COX GREEN LUNCHEON CLUB

The club caters mainly for retired people living within
the parishes of All Saints Church, Maidenhead, the
Church of the Good Shepherd, Cox Green and St
Edmund Campion RC Church who are housebound or
lonely through age, disability, ill health or
bereavement, providing a reasonably priced freshly
cooked two course meal in a friendly atmosphere.
There are vacancies at present and if you would like
to join us you can be sure of a very warm welcome.

The simplest way to slice a bunch of cherry tomatoes is to sandwich them between two plastic lids and run a long knife through all of them at once!

What is a Neighbourhood Plan? In very simple terms, a neighbourhood plan is:
A document that sets out planning policies for the neighbourhood area. Planning policies are used to decide whether to approve planning applications.
Written by the local community, the people who know and love the area, rather than the Local Planning Authority.
A powerful tool to ensure the community gets the right types of development, in the right place.
Local people can create a plan that allows them to develop planning policies that reflect the priorities of their area and have real legal weight. The whole community then decides at a referendum vote whether the local authority should bring the plan into force.
A neighbourhood plan is an important document with real legal force, therefore there are certain formal procedures that it must go through.
Cox Green Parish Council is the submitting authority for the Maidenhead & Cox Green Neighbourhood Plan. Whilst a part of the neighbourhood plan area, Cox Green is a distinctive community and as such the Plan will contain Cox Green specific policies. The involvement of our community is vital to help formulate these policies and the Parish Council is keen to hear from our residents including:
Your thoughts as to what you regard as important in Cox Green
Where development should go
What should be protected
Traffic, infrastructure and parking
Community facilities, open spaces and recreational areas
Green Belt
Schools, health and social wellbeing provision
and more

Community Warden Update—Alan Herd
I would like to bring to your notice in this Newsletter the issue of Dog Fouling.
IT IS AN OFFENCE NOT TO CLEAN UP AFTER YOUR DOG.
It is estimated that the dog population of the UK is 8 million (Kennel Club 2009), producing around 1000 tonnes of excrement per day.
If children come into contact with dog excrement, they can contract toxocariasis. This comes from toxocara (roundworm) eggs, which are often present in dog excrement.
Infective eggs are tiny, and remain on grass and soil in gardens and play areas for many months, long after the visible excrement has been washed away by the rain. These eggs are not killed by normal amounts of household bleach, which sometimes makes them more infective. Most children contract toxocariasis from children’s play areas or the street.
Toxocariasis can lead to blindness in children. There are approximately 100 reported cases per year, with 50 leading to serious eye problems.
The majority of owners behave responsibly and pick up after their dogs. However dog mess left by a minority of irresponsible owners is often the cause of complaints to local authorities, councillors and Keep Britain Tidy.
It is illegal to leave your dog’s faeces lying around in a public area. If a dog is in your care for any length of time, it is your responsibility to clean up its mess.
Always be ready to clean up after your dog by taking a poop-scoop or a supply of bags with you whenever you leave the house. If you have a garden, train your dog to go there before you take it for a walk.
Make sure you pick up the mess straight away, seal the bag and place the waste in a bin. This could be a dog waste bin, a normal litter bin or if this is not possible take the bag home and put it in your own bin.
Do not throw the bag over a fence, hang it on a tree or leave
the bag on the pathway. Make a note of where the public bins are on your route so that you can dispose of the waste responsibly.
Who is responsible for clearing away dog fouling?
It is the responsibility of the dog owner or the person in charge of the dog to clear up any dog foul left by their dog. The regulations state specifically, that being unaware that the dog has fouled, or not having a suitable means of removing the faeces is not a reasonable excuse for failing to clean up after a dog.
If someone has failed to clean up after their dog, your local authority will clear dog fouling from all public places that it has a legal responsibility for.
When dog fouling is left on privately owned land, it is either the owner or occupier who is held responsible for clearing the foul away.
What can you do?
If you do not clear up after your dog, you could also be fined. The maximum penalty for committing an offence is £1000 in a magistrate’s court. Alternatively an authorised officer of an authority may issue a fixed penalty notice of £52 in RBWM.
As well as clearing up your dog’s mess as a dog owner you can help reduce any health risk to the public by regularly worming your dog.
I constantly patrol Cox Green specially the green park area’s with a view to issuing Fixed Penalties for £52 to persons who do not clean up after the dogs.

Try to provide as much detail as possible so that any appropriate action can be taken.

A Double Celebration at The Church of the Good Shepherd, Cox Green

not only was the Revd Joan Hicks formally made
Vicar of Cox Green, having been Priest in Charge
since 2005, but the church also received from
Bishop Andrew a ‘Family Friendly Church Award’.
Joan Hicks, Vicar of Cox Green, said “We always
