Course Description and Overall Goal
Project management is a carefully planned and organized effort to accomplish a specific (and usually) one-time objective, for
example, construct a building or implement a major new computer system. Project management includes developing aproject plan, which includes defining and confirming the project goals and objectives, identifying tasks and how goals will beachieved, quantifying the resources needed, and determining budgets and timelines for completion. It also includesmanaging the implementation of the project plan, along with operating regular 'controls' to ensure that there is accurate andobjective information on 'performance' relative to the plan, and the mechanisms to implement recovery actions wherenecessary. Projects usually follow major phases or stages (with various titles for these), including feasibility, definition, project planning, implementation, evaluation and support/maintenance.
This Course has developed in order to plan, co-ordinate and control the complex and diverse activities of modern industrial andcommercial projects. All projects share one common characteristic - the projection of ideas and activities into new endeavors.
Projects bring together resources, skills, technology and ideas to achieve business objectives and deliver business benefits.Good project management helps to ensure that risks are identified and managed appropriately, and objectives and benefitsare achieved within budget, within time and to the required quality.
