The Courier Veteran’s Day November 11th The Gooding County Museum is celebrating Veteran’s Day on Tuesday, November 11, at 6:30 p.m. with the help of the local Gooding American Legion Post 0030 and the VFW. Tami Huber and Kallie Shadwick, who attended the American Legion Auxiliary Girls State program in June, will present a short program about their experience. Tami Huber is a senior this year at Gooding High School and plans on attend- ing college next year. She is a firm believer in the Bible and an excellent student. Along with volunteer expe- rience and tutoring younger students, Tami has been in the Family Career Com- munity Leaders of America, Reading club, and band & choir. Her goal is to work in the education field and Girls State gave her new perspec- tives about government. Kallie Shadwick has been student council president and secretary, as well as 4H secretary and part of Fu- ture Family Career Leaders of America. She has also worked as an intern for the Wendell Boys Take State Soccer The Trojan Boys Soccer team took the State Cham- pionship on October 25th. Their first game of the tournament was 5 to 0 win over Bonners Ferry, followed by a hair-puller against Weiser. That game ended in a 6 to 5 victory for the Trojans (4-3 penalty kicks). Wendell scored first in the championship game when Bryant Alvarado scored against Sugar-Salem early in the first half. The rest of the game was close right to the last minute, when a cou- ple of penalty kicks gave the Trojans a 3 to 1 victory, Girls Soccer The Bliss girls lost their first game of the tourna- ment against Timberlake (took 2nd place), but went on to defeat Marsh Valley in over-time (2-1). This put them in the consolation game against Community School where they ended their season with a 3-0 loss. Volleyball After a near perfect sea- son, the Lighthouse Chris- tian girls took the 2014 1AD2 Volleyball Cham- pionship, but only after battling the Dietrich Blue Devils, not just once, but twice in the tournament. A loss to Mackay put LH in the third place game. Mackay then lost against Dietrich sending Mackay to the third place game as well. LH beat Mackay the second time around an went on to defeat Dietrich in the championship game forcing them both into the Runner-up game which LH again won. Football The 3A Football Tourna- ment started this past week- end and will continue this week. On Friday the Good- ing Senators gave Parma a through trashing with a 64 to 13 win. This Thursday, November 6th, the Sena- tors will face-off against Shelley High School at the Holt Arena in Pocatello at 8:15 p.m. and their second championship in the last five years. The winning score was by Jorge Valera and Diego Coronado sealed the game with a second penalty kick. For many, however, the real hero of the game was goalkeeper Durk Deelstra who did an outstanding job of keeping Sugar-Sa- lem from scoring. Local Election Results on page 2...
