ATTENDANCE Attendance to class each day is extremely

important. You are required to be in class and prepared to work when the tardy bell rings (in your assigned seat – NOT standing/NOT walking through the door). If you are absent, it is your responsibility to see me immediately to get missed work.

GRADING SYSTEMS There will be a minimum of eleven daily

grades and a minimum of three major grades per nine weeks. Make up work and late work will be allowed per the conditions in the FBISD 2014-2015 student handbook. If you are absent or enter late and are unable to complete an assignment, see me immediately to discuss arrangements.

ACADEMIC DISHONESTY Academic dishonesty simply refers to

cheating. Cheating is unacceptable and will not be tolerated. Such decisions about work are determined by me. Complete your own work to the best of your ability. Seek assistance when needed, but do not compromise your grade or the grades of others by being dishonest. Students found engaged in academic dishonesty will receive a grade of zero on that assignment and referral for disciplinary action.

TEACHER EXPECTATIONS

Constructive learning cannot take place in confusion and chaos. It is my goal that each student will be successful this year. With that in mind, students will adhere to classroom rules and policies as set forth in the 2014-2015 FBISD Student Handbook. Our classroom rules are: Be Prompt, Be Prepared, Be Polite. I have set forth classroom expectations for students generally stated in CHAMPS for all classroom activities. Additionally, I specifically request students to adhere to the following:

Page 13: COURSE OVERVIEW ENGLISH I ADVANCE. WELCOME! C ONTACT I NFO English I Advance Dr. Walden lavada.walden@fortbendisd.com Room 206 Conference: 7:45-8:20

CHAMPS C: Conversation Refrain from talking while the teacher is giving

whole class instruction. If you need to ask a question, stand and wait to be recognized.

When working in partner/group activities, use quiet voice.

Refrain from talking during announcements/news. No talking, movement during warm-ups. H: Help Raise your hand to ask a question if the teacher is

not giving whole class instruction. Use quiet voice when asking for assistance from

classmates. Read the boards.

Page 14: COURSE OVERVIEW ENGLISH I ADVANCE. WELCOME! C ONTACT I NFO English I Advance Dr. Walden lavada.walden@fortbendisd.com Room 206 Conference: 7:45-8:20

A: Activity There is a CHAMPS poster for all

activities in the classroom: warm-up activity, teacher-directed instruction, group/partner activity, written test activity, peer tutoring activity and independent activity. CHAMPS will be given before we begin every activity. Students will receive consequences if they choose not to follow the CHAMPS.

M: Movement Enter the classroom in an orderly manner

and be in assigned seat ready to work when the bell rings.

Everyone must stand for the pledges. This is state law and FBISD policy.

Do not throw anything in the classroom. This is a safety concern.

The bell does not dismiss you. The teacher will dismiss you. Students must be in assigned seat and quiet to be dismissed.

P: Participation Bring supplies to class daily. Work to your highest ability. Complete all assignments in blue or black in

unless specifically told otherwise by the teacher. Put the MLA heading (MLA Handbook, Seventh Edition) in the upper left corner of your papers and give each assignment a title centered on the first line of the paper. Failure to do so will result in points deducted for each infraction.

All process essays will be written in MLA format, then condensed to STAAR format. Failure to do so will result in essay not being reviewed or graded.
