Technology enabledYour learning at CULC is underpinned and supported by the latest developments in technology from our Learning Resource Centre, to a unique simulated trading floor and a range of in-class technology. You can collaborate and study with your peers, your tutors and your future employers using the best in teaching and learning technologies.
Our Learning Resource Centre provides access to world class learning resources that will support your studies. This includes books at CULC, as well as access to the collections at Lanchester Library in Coventry. In addition we have over 29,000 eJournals and 51,000 eBooks available online through the eLibrary 24/7.
Simulated trading floorStudents at CULC benefit from a simulated trading floor facility which provides them with a unique business experience and learning opportunity.
The trading floor facility features 25 stations, which allows students to benefit from interactive teaching of complex financial investments, including equities, fixed incomes, commodities and energy.
Lecturers can filter out market noise during training sessions, focus in on certain products and simulate specific market conditions.
This type of hands-on learning allows students to understand the risks associated with trading and how to respond to different market conditions. The trading floor simulations are being used across a wide range of programmes at CULC to include, for example, teaching global business students about factors influencing international trade and investment, and oil and gas management students how prices are determined.
By emulating real trading under a tightly controlled environment in both open and closed training facilities, students are able to learn the techniques used by corporate financial institutions to determine efforts and profitability related to risk taking.

AccommodationAccommodation support serviceMaking the decision about where to live during your time at Coventry University London Campus is one of the most important you’ll make. To help you make your decision, our Student Services Team are here to assist you. There are many accommodation options in and around London. Depending on your preference and budget, we can help you find a suitable house or flat share, or a room within one of the popular halls of residence located close to our campus.
The cost of accommodation varies widely depending on the type and location. When looking for accommodation, it is important to consider how close you want to be to public transport links, the campus, as well as the extensive cultural and social scene that London has to offer including shops, museums, theatres, bars and restaurants.
We would advise you book well in advance to ensure you secure your preferred accommodation option. At CULC, we can offer you the following accommodation services:
Halls of residence
CULC has agreements with various companies which provide purpose built student accommodation with a range of room options to suit your budget. Studio rooms often include basic kitchen facilities, while en-suite rooms enable you to share the kitchen facilities with other students.
To help you budget your living expenses, all costs such as internet and utility bills (water, electricity, gas, council tax) are included in the price and facilities generally include a gym, launderette and common social areas.
The halls of residences are in locations close to the campus and also further out of the city to offer you a full set of options. Get in touch with the Student Services Team for more information and to take advantage of our guaranteed places.
Flat or house shareIf you prefer to rent a house or flat, our Student Services Team can connect you with approved agents, available properties and assist you through the process of securing a property. We can also put you in contact with other students who are looking to share accommodation.
This type of accommodation is often cheaper than halls of residence. However, it is important to bear in mind that in addition to your rent you will also have to pay for other costs including utility bills and internet charges.

Student LifeWe recognise that for many students living away from home is a new experience. CULC has a dedicated Student Services Team that offers ongoing advice to all international students throughout their study.
A fantastic social programme is run by CULC and this provides a cost effective way to join in a number of activities, see more of the UK and experience British culture.
There are various clubs and societies you can join or even start a new club or society if you wish. All clubs and societies are started and run by students alongside their studies, providing the opportunity to learn new skills, meet new people and get the most out of your time at CULC.
As a student at CULC, you will be located near to the home of Government and the centre of finance and trade; you will also be surrounded by the many theatres, museums and galleries that contribute to the rich heritage of the capital.
University of London Union
As a student at CULC you are eligible to join the University of London Union (ULU) free of charge. If you become a member of ULU, you will be able to use many of the Union’s facilities and services.
The membership entitles you to become a member of Energy Base, their on-site gym and health club, at a reduced rate. You can also enter the Union building after 6.30pm to use the bars and study facilities and you can even join the various ULU clubs and societies.
Once you’ve arrived at CULC you can apply to be a member quickly and easily.

Our innovative programmes have been developed specifically for students at our London campus. Using renowned industry experts, we have created intensive and bespoke courses that are focused on equipping students with the skills they need to launch successful international business careers.
Teaching methods
Modules are delivered through knowledgecast lectures and seminars of smaller groups of students. Seminars are interactive and may involve hypothetical problem questions, simulations, case studies and the analysis of more theoretical issues.
Audience Response Systems are used in class to quickly explore your level of understanding and identify any specific issues to focus on. In addition, your personal tutor will review and discuss your progress with you and will be available for advice.
We use audio visual materials in a range of ways to bring the curriculum to life, through recorded interviews with business leaders, recording key lectures and seminars for you to review and re-watch or in recording your own board presentations as part of your assessed work.

BA (Hons) Global Business Management As businesses increasingly find themselves competing in a global marketplace, employers are looking for graduates who have experience in a range of business areas, as well as experience of countries and cultures other than their own.
This 3 year degree provides students with the core knowledge and skills to operate successfully in the contemporary global business environment, making them highly attractive to employers globally.
Core modules provide a solid grounding in the key business areas of finance and data analysis, marketing, organisational behaviour and human resource management, within an international context.
Final year electives offer an opportunity to develop specialist knowledge in marketing or human resource management.
Intercultural awareness is also fostered and practised throughout the course in the delivery of the classroom-based modules as well as valuable study abroad, placement and workplace project experience.
Study abroad and placement opportunities
Study abroad and placement opportunities are available to all students studying this course.
International students are required to undertake work experience in their final term, but in addition to this have the opportunity to study one or two terms abroad.
UK/EU students are required to undertake either one or two terms of study abroad or a one term international (non-UK) placement.
Your future
Graduates can expect to offer prospective employers a business degree that delivers the knowledge and skills highly relevant to the global business environment, and also the added experience of having studied and lived in an international setting.

BA (Hons) Top-up ProgrammesTop-up programmes allow entry to the final year of a BA degree programme for students from outside the UK who have a sound background of study and knowledge.
Students undertake in-depth study of particular areas of business interest, helping to prepare them for a career in international business and management. Top-up programmes also provide the opportunity to improve communication, English language, interpersonal and life-long learning skills.
Upon successful completion of our BA (Hons) top-up programmes, students are eligible to proceed onto one of our leading MBA programmes.

This module aims to provide students with an understanding of the challenges of international business and of the strategic issues facing businesses.
International Business Strategy
The transition into learning at a new level poses all students with a differing level of challenge. The aim of this module is to ensure students have a clear understanding of the requirements of the final year of undergraduate study and provides them with a range of skills that will enable them to navigate their programme of study with the greatest chance of success.
Developing Business Practice
At CULC we are committed to ensuring students have a real business experience. A key element of this is the opportunity to gain work experience and have the chance to put theory into practice. This can be in any area of business (including sales and marketing, finance and human resource management), usually in the UK but occasionally overseas. Students may choose the area of work. Audit and Internal Control
This module provides students with an understanding of the international dimension of finance and how this impacts business. By the end of this module students should appreciate the workings and operation of currency derivatives markets, the international money and capital markets and the principles of currency risk management.

Valuation of Securities and Equity Trading
Provides essential knowledge and skills for a potential futures trader; it applies general valuation methods to specific financial instruments: equity and fixed income securities. By the end of the module, students will be able to use the dividend discount model, earnings multiple and PE ratio analysis to value equities, calculate prices and yields for fixed interest securities, interpret credit ratings and describe how credit risk is affected by market conditions.
Advanced Valuation of Securities and Bond Trading
The recent banking crisis has motivated heightened discussion of the merits of bank regulations used to minimise the risk of bank distress and intervention tools to mitigate its effects. In this module, students will study technical aspects of bank regulation, supervision and intervention to resolve crises.

This module introduces students to the study of consumer behaviour. The various determinants of behaviour are examined and the applications of theory are considered and critiqued. The primary aim is to provide students with an understanding of consumer behaviour and how this knowledge can be used to inform commercial decisions.

This module provides the opportunity to explore the concepts of branding and develop an understanding of the branding process and its application within a contemporary fashion context. Provides students with an opportunity to “learn by doing” via the use of trading simulations to reduce the gap between the complicated theories and practical knowledge. By the end of the module students should be able to trade financial derivatives such as stock options, stock index futures, foreign exchange futures and interest rate swaps.

This module explores the scale, scope and structure of the international events industry and its connection to existing structures in the tourism and hospitality industries. The module also develops an appreciation of Destination Management and its complexities.

Contemporary and innovative approaches to marketing fashion products are extremely important in an increasingly competitive and challenging global marketing environment. This module provides a critical understanding of the international market structures and strategies that affect and impact on global fashion marketing and the technologies employed to instigate and successfully deliver an effective marketing campaign.
International Fashion Marketing
The unprecedented pace of change, which organisations have experienced over the last three decades, has transformed organisational structures, business processes, roles and responsibilities, distribution channels, and the use of IT. In most cases, this transformation has been achieved by treating the desired change as a project. Projects typically account for 50% of all work carried out across organisations. This module critically evaluates the growing importance of project management in today’s business environment.

This module provides students with a foundation in the theoretical and practical aspects of retail marketing and describes the importance, organisation and composition of the contemporary retail sector. It also provides them with an understanding of the elements of the retail marketing mix and considers the influence of the socio-economic environment and the field.

As an alternative to completing an internship or consulting project, the dissertation forms a substantial part of the overall study leading to the MSc and is an opportunity for work experience related to the in-depth study of an organisation. The dissertation should draw on the intellectual and analytical skills and knowledge developed during the programme. The module also provides an opportunity for students to develop their interest in a particular area related to their career aspirations and to demonstrate an ability to undertake individual research.

Pre-Sessional English TrainingProgrammes require students to have achieved an IELTS score of 6.0 for BA (Hons) degrees and 6.5 for all BA (Hons) top-up and postgraduate programmes.
It is important in subjects like management, business, marketing, finance or human resource management that students are able to express their ideas clearly and communicate with other students. Furthermore, companies will be reluctant to offer internships to students whose command of spoken or written English is weak.
CULC offers a pre-sessional English course for those students with an existing IELTS level of 5.5 or 6.0 to ensure they meet the required level for progression onto academic study.
The pre-sessional course will help students to:
• Develop their academic English so that they are better prepared to cope with university-level study
• Develop their study skills and understand what is expected of them as a student in the UK higher education system
Students may need to undertake the course if their offer to study at CULC is conditional upon their achievement of the required IELTS entry requirement. Upon successfully completing the pre-sessional course, students will meet CULC’s English language requirements.
Alternatively, many students who already have the required IELTS score may want to develop their language skills further and be better prepared for the demands of undergraduate or postgraduate level study.

At CULC we are committed to providing you with a real business experience from the outset and this begins with your formal 3 day orientation (usually Wednesday, Thursday and Friday). In the same way that an employer provides you with an induction before you begin your new job, our CULC Induction makes sure that you have:
• Received and completed all the necessary paperwork to register as a student of CULC
• Access to all the required resources to support your programme of study, including textbooks
• An opportunity to meet your fellow students and key administrative and academic staff
• Understood the aims of your programme of study and have a clear understanding of the expectations of you as a CULC student
• Begun your first module (Advanced Business Practice for postgraduate students or Developing Business Practice for undergraduate students) which starts with an evaluation of yourself as a learner in order to identify your strengths and weaknesses and create your own development plan
