecuada. Puedeser peligroso hacer funcionar el motor a unavelocidad por sobre el ajuste de alta velocidadde la fabrica. Si cree que la velocidad alta regu-lada del motor necesita ajuste,contacto con sucentro de servicio Sears o con un otro centrode servicio cualificado, el que cuenta con elequipo adecuado y la experiencia para hacerlos ajustes necesarios.

Inmediatamente prepare su segadora para elalmacenamiento al final de cada temporada o sila unidad no se va a usar por 30 dias o mas.

SEGADORACuando se va a guardar la segadora por ciertoperiodo de tiempo, limpiela cuidadosamente,remueva toda la mugre, la grasa, las hojas, etc.Guardela en un area limpia y seca.1. Limpie toda la segadora (Vea "LtMPIEZA" en

la secci6n de Mantenimento de este manual).2. Lubriquela segQn se muestra en la seccion

de Mantenimento de este manual.3. AsegOrese de que todas las tuercas y

clavijas y todos los pernos y tornillos estenapretados en foma segura, lnspeccionelas partes que se mueven para verificar siestan da5adas, quebradas o desgastadas.Cambielas si es necesario.

4. Retoque todas las superficies que estenoxidadas o con la pintura picada; use unalija antes de pintar.

MANGOPuede doblar el mango de su segadora para elalmacenamiento.NOTA: El mango superior tiene un soporte"contra-dobla" situado en el lado derechodel mango. Este soporte evita que el mangosuperior doble hacia adelante, Io cual ayudaa proteger el (los) cable(s) de control contracualquier da_o.1. Apriete los extremos inferiores del mango

inferior entre si hasta que el mango inferiorquede separado del puntal del mango,luego muevalo hacia adelante.

2. Suelte los pernos de montaje del mangosuperior Io suficiente como para permitirque el mango superior se pueda doblarhacia atras.

IMPORTANTE: Cuando doble el mango para elalmacenamiento o el transporte, asegQrese queIo doble segQn se muestra o purde da5ar loscables de control.• Cuando prepare sus mangos a partir de

la posici6n de almacenamiento, el mangoinferior automaticamente se asegurara en laposici6n para segar.

MOTORSISTEMA DE COMBUSTIBLEIMPORTANTE: Es importante evitar quese formen depositos de coma en partesfundamentales del sistemade combustible talescomo el carburador, el filtro del combustible,la mangura del combustible o en el estanquedurante el almacenamiento. Los combustiblesmezclados con alcohol (conocido comegasohol o que tienen etanol o metanol)Pueden atraer humedad, Io que conduce a laseparacion y a la formaci6n de acidos duranteel almacenamiento. La gasolina acida puededanar el sistema de combustible de un motordurante el perido de almacenamiento.

• Vaciar el deposito del carburante poniendoen marcha el motor y dejandolo funcionarhasta que el carburante termine y elcarburador este vacio.

• Nunca use los productos para limpieza delcarburador o del motor en el estanque decombustible pues se pueden producir dafiospermanentes.

• Use combustible nuevo la pr6xima tempo-rada.

AVlSO: El estabilizador de combustible es unaalternativa aceptable para reducir a un minimola formacion de dep6sitos de goma en el com-bustible durante el periodo de almacenamiento.Agregue estabilizador a la gasolina en elestanque de combustible o en el envase para elalmacenamiento. Siempre siga la proporcion demezcla que se encuentra en el envase del esta-bilizador. Haga funcionar el motor por Io menos10 minutos despues de agregar el estabilizador,para permitir que este Ilegue al carburador. Nodrene la gasolina del estanque de gasolina y elcarburador si se esta usando estabilizador decombustible.

ACEITE DEL MOTOR

Drene el aceite (con el motor caliente) ycambielo con aceite de motor limpio. (Vea "MO-TOR" en la seccion de Mantenimento de estemanual.)

ClLINDRO1. Remueva la bujia.2. Vacie una onza (29 ml) de aceite a traves

del agujero de la bujia en el cilindro.3. Tire la manilla de arranque lentamente unas

cuantas veces para distribuir el aceite.4. Vuelva a montar la nueva bujia.

OTROS• No guarde la gasolina de una temporada a la

otra.• Cambie el envase de la gasolina si se emp-

ieza a oxidar. La oxidacion y/o la mugre ensu gasolina produciran problemas.

• Si es posible, guarde su unidad en un recintocerrado y c0brala para protegerla contra elpolvo y la mugre.

• Cubra su unidad con un forro protectoradecuado que no retenga la humedad. Nouse plastico. El plastico no puede respirar, Ioque permite la formacion de condensacion,Io que producira la oxidacion de su unidad.

IMPORTANTE: Nunca cubra la segadoramientras el motor y las areas de escape todaviaestan calientes.,_;k,PRECAUCI6N: Nunca almacene lasegadora con gasolina en el estanque dentrode un edificio en donde los gases puedenalcanzar una llama expuesta o una chispa.Permita que se enfrie el motor antes dealmacenarla en alg0n recinto cerrado.
