Salary Packaging Effectiveness

Managing a robust and contemporary salary packaging program is a ‘must do’ for many CR Members. There may be significant additional benefits if your organisation is a registered charity or from aged care or healthcare sectors. Ensuring your employees can leverage the benefits they are entitled to and get the most from their salary can make a big difference in attracting and retaining talented staff.

When it comes to administering a successful employee benefits program, aligning the delivery of the service with your organisational culture and reputation can be as important as the program itself. Whether you are managing your program in-house or through an external provider, providing a personal and caring service, as well effectively managing compliance, risk and complex administrative activities while delivering a program of true value to your employees, can be a difficult balancing act to achieve and maintain.

So what should you be looking for in a salary packaging program or provider?

Here are some key things to assess when you are thinking about your program’s effectiveness:

Æ Engaging and educating your employees

What are your levels of participation like? How many of your employees are aware of your salary packaging program and how salary packaging actually works?

Æ Personal and dedicated service and support

Salary packaging can be a complex financial decision for many. Do you have the resources available to explain and meet with your employees one on one?

Æ Systems and process capability Having robust and proven systems and processes for managing transactions, account amendments, claims and reporting accurately and in a timely manner are essential to ensuring that your employees experience a smooth and seamless program.

Æ Compliance and security Are you confident in the quality and level of compliance, and the risk (financial, tax) that comes with managing salary packaging programs? What types of assurances can you gain from your current provider or in-house processes?

It takes specialist expertise, robust systems and exceptional customer service to deliver fully outsourced employee benefit program.
