The Federal election campaign is in full

    announced Country Labor candidate

    for Hume, Michael Pilbrow. Another

    round of country pre-selections have

    been opened by the Administrative

    Committee this month.

    or 1800 503 035.

    The ortrn alland -

    lction campaign is also well

    underway. The by-election will be

on Saturday 25 May 2013. Country

    Labor announced its candidate

    Herman Beyersdorf on Monday

    22 April 2013 and within a week

    had opened his campaign ofce

    in Armidale. The Nationals have

preselected Adam Marshall, theformer Mayor of Gunnedah. The

current Mayor of Armidale Jim Maher

has also indicated he will contest the

    by-election as an independent.

    Herman Beyersdorf has lived locally

in Armidale with his wife Corrie for the

last 35 years, where they have raised

their family and worked in the local

community. Herman has been a local

Councillor for the last 21 years, and is

    now Armidales Deputy Mayor.

As a local Councillor, Herman has

    stood up for locals, campaigned

for more industrial land to attract

    regional development; and supported

the Evocities program to bring city

dwellers to relocate in regional cities

    and areas.

    Herman and Country Labor are

    campaigning strongly against the

Nationals $3 billion cut to hospitals

    and community health services,

local public service job cuts and the

Nationals cuts to the Department of

    Primary Industries.

A fundraiser will be held on

Wednesday 8 May at 6pm at NSW

    Parliament House. Tickets cost

    NSW Shadow Special Minister

    of State, Walt Secord said.

    In Opposition, Barry OFarrell promised

high standards, but as soon as he got

into government he gave the Land and

Water Commissioner to a dyed in the

    wool National Party operative.

If the Premier is true to his word, he will

    immediately remove Laurie and replace

him with a new and independent person.

    The Land and Water Commissioner

    oversees decisions involving water,

mining and coal seam gas and mustprovide independent advice without

allowing the government to pull the

    strings behind the scenes.

I asked Walt to come up here and help

us because our State MP, Geoff Provest

is failing to represent our concerns

about Coal Seam Gas Mining to theNSW Government,Justine Elliot said.

Walt Secord raised concerns about how Coal Seam Gas

Mining on the North Coast could potentially impact the

Tweed River and local water supplies.

The far North Coast of NSW boasts a unique quality of life

and one of the biggest environmental concerns about Coal

Seam Gas Mining is the impact on water resources and

rivers. The only way to protect the water supplies of the North

Coast is for a moratorium on CSG mining, Walt Secord said. The communitys view on the North Coast is clear; they dont

want Coal Seam Gas Mining. The only people supporting the

CSG industry on the North Coast are the National Party.

    Shadow Minister for Local

    Government Sophie Cotsis

    said that the proposal

contained in the Farrell-commissioned Local Government

    Review Panel report would

be the nal straw for many

    pensioners already reeling

    from State-approved increases

    in electricity bills, gas bills

    and public housing rents.

    I cannot believe

    Barry OFarrell

has even placedthis radical proposalon the table,

    Sophie Cotsis said.

    Abolishing the $250 council rate

concession is an absurd idea when

    you consider how tough many

    pensioners are doing it tough

with the rising cost of food, water,

    electricity and medicines.

For more than 20 years, NSW

    Governments of all political

    persuasions have accepted that

    pensioners whove paid into the

tax system all their lives have

earned the right to modest relief

    from soaring council rates.

    The Shadow Minister for

Regional and Rural Affairs,Mick Veitch says that country

    NSW is worse off under

    Andrew Stoner and the

    Nationals in Government.

It has been two years and

    regional NSW has been

    ravaged by cuts to public

    sector and services in NSW,

    Mick Veitch said.

On the tough issues, Stoner andhis Nationals Party collapse like

a pack of cards in the party room

    when the Sydney Liberals decide

    to cut services and funding

    in the bush.

Stoner may talk up the jobs

growth in regional NSW but the

    reality has seen only 12,000

jobs created in 2 years, down

    from the 68,000 created under

    the former Labor Government.

    No wonder unemployment has

blown out from 5.4 to 5.8%.

Stoner even tried to get a $1000

a week pay rise for his servicesas Acting-Premier, even though

it is something he already gets

paid to do as Deputy Premier.
