As I write this, the sun is setting, the year 2015 is drawing to an end and a new year and a
new season of ministry serving the Lord Jesus lays before us.
We’ve been in a season of vision discernment for several months now. The Vision Task
Force—composed of Don Wissner, Christie Carlin, Kathy Klink, Josh Dunklebarger, Jean
Diehl, Scott Wiley (chairperson) and myself—have been working diligently and I am con-
vinced that God is speaking, revealing the path forward for Central. They have some exciting
ideas they will soon be ready to share for you.
And by soon, I mean Saturday, Jan. 23 rd. On that day we’ll hold a Vision Retreat beginning
at 9:00 AM. We need a wide representation of the congregation to attend, so we invite all those
who are committed to seeking God’s will for Central to attend.
During the retreat, we’ll review the information gathered from the surveys completed by the
congregation, consider how Central’s past and present give us direction for the future and
(drum roll please!) unveil the vision we believe God is putting on our hearts and minds.
Of course, the Vision Task Force wants to hear your response to the vision, but your partici-
pation at the retreat will go further than that. During the retreat, we will be asking participants
to identify specific ministries, programs and other ideas that will bring the vision to life. Some
of these ministries were identified clearly through the congregational surveys, but there are cer-
tainly other ways this vision will come to life that no one has yet voiced. Perhaps some of them
are on your heart and mind right now.
The retreat will be held on the 23rd from 9:00 AM - 3:00 PM in Friendship Hall. Lunch will
be provided. If you will attend, please register by contacting Church Secretary Bertie Lawyer at
[email protected] or 264-4113. Lunch will be served, and we’ll have donuts….
….good donuts. Childcare will be available on request. To prepare, you will also be asked to
read several short articles and prayerfully ponder a few important questions. I’m confident you
will find this a valuable and exciting way to spend your Saturday. Really!
PS - Thank you for the very generous Christmas gift! I am grateful not only for the gift, but also
for how the congregation of Central frequently expresses its love and appreciation to me and
Susan. It’s a joy being with you!
From the Pastor
Church Family Thank you....
Many thanks to my church family for the outpouring
of love, support, prayers and condolences, through
cards, texts, phone calls, visits, flowers, memorial
contributions, and attendance at my dad’s Celebra-
tion of Life service.
I know that the words ‘Thank you’ seem inadequate,
but then again, something I have learned over my
dad’s brief illness and death, is that words just
sometimes DO feel inadequate. Gratitude is a touch-
stone that has helped me to pause and to reflect on
the goodness that has come to me because of the
generosity, support, and caring actions of friends
like you. Your overwhelmingly loving expressions of
sympathy, prayers and support have touched me
deeply. The best words I can muster up at this time
are:
“You are all awesome, and I am so blessed!!”
Period.
Love,
Cindy Shoemaker
Dear Central,
Thank you, for your long time care, concern, cards,
notes, calls, flowers, quilt square, and especially, for
your prayers, all of which have sustained us for over
a year. Paul is in remission, in his own apartment,
and returning gradually to full time work. Ruth has
recovered well from her surgery. We have returned
to Menno. Please continue your prayers for Paul to
stay in remission as he rebuilds his immune system
in the coming months.
In His name....
Ruth and George Muller
Dear Church family,
Thank you for the many thoughts, visits, flowers,
cards, shopping, and prayers that have come my
way this year. I have appreciated everything very
much.
This thought has helped me throughout the year:
“I woke up with some aches and pains, BUT I woke
up. My life may not be perfect, BUT I am blessed."
God's continued blessings to all of you.
Margaret Sponsler

Thank you so much for your kind invitation to have

WHOLENESS CENTER SALE STATUS
While sale of the Wholeness Center moves forward with no identified major problems, progress toward
closure has been much slower than we anticipated. We had expected to close on the property by the end of
2015 at the latest. The current projection for closing is now February 2016. While the negotiations with the
buyer went relatively smoothly including her agreeing to purchase the property at our asking price of
$125,000, a number of administrative issues have led to the delay.
A delay in filing the request for subdivision with the Boro meant that we missed the November hearing
timeline moving the Boro’s consideration meeting into December.
Our attorney’s belief that this was not an urgent matter led to a slow response on his part in preparing
the paperwork for the transaction.
The Boro has stated that in order for the property to be subdivided the parking lot must be shown as part
of the church building property. This resulted in a requirement to redraw the engineering drawings prior
to submission to the Boro. That is currently underway.
In reviewing the plans, the Boro discovered that their electric department had failed to obtain an ease-
ment for the two poles that are on the parking lot when they were installed years ago. That easement
will be included in the new drawings.
IMPACT: While the delay in closing continues, we are incurring expenses on the property that we had
hoped to avoid by closing in 2015. This has also meant that we are not in a position to redo the mortgage
on the remaining properties – the Bank and Lincoln Way West parking lot until the sale is closed.
JOY VILLAGE Did you have a houseful of family for Christmas? Well, so do the folks in Kenya. Every year millions of
Kenyans travel great distances to celebrate Christmas and explore their ancestral roots with their families.
But what about the children of Joy Village? All are orphans, and some were found abandoned, with no
trace of family.
Joy Village moms to the rescue! Mothers Joyce, Grace, Peninah, and Elizabeth decided to take their JV
children along with them to visit their families “upcountry”. What a loving thing to do, and what a surprise
for each family to see nine extra kids arrive, imagine the loving chaos! Then take a moment to give thanks
in prayer for these moms, their distant families, and all the residents of Joy Village.

It’s a new year! How awesome that we get to “start over” every January 1st! I
don’t know about all of you, but New Year celebrations give me such a boost
of confidence – an assurance that I get a second chance. All of the stress and
worry of the year before suddenly releases and I’m reminded that I
get a clean slate. True, God’s mercies are new EVERY morning, but
there’s just something about seeing the year change on our calendars
that makes it feel official. I have a bunch of goals for 2016, but my
biggest one is to “notice beauty” every day. My sister wrote a song
recently called “There is Beauty All Around Us”; in listening to it, I was overwhelmed with an urgency to no-
tice the beauty around ME specifically. It’s so easy to take God’s creation for granted, so in 2016, I’m going
to love every part of it! In order to keep myself accountable, I’m going to take a picture of something beauti-
ful every day and post it on Instagram with #beautyallaroundus as the hashtag. Join me if you’d like! It’ll be a
great adventure! I’m excited to engage in the moving of the Holy Spirit with all of you this year! Gods will
be done!
YOUTH:
In December, we started the theme “The First Became Last”, focusing on how Jesus has always been first
(in the creation of the world and in being part of the Trinity), but chose a life on earth of rejection, persecu-
tion, and servanthood. He chose to become last for us! The rest of the month has been met with a challenge:
how can we put ourselves last to glorify God?
Our second Sunday outreach involved the Middlers going back to Penn Hall and spending time with the
residents there, while our Highers engaged in a new kind of outreach! We decorated ourselves with Christ-
mas joy, took small gifts, a poem, and a Christmas carol and went around to “serenade” employees in local
businesses on Wayne Ave. We thought, “You know, people who work in restaurants and in places like Kmart
get treated poorly during the Christmas season, so we are going to make them smile.” And we did! We left
every place we went with the workers beaming from ear to ear. It was a good night.
On the third Sunday of the month, we had our annual youth Christmas party, where we prayed, played, ate,
and exchanged gifts! Big thank you to the Carlin family for supplying our youth Christmas dinner!
On December 29th, the 8th graders and the high schoolers went to Rhodes Grove retreat center for a winter
refocus. It was a beautiful and meaningful time of spiritual growth and friendship.
We have several Central Tropics (youth basketball) games coming up at the Rec Center! We would love for
you to come cheer us on!

Cold Weather Drop In Shelter Meals: An opportunity is available to provide a warm
meal on a cold night to homeless members of our community. Central continues to
reach out and help where needed as we provide meals the first and third Fridays in
February & March at the Cold Weather Drop in Shelter located at 195 Loudon St. Eight
warm nourishing meals for hungry men and women of our community. Meals and
a beverage should be delivered to the shelter at 7:00. The shelter provides utensils and
dishes. All we have to do is deliver the meal. Bring the meals in disposable containers.
There is a sign up sheet on the Mission bulletin board across from the office. This is a
wonderful opportunity to serve our community. Partner with another family to share the
meal preparation. If you have any questions please call Bill McKelvie at 477-2132.
CONTEMPORARY WORSHIP:
After each extra busy season of worship, I find myself extremely and
overwhelmingly grateful for all of the people who make meaningful
worship happen at Central. If you are one of those people, thank you.
You are appreciated and loved.
We are looking forward to making 2016 more Jesus-centered than ever
as we approach scripture, song, dance, and teaching with integrity, faith,
and total reliance on the Holy Spirit!
Some upcoming crucial dates of worship:
February 10th: Ash Wednesday 7pm service in sanctuary
March 24th: Maundy Thursday 7pm service in sanctuary
March 25th: Experience the Passion of Christ, 5:30 and 7pm performances, in Friendship
Hall
March 25th: Community Good Friday service 12-3pm in sanctuary
March 27th: Easter Sunday
May 8th: Youth Sunday, one service at 10am
May 15th: Pentecost
Matthew 10:40-42, MSG
“We are intimately linked in this harvest work. Anyone who accepts what you do, accepts me, the
One who sent you. Anyone who accepts what I do accepts my Father, who sent me. Accepting a
messenger of God is as good as being God’s messenger. Accepting someone’s help is as good as
giving someone help. This is a large work I’ve called you into, but don’t be overwhelmed by it.
It’s best to start small. Give a cool cup of water to someone who is thirsty, for instance.
The smallest act of giving or receiving makes you a true apprentice.
You won’t lose out on a thing.”
Please join us each Sunday at 9:30am
in the Friendship Hall
CONGREGATIONAL MEETING
The Session has called a Congregational Meeting for Sunday January 10, following the 11:00 AM worship service. The purpose of the meeting is to elect one Deacon for the Class of 2018.
The Nominating Committee is recommending Mike Diehl for this position.
