Springhill, the Glenquarry estate, has been sold for around $3.1 million. Set down a winding driveway, the pavilion-style Howard Tanner-designed home has five bedrooms, three bathrooms, four sitting rooms and a north-facing terrace complete with fireplace. There are just the four homes on Yeos Lane. It was listed for $3.75 million through Drew Lindsay Real Estate last year. On the two hectare parcel is a 120,000 litre underground rainwater tank and a large dam.
Burradoo trophy Catalina has been listed for sale. The sprawling homestead sits on a 7,420 square metre private garden estate and has seven bedrooms and seven bathrooms. It has been extensively renovated since it last traded for $2.75 million in 2013. Built in the early 1990s, the Patchway Place home was built in a U-shape, with living spaces opening to the central courtyard. On the ground level is a library with mid-19th century Cuban mahogany panels imported from England. Off the west gallery is a billiards room and home office, with an indoor heated swimming pool located at the end of the corridor. Highfield Asset Management director Matthew Gregory and wife Tanya have sold their Mittagong estate, Midwood, which became redundant after they spent $6.5 million nearby. Complete with a Richard Rowe-designed farmhouse, the property fetched $4.8 million through Angus Campbell-Jones at Campbell Jones Property Bowral. Entry to the farm is through an avenue of Chinese Elms over the Chain of Ponds Creek. The five bedroom home, which last traded for close to $3.75 million in 2015 when it was known as Derrynane, sits in a private English country garden overlooking a dam and all weather tennis court.
Tech billionaire Mike Cannon-Brookes has emerged as the buyer of Widgee Waa, part of the prestige hobby farm belonging to finance veteran Mark Burrows. The retired merchant banker turned green finance advocate sliced off 150 hectares of his long-held Sugarloaf Farm property at East Kangaloon which he has bought up over the past three decades. Cannon-Brookes swooped with an unconfirmed $14.5 million offer, having been a guest at the property prior to the recent listing. The property has cattle farming infrastructure, a manager’s cottage plus stable facilities for a significant brood mare and thoroughbred horse operation. It was listed by Christies International agent Ken Jacobs in conjunction with Meares & Co agent Chris Meares. Cannon-Brookes already owns farms in Kangaloon. He spent $5.3 million last year on Rosehill Farm. He also owns farming land at Joadja.
Double Bay children’s clothing doyenne Terry Berry has listed Ashdown, her Burradoo retreat. The property on 4,000 square metres with four bedrooms and a home office is being marketed with $3.25 million hopes through Di Jones. Berry intends to spend more time in France where she has a chateau, Les Minardieres, in the Loire Valley. She bought the 250 year old country home, 90 minutes from Paris, in 2013 after it had been left untouched for 50 years. It is now a holiday rental. Berry and her sister Kayelene Hansen run Adrienne & The Misses Bonney.
Eleuthera, the Exeter farm with a 4000 tree olive grove, has sold quietly for $6.35 million. It’s been bought by former rugby league player turned surgeon Bill Roney and wife Sara, who live in Point Piper. The property last changed hands in late 2015 when the Mason family spent $4.25 million on the 48 hectare property. Eleuthera comes
with a 2004 built homestead inspired by the modernist architectural forms of Frank Lloyd Wright. The Ellsmore Road residence of stone, glass and masonry has five bedrooms and three bathrooms. There are two kitchens – the internal chef’s kitchen with an AGA plus the courtyard outdoor kitchen. The grounds also come with a manager’s cottage and barn style guest accommodation along with a heated pool, tennis court and stables. Sandie Dunn of Drew Lindsay Real Estate secured the off market sale.
Hazel Cottage Farm, the 56 hectare farm in Avoca, has sold. Raine & Horne Southern Highlands agents Frank Barker and Damien Ogilvy were asking $4.95 million for the farm, which includes the adjoining 40 hectare Colin’s Run. The pair sold separately, with Hazel Cottage Farm initially being priced at $3.3 million. Colin’s Run sold for $1.94 million. Hazel Cottage Farm is a classic four bedroom country homestead, built in the early 1910s, and was fully restored in 2012. It features regency panelling, a log fireplace and movie room with theatre projector. The farm has a dairy operation, with a 64 stand herringbone dairy milking 200 Holstein & Jersey cows with a secure milk contract with Dairy Farmers direct. The dairy complex also includes an office, staff room and kitchen.
